Totally agree with the discipline and simplicity message
It's so nice that you're not just pushing the equipment you have and telling us you don't need to have an air runner or treadmill etc, just giving us the key information we need. Thanks Cole and every time I see your videos I'm reminded why you won spirit of the games.
Adam, thank you so much for the kind and encouraging words, man! That means a lot! I appreciate you watching my videos man!
Step 1: get rogue to give you everything for free
Ha!! That is like Step 4 or 5 my man!
But a Rogue sponsorship definitely helps and is nice. Hence why I didn't focus on all the nitty gritty of what that kind of blessed scenario can offer. I focused on big picture things that everyone can dial in if they are just willing to put a little effort into it.
Do you have a garage gym space? or looking to have one in the future?
Cole Sager haha word man I was only kidding. You didn’t get what you got from sitting around.
Yes I have a garage just figuring out what to buy for my gym. I have about $5000 available to spend.
I’m just waiting to see if Rogue ever has a sale though 😩
@@watchman9198 They pretty much only do it on black friday
Tyler Kerr The entire week of Black Friday they have sales.
That’s it! Lol
I love the quote on the wall!
I love your outlook on simplicity
Thanks Cole. Some great advice. I love keeping it simple. Some people get carried away and put way too much gear in a small garage.
BEST garage gym video ive seen. Out of 100. Your gym is perfect. Thank you for the great advice and good luck in your future tournaments!
Just found your channel. It's already becoming one of my favorites. Great content. I'm rooting for you in the 2021 games.
Thanks for the tips Cole!
Currently putting together my home gym. This was well timed!
Awesome!!! Tag me in some pics of how it’s coming along! Would love to see!
Great looking garage Cole, thanks for the tips, very helpful. Good luck this year, will be rooting for you.
Thank you so much!!
I miss the weekly video's from you. you have the best Garage gym! Love from SA.
So stoked to watch you this year. You're one of my favorite athletes 💪💪
Thank you Chris! I really appreciate that. 💪💪
Dude that was an amazing video, inspired me to take my setup to the next level !!
MAN, YOU'RE NOT LYING! When I got the heater installed in my garage-- GAME CHANGER! Love this video.
It has made SUCH a big difference! I used to dread the garage in the winter! lol
Can you please list what heater you went with? Winters right around the corner and I usually sign up at a local box because my garage gets too cold.
You made such a good point. Home gym without motivation = zero result.
this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Mr Sager
You bet!! Good luck with your gym!! 👊🏼
This is one of the minimilistic gym setup with maximum space utilization i ever seen uptill now.
Theme of gym look quite great and the way you have organised the equipment and accesories is totally remarkable . i fall in love with your gym ..
Such great tips Cole! We just moved to VA Beach as a military couple and we are literally making a list to re-build our gym since we had to get rid of so much before due to weight restrictions. My hubs and I chuckled cause literally all we have now is a jump rope and a dumbbell and we just finished up running outside. We also laughed about the reverbs through the house so we are looking into that concern now. Great videos and so easy to just click on and watch all the way through. Your passion will take you a very long way as it already has!
Haha too funny! Good luck with your new gym!
I cam relate to ur friend. I'm only 15 so I dont have a lot of money to spend on equipment. I started off doing body weight exercises in my room, started to see results and instantly got hooked. My first real equipment was a wood pull up bar I made with my uncle. Next was a medicine ball for core exercises. And finally my moms friend gave us some plates I've been using, without a bar, just wrapping my fingers through the center hole and doing squats/deadlifts, and putting them on my back and doing pushups. I've seen such awesome results and I cant wait to add more equipment to my setup. Thanks for the tips, they're really going to help out!
Thanks Cole!
Gets me thinking about other spaces where I want to achieve greatness - what will make me turn up and put in the time and energy. Great food for thought!
Wishing you both a fantastic week!
I love that you have a deeper sight of achieving greatness in other areas also! So awesome, man! Hope you are also having a great week!
Cole Sager Thank you!
Eating that chicken quarantini right now...great gym. I don't have a garage...condo living....but I love to workout and just wanted to watch you talk lol! Thank you for the great ideas. Makes me want to move into a house...just for the garage.
