    My view on the research question "Does social media have any effect on adults". I think the use of the word "Does" is not ideal to use as it limits one to research. The answer to this is a Yes or No, which is not recommended in research. It will be better to use words like "How" so that the researcher gets a list of factors that substantiate the answer Yes/No. the context of Adults is also not specific; maybe mention which group of adults in terms of age. This is what I think from listening to your insightful video. I'm looking forward to hearing back from you for more learning.

    "Does social media have any effect on young adults?"
    It is quite broad and open-ended. Social media can have a variety of effects on young adults, both positive and negative, depending on numerous factors such as individual usage patterns, content consumed, and personal circumstances. To obtain a more specific and meaningful answer, narrowing down the question and specifying the particular aspect or effects of social media you are interested in exploring could be helpful.

They merely showed how various information are categorized into the columsn in Excel such as Name of Author, Year of Publication, Sample size, RQs, ROs, Theory used, name of IV,DV, Mediator, moderator, findings and conclusion. However, this is just a sorting process. So far, I didn't find out any tutorials which demonstrating how the info in Excel is used to write even a single paragraph (a critical one) of Lit Review. • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  Год назад +1

      Well, there are various approaches. One approach involves determining your methods based on the study's objectives. So, certain objectives may necessitate the use of quantitative methods while others may require qualitative methods. Another approach is you formulate the objectives based on your research methodology. My advice is to keep it simple for your MA thesis. Many students believe they should opt for mixed methods, thinking it implies a more advanced approach. However, I disagree with this notion. Keep it simple and go for either qualitative or quantitative methods and formulate your research questions and research objectives accordingly.

    @kuo-pinwang3365 Год назад +1

    Thank you for the excellent video. I am curious about the difference between a research goal/aim and a research objective. From my understanding, a research goal/aim is intended to address a specific issue or gap in existing knowledge that we aim to solve through our research. Additionally, how can one formulate a research goal/aim that aligns with the research objective?

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  Год назад +3

      Thank you for your valuable feedback and your question. A research goal or aim is a broad and overarching statement that defines the fundamental purpose or direction of a research study, outlining the researcher's general intentions. These statements describe the ultimate objective or aspiration of the research project. Research goals or aims are often more abstract and less specific than research objectives, which are the concrete and measurable steps or tasks that researchers undertake to achieve their research aim. Research goals lay the foundation for the study, guiding the development of research objectives, hypotheses, and methodologies. So, a research goal or aim sets the overarching direction and purpose of a study, addressing the 'why' of the research, while research objectives break down this aim into specific, measurable, and actionable steps, answering the 'what' of the research. Ensuring alignment between these two elements is key, as each research objective should directly contribute to achieving the broader research goal.

    Hi....something comes to my mind after watching your old video on Systematic Lit Review. You had mentioned that thesis and empirical research paper base on Traditional Narrative Lit Review (the left-hand-side extreme). The review is depending on the judgment of the author. Please show what kind of judgment that usually comes to the mind of well-known researchers/gurus of the field. Also, please show us the techniques of synthesis (the most most crucial elements in doctoral studies!!) Thank you.
    ** perhaps after finish the typical video series (From chapter 1 to Chapter 5 Conclusion), you may make a new series on Systematic Lit Review.
    ** in my personal opinion, Synthesis is applied through out the whole chapters in a thesis.

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  Год назад +1

      Thank you for the suggestion. I will do my best to share my personal experience regarding writing a good literature review. As you mentioned, synthesis is a crucial aspect of this process. Also, the ability to synthesise other elements of your work is important. When it comes to judgment, some aspects are subjective, while others adhere to certain rules. For example, there are general guidelines for assessing the quality of papers to be reviewed. However, it is important to remember that a rigid approach or framework may make the qualitative literature review (on the left side of the spectrum) appear more systematic and objective.
      So, at the end, selection of what to review to some extent depends on your choice as the researcher. Btw, I understand your points. Hopefully I'll cover them well in the next videos :)

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  Год назад

      Thanks for the question. I have covered this in my other videos.
      The RO and RQ for mediation can be stated as follows: M mediates the relationship between X and Y. What is the mediating role of M in the relationship between X and Y. I personally in some studies state it as Does M mediate the relationship between X and Y?

