Annalese Equestrian You have to be careful how you interpret this. It could be counterproductive
Daniel Thomas well, it’s obvious that she means the horse needs to learn how to be ridden responsively, and if you are using UNNECESSARY leg on a lazy horse, it will only make it more unresponsive. And if a horse is too responsive (or hot) and you avoid using leg because of this, then you will end up with a horse that is not excepting leg and is all over the place.
Annalese Equestrian There’s more to it. More leg translates to constriction of the natural inclination to move forward.
So more leg works the same way on hot and cold horses. More leg means constricting the inclination to move forward. Opening the seat give permission to move forwards, it depends on what you want to do.
These kinds of aphorisms are misleading and are for people with lazy minds.
Daniel Thomas Yes, I agree and there’s so much more to riding than any of what I just said, I can communicate with my horse by just thinking about it because we have worked together so long that my body language communicates it before I even have to ask with an aid, however I still need my aids for a lot of things and not all horses can pick up on my body language since they don’t know me yet. So I need an even balance of leg pressure and response so that I can use leg pressure as a communication device rather then force. leg should not be used as “forcing” the horse to do something because it’s uncomfortable, it should be used for quiet healthy communication, if you can communicate without leg then thats good. But leg should not be forcing The horse to move forward, leg is what tells them what you want next, you give leg and then open your seat so they can move freely underneath you.

You see far too much leg activity going on in GP, not pretty, particularly but certainly not exclusively in the flying changes where the seat bones initiating a very subtle shift of weight should be more than sufficient....Yes ideally leg aids should be barely perceptible on any horse hot or otherwise correct. I don't think very sensitive horses need more leg they just need to accept the leg rather. Here the leg is what is called a waiting aid which only comes into play naturally in our movement on the horse in our desire to get the movement accomplished. So we might shift the leg very slightly, very slightly backwards for example with barley if any contact, the horse would feel it nonetheless as our contact with the calf would be already there waiting just as it is with our hands. Far as I'm concerned phlegmatic horses are not suitable for dressage, in stallion selection for stud books they're also not approved of course. A plain lazy horse without phlegmatic attitude can often be solved with more energy feed. In training horses the leg is important in getting the message across and can appear a little more exaggerated either way but it should never be the horses driving force. If it is the driving force communication will be stifled because all you're doing is telling it to go all the time where a very subtle movement of the fingers is often enough to get them for example opening up in things like the extended canter. Riding is not magic but when you are able to communicate so completely with a horse it sure feels like it is and so it should look too.
Love this horse reminds me of a wonderful mare I had a long time ago. One wrong move and you're on the floor. Wish they were all like that quite honestly. Very much telling the rider it's a privilege to be up there rather than a right. So it is on any horse.

One thing her horses do well is move on when asked. Her horse bleeding recently may indicate a certain roughness with the spur
Does she have roller balls on her spurs or serrated rollers ?
do you mean with MSJ??? The blood was found on the hock joint...explain how spurs would do that haha. It was more than likely just an accident on the trailer or something.
July 2024. Dejardin is under investigation due to cruelty to horses. Probably she Dejardin has whipped her own horse 🐴 poor horses. Can not she feel some sympathy for the horses 🐴 ? Can she feel awful, hurting such noble animals.indeed she has A heart so cruel ! An error ? She whipped the horse 24 times in less than a minute. A video did not emerge ! A lawyer has presented the video to protect the future of horses. Horses have to be protected from Dejardin. How many times has Dejardin been this Cruel and violent ? Only this time she got caught. Cruelty is never the answer.