I have an R3 bolt together rack. So I split it in half and used the crossbars to bolt the uprights to the wall. And connected them with pull up bars. Now I have a wall rig that’s three times the width. So it’s basically like three racks next to each other. So much cooler than a power rack. Just add spotter arms for less than 200 to retain the functionality of the rack.
Great informative video! Keep the great work! You are an inspiration!!
Thank you Bryan!!
This was an amazing video. Thank you for putting it together and ironically how handy it has become now that we are dealing with the Rona Pandemic. Literally just bought a few things i seen off this video. Thanks
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Awesome garage gym. I went out and bought horse stall mats for my garage based on your recommendation. They work great and didn't break the bank. Great videos Cole.
Awesome! Great to hear!
Nice, where did you get them from?
Such good advice! Be reasonable, be patient. I appreciate it.
Great message and advice. Good luck in your CrossFit adventures . I’ll be looking for you
inspiration, aspiration, perspiration.
Awesome brother.
My garagemahal has transformed a whole lot in the last 5 years!! Its always evolving. Love the info Cole! ThNk u!🤘🏽👊🏽
jason deomes what have been the best / most used pieces of equipment in your gym outside barbell weights?
@@michaelmabe8944 I would say the rower for sure, followed by the bike and ski erg.
jason deomes awesome! Thanks, man.
@@michaelmabe8944 your welcome👍🏼
@@michaelmabe8944 Agree with Jason! The Assault Bike by far for me, then rower.
Ha....my garage gym started with a jump rope, kettlebell and punching bag. I am pretty much set on everything now. It helps having an awesome wife that supports and partakes. ✌
Man, your positive attitude is infectious. 💯 on optimization of floor space.
Bro you can do BFB in the driveway. Squat cage all day baby! Love your set up man thanks for sharing it with us.
Hi Cole! No idea if you’d ever gonna read this, but … Just came here after hearing the Chasing Excellence Podcast with you. In that context it makes perfectly sense that the newest vids here are about a year old. You are a great inspiration for so much more than fitness. Thanks and best wishes to you and your family :-)
Oh my goodness I would love to have a setup like this in my garage. 😍 Would be so handy on the days I have all 3 kids at home on the holidays etc because it can be a real juggle getting them down to the box or having them watched. Love your channel Cole. You and Genasee should come and visit us in Australia soon. 😊 🇦🇺
We've been wanting to visit Australia!
Dude is the most wholesome athlete I've ever seen.
My garage gym is small, but mighty...like 1 stall garage size that also has man cave things in it. A dingy for our sailboat hangs from the ceiling, a workbench in the back, and a metal rack/shelf with power tools. I've saved and spent my money as wisely as possible. Small Rouge squat rack, rower, my boyfriend made me a wall mount for plates/bands, and I'm slowly adding more pieces when I can afford it. Thinking about getting a bike soon-but it'll need to go in the house, pull-up bar is in a doorway in the house, and I have a plyo box + a few KB's and DB's. 6 months in and I'm already down almost 20inches total. I also have a small heater; living in Green Bay Wisconsin means it's already cold out....so hoodies, wool socks, and keeping my bar in the house so it's not ice cold. Where there is a will, there is a way!
I save for one piece at a time. Walmart, Facebook market, craigslist. My whole master bedroom has been converted to a gym. It's amazing. Only took 6years to get everything😂
great presenter and great presentation. Good job!
Cole is definitely gonna podium this year!
against fraser vllner and fikowski? Heppner will be back too... I think a good finish for him would be 4-5th place! He can’t beat fikowski vllner and fraser :/
Sébastien Drouin I dont think Fikowski will do better than 4th this year. He has not been very impressive since China (where the competition was mostly Regionals level except two or three guys), GG he struggled a lot, Competition is fierce. I would see Heppner 5th, Fikowski 4th, Cole 3rd.
Great video Cole!
Thanks James!!
Very helpful.
