    i was driving through Miami during a bad tropical storm. the I-95 was completely stopped because even fully stopped and my wipers going full tilt boogey i still had absolutely zero visibility. from the downpour of rain
    to say it was a “brollybuster“ or “coming down in stair rods” would be an absolute sick and gross understatement .

    I always find, when junctions and roundabouts have power cuts causing the traffic lights not to work, it mostly seems to flow so much nicer

      Yes agreed 100%. Sometime traffic lights cause more traffic problems than they solve. But guess it keeps someone in a well paid jobs in the local councils and highways planning dept😉

    Great decision to go to Swansea on the Thursday evening with the weather. The following morning 2 HGV,s went over on the M4 just out of Swansea. They were curtain siders. Great video .Take care and stay safe .

    Well planned on your part Luke. It does not cease to amaze me that in such a tightly regulated industry that more thought is not given to the individual driver who is out on the road to call it safety wise and shelter down and avoid dangerous conditions there is too many drivers being pressurised by just in time deliveries and young inexperienced traffic coordinators. No commercial cargo is worth risking a drivers life for.

    • @matty6848
      @matty6848 2 года назад +1

      Agreed Mike. As a HGV class one driver myself with 10 years behind the wheel I’ve learned too say no, especially too planners who try to pressurise you into potentially dangerous situations as in bad weather, high winds, heavy rain, snow Ice, if you feel unsafe the answer is no. What’s the worst their going too do? Annoy your transport manager. But I’m not risking my life and others for no Load or job urgency or not. Trouble it’s the newly qualified, younger drivers they pick on and target. But your are spot on, safety is not optional it’s a must, especially in our industry and Luke will tell you exactly the same. And I imagine like me Luke doesn’t stand for any s#*t, especially off the industry bullies and there’s plenty of them.

  • @Jabber-ig3iw

    Wind is no joke, firm I work for 12 or so years ago issued a stop notice to all its drivers during a storm, everyone ( hundreds of trucks) were ordered to park up ASAP. One of the trucks had been blown over and the driver injured.
    A week later I pulled into one of their yards and the truck was parked over in one corner looking pretty smashed up, there was a large fence post that had penetrated the grill, gone through the dash and imbedded itself in the drivers bunk, fortunately for the driver it went between the driver and passenger seats missing the driver by a few inches, very lucky escape. Quite a sobering sight.
    About 10 years before that I was in a 7.5 tonner following a curtain sider up a road in high winds, fortunately there were trees along the road sheltering us, then at a gap in the trees the wind lifted the wheels on one side of the trailer of the curtain sider right off the ground, fortunately I was fully loaded so heavy so as I went past the gap I stayed upright.
    Always tighten curtains up fully, never leave them slack, they act like a sail in high winds.

    i know the feeling of just trying to get to your pickup or delivery and have to deal with traffic lights.
    you come up on a stale green light and you’re talking to the light.
    “stay green ... green , green, green, GREEN DAMMIT!”

  • @MrFlash4203

    I was in a artic curtain sider up north Norfolk and it wasn’t too bad. Quite a few trees had been down and at least one car hit a fallen tree. I could feel my truck moving like you. And a few of the businesses I had pallets for were closed.
    And I am a new pass only had my licence a week haha.

  • @matty6848
    @matty6848 2 года назад

    Another great vlog Luke. It’s the gusty winds that are more dangerous because you can’t gauge if it’s safe too drive or not. When it’s continuous high winds you can tell there and then, but as a class 1 like you, I got caught in a curtain and a massive gust caught the trailer, went over on two wheels for about 3 seconds and kid you not mate, I absolutely s#*t myself, I thought the lot was going over with me behind the wheel. I pulled straight over at the next services, rang my planner and basically told him I’m not driving any further until the storm has passed. I had all the crap “ you’ve got to be there on time, we’ll get a fine if we don’t” sorry I’m not risking my life and others for any job or load. I have no doubt you’d do exactly the same.

    Not sure if you are receiving shifts/work offers via Avail but, the rates are so low. Most every rate appears to be rock bottom (sh1t) and far below good agency rates by around £5.00/hr. But hey, was also wondering if you had ever compared agencies as like drivers, there's good, bad and some ugly conduct doing on! Seems too many agencies advertise roles they simply don't have not can get just, to get drivers data making fake and false promises once registered, work will be quickly provided. It's not nor ever offered at the rates advertised!

      Depends on the situation. I got loaded from the yard so yes I could’ve gone home that night or I could have a night out the choice was mine to make.
      Had I decided to go home then it would’ve meant starting work about 4 am. I decided to do a night out so that I didn’t have to get up quite as early but also so then I’ve beat the traffic on the seven bridge in case it was closed during the night.
      If you do a night out you do get paid slightly more yes. Including a night out it’s £176 for the day.

    As usual a great vid. There is one coment re the road traffic acts not applying on private prop[erty you made. This is unfortunately not the case. The problem was plod could not stop boy racers in supermarket car parks. The solution was a change in the law making the road trafic acts applying anywhere the public are deemed to have access. Why do I know rhis, I used to be involved in off road motor sport. For every event we had to apply for dispensation from the road trafic acts. The main organisation who can grant dispensations is the Motor Sports Association. Without the dispensation plod could have brought charges against reckless driving

    It was about 1:30 - 2pm here in Bridgend was about the worst time for the wind. had a branch fall onto the road about 20 feet infront of me today, all I seen was something with the corner of my eye, too late to miss it by swerving, too late to brake, even though did hit the brakes before could see it was a branch, so didn't hit it as fast as could have, luckily doing 30 mph in a 30mph zone, as a few mile an hour more and would have been straight through the windscreen if doing 35 mph. or hit the roof at around 40 mph. so least amount of possible damage to the car by not speeding. yeah little windy, but nowhere near as much as Friday.
