I’m currently living in the French Alps and I really do miss the sea! Originally from Rye, 12 miles on from Hastings towards the Kent border. The mountains never change, they’re either white, brown or green, the sea changes by the minute! 👌
Nice to see you down in my neck of the woods at Shoreham Port. I must have missed you as I don’t drive past there until about 11am. I see the Tom Tom Pro still takes you through the busy shopping area and over the level crossing at Portslade rather than via the signposted HGV route from the A27 to the port, which although about half a mile longer is normally a lot quicker. Indeed, for hauliers based at the port it is a requirement of their O licence to use the approved HGV route.
As you said the best way to start if you could do work for Harry and Son as you will not have to spend time trying to find loads although you might need someone office based to handle phone calls and paperwork. Luke C Haulage could be a good name as you are well known by that name. That was a pretty windy one at the first drop. Still haven,t got your own truck yet then Luke. Is it still being repaired?? Stay safe and take care and look forward to the next one.
Love the idea of driving Class 1, being by myself, but not sure I could work 12 hour days every day or even longer and not having a life, then again I work in a factory doing unsociable hours for crap money.
It's not impossible to be an owner driver, but paperwork is a pain. You have to keep on top of it, doing the accounts every day. Allow 2 days for Tax time if you do it yourself. I use spreadsheets but have used an accounting package which made things easier. Insurance is the trickiest issue I think.
It's taken me 52 years to get my HGV licence. Passed 1st time Thursday last week after driving buses for 3 years. Now sat waiting for a call after interview yesterday, said just got to get the ok from insurance. Not amazing money but Mon-Fri, days, no weekends or nights out. Just took the call now, I start Monday woop woop & they put me through my ADR too. Now do I start a new channel & vlog?????
so what happens when you have 7 mins drive time left and your stuck in traffic on a motorway for example ? surley its stressfull having time limits for breaks and driving ect and not knowing how long things will take ?

Luke, I heare in this video that you wanted to own your own vehicle and operate with other companies...if you do get that off the ground.. no matter what you call your company. would you be willing to take on class 2 drivers who are looking for work.. or recommend companies that might take on new passes on class 2 trucks? ideally within 25 miles /30 mins travel time of Didcot, Oxfordshire
Why not Crackalakin Haulage! or if you want to be modern 'LCH', when you pay for letters on signage, abbreviations are cheaper. Lena Trucker has just purchased a 2nd hand tractor unit to go owner-operator. The Rock God has been one for a few years also.

Doing it because Dad couldn`t is my sentiment too! My Dad died when he was 60. He scrimped and saved for things but didn`t get anywhere. Because I could I took early retirement so those extra years I`ve had away from w*rk were as much for him as they were for me!
How many people will remember Cuss Haulage or LukeCinaHGV Haulage. Always, always, keep it simple. People remember simple. After a couple of weeks, majority of people will not remember LukecinaHGV, but they will remember Cuss. Talking about going independent. I'm on a youtube channel "Justtruckin". He's an American trucker who works for himself. He's situated in the Carolinas. Even though its American, it might give you some ideas of the work

Luke .... try a IVECO .... even with a testweek you'll be surprised .... Mercs are being dumped on the market, but they get all that "discounted money" back on maintenance, only Merc parts fit. That's why a DAF is more expensive to buy, but cheaper in maintenance, thus cheaper than a Merc over all costs. I too am a ex trucker, 2 yrs ago blew both knees out and my COPD got to level GOLD II B2 thus lost my drivers lisence ability for commercial commercial usage .... so yeah 63 and early retirement too.
Any thoughts on MAN? Thought I'd look at them later in the year\early 2023 to replace my Scania. I had a couple hire Merc's a couple years ago. They were OK but as you say one I had cost a fortune to maintain and sometimes took weeks to fix.
i don't know what we spotted when we were younger - we live by the sea so spotting is an everyday occurrence. cuss haulage is good - your brand is luke c in a hgv and your truck will always be that but when you are rich and famous do you want to be reminded of your youtube days

I wouldn't be setting your heart on having your own truck until you have got your own house and ran it for a good 12-18 months ,especially with the ever rising costs of utilities,fuel,food etc,im not saying you wont be able to do it but see how things pan out after buying your own home and running it.

Along with you, I have followed her for some considerable time and she has recently left a company called Tag, a convoy exceptional establishment, )and gone it alone with a new Volvo and trailer curtain sider.