Hey cole! Catching up on your videos right now but I have to say this. I listened to your podcast with Brute strength and i have gone from happiness, to being in awe to maybe letting go of a little tear here and there. Your life is remarquable and the amount of experience you are sharing on that podcast but also (in a way) in your videos is life changing - Especially the relationship with Genasee. I have had a food disorder as well, not sure if i would call it like that too, I was eating fruits, meats, rice and that would be all just to be lean. It still is a lesson to be learned but after listening to you speak, I really want to take that leap and try Wag or any other nutritional service (it's a lifestyle after all). The other thing is your open performance and how you learned that it was you and just yourself who kept you from performing better and that 1% kept you from it. Really, i turned off the car once the episode was done and I was like " I need to reflect on myself, leave my ego at the door etc." Thanks for being you man, keep posting these videos and good luck at the games man!
Pat -- it is so great to hear from you. I was wondering when I was gonna see your name come through on the channel. Seem like it had been a little bit. Hope you are doing so well.
I just have to say that I am so incredibly grateful for your extremely kind and encouraging comment. Thank you for listening to the podcast I did with Brute and for being part of our channels community. Means a lot. I am glad that it is helping raise the level in which you want to live your life. I would love to see you give WAG a try. I think you would really enjoy it. Hope you get a chance to make it out to the Games this year or one in the future!! It is such an incredible place to be and so inspirational to be around, even for me! lol Keep working hard, and making an impact!!
Cole! Wow! What a reply, thanks so much. I was just being honest :) I really like the community you're building and that the way you are on youtube/instagram is not "fake", especially on the Brute podcast- you opened up so easily.
I will give WAG a shot very soon, work has been quite hectic lately but dialling back into meal prepping better. I'll keep you posted on that in next videos of yours.
I wanted to make the Games this year but it will probably have to go to the next one ( I'm 200% sure the inspiration one gets from the Games is incredible, so I will make it happen, mark my word!) however I will be going around to sanctionals! Hopefully I get to meet you man.
You're the best man!
I am SO pumped to workout in my garage now!
Great video! 👍🏻
Thanks Ruby!
Keep up the good work and thank you for your videos. Reach out if you ever need to hit some WOD's in a garage gym in Walla Walla.
Love it! thanks Jesse, will do!
This would be great, if I could afford any of these things
Jeff Baller it’s taken me two years to build my garage gym and it’s because I SAVED money and sacrificed the things I didn’t/don’t need to succeed.
Thanks Cole, super helpful. May I ask where you got your plate tree? Thanks in adavnce.
Literally a small affiliate in your garage... Great work Cole!
I'm curious to learn more about the install for the space heater. I'm looking at getting one before it gets to cold here in Colorado. I was wondering how hard the install was? Did you have an electrician come wire it? It sounds like you have to install a new dedicated breaker and that may above my handy skills. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for correcting yourself... I'm an engineer and have a pet peeve when people use the term "cement" incorrectly. Great info, I appreciate you sharing
Bahaha! I know it! I tried editing it out, but it just made it worse. lol Thanks for showing me some grace! lol
You must be fun at parties.
Abraham Lincoln is my distance relative nice quote!
That is SO awesome! Such an amazing man of history!! 🙌🏼
Cole seems like a really cool and nice guy
Thank you Maxime. Means a lot. :)
Sweet set up Cole! Question for you: how do you program ring/ bar muscle ups with lower ceilings?
For ring muscle ups, we have enough space at our highest ceiling point (~10'6"). For bar muscle ups, Genasee has enough space, but it's pretty tight for me. I can technically do them in our garage, but it engrains bad form, so I don't. I will go to a local gym if bar muscle ups are programmed!
do you have any videos of you doing peg boards with the lower ceiling level and also does it limit you on other things?
Hey cole love the videos man your positivity is very contagious so I thank you, also could you give some input on your journal layout and how you go about doing your journal. Thanks a lot man
That guy looks so healthy he is freakin glowing. Whatever you are selling I am buying
Nice video but I can’t find the wall mounted rack on Rogue’s website. Is it Rogue equipment?
It's like you knew I'd be buying a new home and thinking about a garage gym
I got your back!!! hahaha Can't wait to see how you put it together!!!
Nice home gym! What kind of rack is that you are using for your barbells?
Can you tell me how you bolted the rack into the floor thru the stall mats? Did you use the regular bolting hardware that rogue sells or was it different to get thru the mat and foundation? Thanks.
Hey Cole, Nice job! Did you experience any off gassing from those horse mats?
