Finally pressed 225 yesterday. I feel incredible.
And how long did it take you?
Absolutely love your energy and enthusiasm. I always end up smiling after watching your videos
😊 thank you
I appreciate the simple but sage advice on this channel. Always the fundamentals, thank you!
Thanks for doing this video. 😎And make sure you are paying your kittie more than minimum. He’s a star!
He shows up when he wants and works when he wants
I love that cat.
I've been doing SS Novice for about 2 months now and definitely noticed this! I've always found bench press the hardest as I'm somewhat lanky, but now with my squat and deadlift going up constantly it makes the weaker bench even more noticeable. This was the exact video I was looking for, thank you!
One question: would you recommend incorporating the extra bench/press day before getting to a "reset"? Or only after hitting a reset? I'm still adding 5lbs per session to my bench, but can definitely feel it getting tougher on the last 3x5 set, and I think it's going to plateau soon. Or would doing the micro plates first make more sense if I hit a reset on my bench press? Currently 195# BW, squat 205#, deadlift 270#, bench 160#. Thank you!
Barbell Medicine wrote a novice pressing plugin years ago, check that out
The microplates are a scam man.
The .75lb plate may be helpful for the shoulder press, since that's usually the lift that increases the slowest, and for the older population to keep increasing the weight. I'm thinking 55% yes to 45% no. The 1.25 plates you have are good enough, in my opinion. However, I'm 31 whereas someone older could use them.
I love these cute cat videos. What’s with the guy babbling away who’s blocking the cat?
seriously get him off the screen!
Love this. The Weight I'm moving is more but I sure do miss my arm days and coming out of the gym with a massive upper body pump
Love the cat. Stole the show!! Hip drive is what got that cats tail so fluffy
This just popped up on my feed. I think it’s a sign.
👍for the .75 lb plates
Just to clarify, if I came in on Saturday to do a 5x5, am I just doing the one upper body lift that occurred that past Wednesday? Or, am I doing the whole thing? The latter just seems like overkill since I did a 3x5 the previous day (Friday). I could definitely use more Bench work & Press work, I wouldn’t mind doing those more to get additional practice in.
Thanks for your videos, Grant!
just the Wednesday lift
I like the idea of doing this, but would it not interfere with recovery?
If they're adding a 4th day, they may as well move onto an upper lower split or something like that.
They for sure could. Trying to change as few variables as possible on newer lifters if everything else is still moving. Also trying to give very actionable advice that lifters can try
Hey i am uneven bench press
Cool tip! Btw, what's the starting strength record on bench press?
What is the biggest bench press by an SSC?
Yes..by a starting strength coach
The cat in the background. 😂
How about adding a paused bench day?
0:58 form deadlift VERSUS 1:07 and 1:16 form deadlift....
I have a 190-lbs Press and a 255-lbs Bench Press. I also Press 4x a week because I want to specialize in that. Not sure how to work in bench in with that schedule. Thoughts?
32-years old. 275-lbs BW. 6-foot height.
If I was training you I’d have you focus on BW loss
@@thestrengthco For aesthetics or health? True I'm fat, but I don't mind that much. I still want to get my bench up.
@@diegocastillo5400 for health.
Those Squat Forms are Terrible. Its a Good Morning Squat which is extremely dangerous to the lower back.
Arms too big. Voided the t-shirt warranty!
My experience has shown the opposite. I went to benching once every 2 weeks and my weights started going up. Just doing a lift more frequently does not equal more gains. In fact if your bench or any lift stalls; its most likely due to not fully recovering between workouts.
