  • Before we get to the railway part of this Archive video taken at Thirsk races which although has no trains it was taken for Trans Pennine for one of the little films in each town the trains stopped in. So if horse racing is not your thing the fun begins at 10:05 and on a small now closed railway shortly before it was sold off The locomotive was saved by a preservation group who may of bought the track and wagons as well. The line was at a sewage works on the outskirts of Bradford in Oakenshaw, the sewage was mixed with lime if I remember right and dumped into trailers to be taken away for fertiliser. These days farms are not allowed to use it so I do not know what is done with the solid waste now.

I could not remember the gauge but have managed to find a photo. It says 2 foot gauge. The loco was built in 1974 and has 39hp and now lives in Wales on Ffestiniog Railway named Harold which also answers the comment by jjcord I was curious about. All our horse races are on grass. It is a huge sport here a big course at York is having a 4 day festival now.