There are quite a few things for a garage gym that you can build yourself with a little time and creativity if you are on a budget. I put together a pretty respectable gym in 5 days for about 700 bucks by buying used and building some stuff myself
That is really cool! I am always impressed with people's creativity and ingenuity. I bet your space is pretty sweet!
Oh boy, I was looking all around for where your bench was seeing you had pretty much everything else
7:28 tucked away there underneath what looks like your mains for the house? Lol
What's your toughts about Body Solid Fusion600 for bodybuilding Bulk? Can it work as good as dumbels and free weights? I can't train legs. Thank you for the great video!
Hey Cole - does the heater heat up the space well enough? Did you guys have to insulate as well or is it just cement exterior? Thanks!
Probably the best GG i've seen, you can Fit your car in
Mannnn new sub awesome
Hey Cole what do you think about training alone? Benefits? Ive been training alone for about a year and a half and am not sure if joining a box to get some training partners to help push would be a good idea. just curious on your thoughts! Thanks, God bless!!!
What kind of camera are you using ? Beautiful footage and great content as always!
Thanks! We're using the Sony a6500 amzn.to/2M5tvhq
Hey cole
I love your videos
Can you tell me where you bought your floor matt?
We got the mats from a local lumber supply store. Ask around. Usually farm supply stores have them as well. 👍🏼Also, Rogue Fitness has some on their website as well.
Really appreciate the video mate, quick question where do u get the mats from???
We purchased ours from a lumber supply company years ago. I think they're technically horse stall mats. But you can also find some options on the Rogue website.
Hey, Cole! My home gym will be on the third floor. What should I get so I can drop my barbell? Most is probably 135lbs overhead.
Nice tips you gave me some ideas thanks! So what do you do when you drive home on a rainy day? Do you drive in your gym with a wet car?
We do. It really does not make much of a mess if at all. Plus it's super quick to clean with a microfiber mop 👍🏽
Hey cole! Where did you get the storage rack?
I have the opposite issue here in Florida. I need a/c in my garage gym. Still trying to find the best option for that next to a fan.
Bahaha!!! We just got a big fan for the summer! Hahaha
Very nice. What a setup.
Do the mats smell a lot?
Thanks!
Not at all!
Question, Sir!
What do you do for gymnastics movements like ring or bar muscle ups? I’m looking into building my garage gym and and I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate those in!
Love it! Excited for you to have a garage gym! I hung wood rings from my ceiling, which is 10.5ft tall. I have juuust enough room. I have the Rogue ring hanger that spans across two rafters so there is extra support. Seems to be good. The more rafters the better, obviously. 🙌🏼 best of luck!!
Another dumb question- What do you use to clean your stall mats?
Great video Cole. Question for you, how did you manage 30” crossmembers for your rig? Looking to get a very similar set up, but I’ve only been able to find 24” or 43” crossmembers on the Rogue website.
Kory! -- great question. I would reach out to customer service. They are usually really helpful and what they do is use the 30" crossmembers from the the Squat Cages and sub them out. I have had several people contact them about this and it's worked. Give that a shot. I'll put in a word to them that they should just start offering it on their sight as well! ;)... make it easier for everyone! lol
@@ColeSager Awesome! Thanks Cole! Keep up the great work and best of luck at the games.
Where did you buy the flooring from? It’s not linked in the description box?! Please and thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
We purchased ours from a local lumber supply company years ago. I think they're technically horse stall mats. But you can also find some options on the Rogue website.
wow nice gym!
Thank you!! You ever think you will build out a garage gym?
@@ColeSager one day! :)
2:52 I dont know what your implying...
I’ve spent too much time thinking about this. Huh???
Hey Cole! Just out of curiosity.. Do your neighbors know how good you are? They complain about noise? And just one more thing.. sometimes do you feel like going to a box and just do a regular wod or at your level it would be a waste of time?
Sry for so many questions buy you guys are the best!
Augusto, how are you?!?
These are fun questions. Some of the neighbors have caught on or have asked enough questions that they now know what I do, especially the ones right next door. Other in the neighborhood might still wonder.. haha but some have even started following me and watching CrossFit... Pretty cool!!!
And I do get out of the garage and go throw down at a box sometimes. It is good to get into a different space and be around people. I am SUUUUPER social, so it can be refreshing for me. However, I typically just do my training there. Out of season though, I will take class. It is alwasy a blast working out with community!
