    Troy is such a great teacher. On this video he explains how and why he cuts up the mackerel. He also shows and explains the anatomy of the fish. Very informative. Very interesting. Viewers can enjoy the beautiful photography, the sailing, and we can learn something, too. Thank You!

    Fingertip tiller work - that's how I like it. I've loved tillers since I was a boy. I can steer with a wheel, but it's not the same. I love your fishing ethos too - take what you need and leave the rest. The planet can handle this :-) Keep your videos coming please - they remind me of what's important in life. :-)

    I grew up on the New England seacoast and started sailing Sunfish, Sailfish, daysailers and slowly worked my way up to a 30'-er similar to yours. I moved to landlocked Denver almost 26 years ago. I LOVE watching your videos, but they make me miss the ocean terribly. Thank you for your vids! I learn so much and remember even more. Cheers from Denver!

    So far have watched 14 of your videos and plan on binge watching some more this Sunday due to bad weather. Have been watching sailing videos for a few years (la vaga, catalpa more recently) I love the spearing and the crabbing. Adventure is my passion and spearing and camping is what I do as my outlet with a dream of sailing. For now I will live vicariously through your very well edited videos. Great Aussie couple who I cannot get enough of. There is something so endearing that draw views like me in. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure with us.

Fantastic places awesome scenery with practical tips from how to cook crabs, sharpen hooks, history, sailing where to find water . You have it all covered. Huy guys another great video. Next time your online check out a bit of kit called a " tacker" it goes around the rolled genoa and you clip the tack of your chute to it. You can the keep tack in the centre of the boat also let it up or down. You sail a lot further down wind if you let it up the rolled genoa. Check it very handy bit of kit I reckon you can make one out of seat belt webbing and a few snap shackles.
    Martyn

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  7 лет назад

      Do you think the webbing would slide up the jib? I wonder if dyneema threaded through some drilled broom stick sections would work as a roller?

    • @martynrandall8718
      @martynrandall8718 7 лет назад

      Yeah what you do is put a line on the track down through say the bow roller or similar. That way in light winds you pull it down tight and point up to the wind . Off the wind you let it up the genny and let the sail balloon out the front you can nearly sail down wind. Good fun trying anyway lol.

    Nope, no more croc info.... What a beautiful piece of story telling, visually and orally. Loved the detailed analysis of the Spanish Mack and brain location, I usually skewer my fishies but I am never really too sure about the location of the brain. Other fish might be similar and certainly with Flatties the brain location is behind the eyes about the same distance. Lovely Zen like ending with the gorgeous sunset coming into Nhulunbuy. Oh to dream......

    One cool couple on this boat. No bimbos on this boat. I plan to buy a sailing boat in the future and sail.

      Try your local sailing club- ask if they have weekly twilight racing. A very good informal way to get on a yacht and start learning.

      I'm a volunteer at Marine rescue at Jacobs well Queensland. Some of the guys will teach me how to sail.

    A big mackerel here would be 15 or 16 inches, good lobster bait!

    Really enjoy your adventures! Just asking if you could show how to make those chaff preventers on the standing rigging. Thanks

      The Baggywrinkle is attracting a few questions. We'll knock up a quick how- to. It seems to be a lost art.

    Hi Troy & Pascale, another great and informative Vid, when you get a chance could you explain your hose set up for washing the fish fillet area while under sail? Cheers Cal

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  7 лет назад

      Thanks Cal. We can show the hose but it's just a jabsco pump plumbed through the deck to a 3/4" fitting for a garden hose connector. The hose is about 5' long with a quick connect at the end.

      Thanks guys, so it is just connected to a thru hull to use sea water as a deck wash?

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  7 лет назад

      That's it. We have a longer hose with quick connectors we use to wash the whole deck, but the shorty is used most of the time to keep the cockpit clean and to shower with.

      We love the Mac. We'll be heading to Tassie if all goes according to plan so check our Facebook to keep tabs on us (vids are a few weeks behind) and we would be delighted to one day meet up over a few beers.