    Thank you Prof. Sharif! I read in different papers that research questions and objectives are used interchangeably. Can we just use either of them in our paper?

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  Год назад

      Exactly! Typically, we do not include both versions in the paper. I believe making a video about this topic would be beneficial. Indeed, this is one of the reasons why papers often face desk rejections. Adhering too closely to the thesis format when writing a paper can introduce bias to the editors and reviewers, potentially leading to rejection. By the way, have you had a chance to watch my three videos on desk rejections?

      @@saeedsharif Yes, would be great if you make new videos to clarify. Of course I've watched all your videos (except the Persian ones;)) and they are all helpful. If possible, please make some tutorials on PLS-SEM and guidance for new reviewers, this is something that universities don't teach us. Best, Chen

I have a list of 50+ topics for future videos, and I update it based on the feedback I receive from my audience. I agree with you that the content I share is not typically taught in university courses. My goal is to create content that solves your problems. I want you to watch a 10-minute video and then say, 'Yes! Now I know what to do,' and just take action! I will teach you 'how' to do it in a few simple steps, and all you have to do is implement them. That's it!

      I see. Your other comment was related to this comment. It depends on your methodology and methods. There are different ways to conduct a research with this title. Btw, the title is a bit broad and you need to provide more explanation on that. For example, if you share your research objectives might give me better understanding of your work.

    Hi,dr. Saeed:
    This is lydia from UUM. Thanks for sharing the latest section with us.
    I noticed that the research questions in qualitative research are related to each other, maybe starting with what is the phenomenon? How is formed and finally what are the effects on sth ? My question is there are 4 research questions in my Phd thesis and i am preparing the graduation article , so what are the numbers of research questions in my article is appropriate? I want to focus one or two, but the research questions are correlated. How to choose the right research questions from the thesis? I have collected my data and my the title of my article is decided from some data. Hope you can give me some tips. Thanks a lot, dr.

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  Год назад

      Thank you for your response. Regarding your first question, the research questions in qualitative research are not necessarily structured as related like the way as I demonstrated in the video. The examples I provided were simply intended to give you an idea of the types of "what," "how," and "why" questions that can be used in qualitative research.

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  Год назад +1

      Regarding your second question, something came to my mind that I need to share with you. In splitting your research questions into a few groups to increase number of publications consider its ethical implications too. One important consideration is the potential issue of "salami publications." Salami publication refers to the practice of dividing research questions and findings into several smaller publications, often with slight variations in data or methodology, to artificially increase the number of publications. This practice can be ethically problematic, as it can lead to redundant or fragmented literature, potentially compromising the quality and integrity of the research. It is important to carefully evaluate the significance and coherence of each paper resulting from the thesis, ensuring that each publication contributes unique and valuable insights to the literature.

      @@saeedsharif yeah, you are right. Dr, Saeed. I will reconsider it. In fact, there are two key terms in my qualitative research., so i plan to focus on one term in the article. And when i am analyzing the data, i found there are several points i can choose. Maybe when you are available, you can prepare a topic like this: how to produce the article from the phd thesis. Thanks for replying me. I learnt the new term of "salami publications". Thanks a lot!

    • @saeedsharif
      @saeedsharif  Год назад

      @@lydiazhang7390 Good morning! That's great to hear! Indeed, publishing multiple papers from your thesis can be acceptable and valuable, as long as there is a valid justification for doing so. It's always important to be aware of the ethical considerations, such as avoiding salami publications, and ensuring that each paper adds substantial and distinct contributions to the field.
      And, you are right! This can be a very good topic for my future videos. Thank you for the suggestion! :)