In the winter how do you deal with all the crap you bring in on the tires? Salt, Sand Dirt plus what drips from the under carriage?
It's a constant battle haha. We do our best to clean the truck off as best we can before pulling it into the garage. But we also use a leafblower, broom, and then a microfiber mop + cleaning solution on the mats. And we typically do a deeper clean at least every spring with a carpet cleaner type vacuum.

Cole, at 2:48 in the background on the plate/dumbell rack on the wall, 3rd row fromt the top between the blue and black plates, there're two balls. What brand, weight etc are they? Thanks!
Those are Rogue Fitness MK D-balls, 80lbs and 150lbs 👍🏼
What tone that is it that started playing in 0:30?
I followed the link but they have 7 or 8 rigs to choose from... Which one is it that you have?
Can't wait to come throw down there brother!!
Looking forward to it, my man!!!
Where did you get your rig? I’ve been looking for one like yours for me of my husband, so that we each have our own space.
We got ours from Rogue Fitness! This is our rig: www.roguefitness.com/monster-lite-rig-2-0/?a_aid=5aa7135a1c268 ...but I worked with customer service to get 30" crossmembers to shorten the distance that the rig comes off the wall. Hope that helps!
Do you need ventilation system in your garage? I am planning to use my garage as GYM but not sure about the heating and cooling part..
It gets pretty cold here in the winter, so we installed a heater that also has a fan. So we use the heater in the winter and then will run the fan without the heat occasionally during the summer.
Do you have enough space for bar muscle ups and ring muscle ups in there? Suuuuch a nice garage gym
Hey, thanks Leonard! I can do Ring Muscle-ups in the garage. I put the rings where the garage door comes up, so I just have to make sure the door is closed. The ceiling height right there is 10.5ft. But I don't have a space I can do Bar MUs in yet.
where did you get the mats from? these tips are really good.
I got the mats from a local lumber yard. Ask around. Usually farm supply stores have them. 👍🏼
@@ColeSager thanks for the info...have been looking around and can only find the hard ones that have no give to them. will keep looking
Cole, where did you get the barbell holders?
These are the hooks that we have: amzn.to/2WI9TDQ
Thanks, Cole! This is really a question for anyone here. Money is really tight and saving up for big fancy equipment is tough (who would’ve thought a bunch of children would cost a ton of money????). As a result, I have literally built my own gym. I mean, literally. I got an old rusty rack and fixed it up, built a shelf to store weights and bar (only things I didn’t physically build / restore), built a plyo box, am adding a GHD function to it this weekend, and utilize different sized bags of concrete rapped in duct tape as sand bags. My wife and I have been saving up for additional equipment I cannot make myself. I will be able to afford my first real piece of equipment in a couple of months, but am stuck between buying a rower, assault bike, echo bike, dumbbells, or additional plates for my bar (my weight maxes out at 265, which covers everything I can lift to date, but gains have been crazy and 265 is becoming lighter by the week for certain lifts). Any suggestions on which one would help me take my fitness to the next level?
I really appreciate any input.
Love that you guys are saving up for stuff, man! Glad you are investing in your health and wellness, brother! I would say the best bang for your buck in the long term is going to be the Echo bike. Though the assault bike is nice, the Echo bike is going to hold up a lot longer. Its just built more sturdy. Between that or a rower is my first suggestion. Then get a small run of DB's. I would think 25's, 35's, 50's once you can. Then when you want to add to those you can fill in the gaps with other weights. Or a great solution is the loadable DB's that ROGUE sells. I personally wouldn't worry about adding more plates. A 265lbs bar is plenty of weight. You can CRUSH yourself with that kind of weight. Hope that helps, my man!
Cole Sager thanks! I made a list of the equipment you suggest. I hope your training is going well. After your performance at the Rogue Invitational, I’m really excited to see what you do at the Games!
Curios about your heater? Is it electric? Or gas? What manufacturer? Thank you! Beautiful space!
It is electric: www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200665094_200665094
Which barbell do you use?
I saw the lights plug directly into the light bulb socket. Where did you find those?
The lights are normal but we purchased light socket to plug adapters for just a few bucks.
