What a great way to use these pens. I have a set of them and can’t get into calligraphy but this is a great use of something that is sitting in my stash. Thanks for the new ideas
I've used my Tombow markers in a similar way. It is a blast activating the ink lines. Will have to hunt down my old Elegant marker now...Thanks for this gorgeous sketch.
Hullo Lindsay, I am truly amazed by your true acumen that a picture will just flow from the touch of a pen or brush with seemingly effortless effort! Whew!~ that’s a wordy sentence! I like the picture! That’s better, eh? I am wondering if you have done this and then went back and added some brighter foliage? A yellow for Autumn or a rich green from Spring? I hope you have a future video that addresses this idea? I am also going to look through your library of videos, I know that you have done a similar thing with your Michael’s classes, birtch trees by a stream working with Derwent Inktense pencils? Well thank you for sharing this lovely sketching practice with the lovely Elegant Writer pens! See ya next video!👍🏼
Hi Lindsay. I sketched and painted along with you. I also like these Birch trees. We have these trees in my home state of Minnesota. This was abstract to me. I love it. I enjoy abstract painting. Thank you so much for your inspiration and guidance. I wanted to learn how to paint Birch trees.
I love a calligraphy pen for drawing but I use waterproof ones , zig caliigraphy twin tip. I love the 5 mm wide tip and all the colours. This watersoluble one is interesting too. I bet a mix of pens would work great.
So nice to see these watercolor’ish pens ’coming back.’ I’ve used them since the original Pilot disposable fountain pens came out in the 90’s, maybe the 80’s. When they came out with colors other than blue and black I was so happy! Sketchbook fun, especially when in a boring meeting, lol. Glad they’re seeing a new life.
I love the effects you get when you just splash water at the beginning. I keep trying it, but I'm never as happy with my efforts as yours. It's just so freeing and extemporaneous. I'm gonna keep trying it. Love the colours that split out in these pens. Thanks for bringing us along. I love birch trees too.
Im fine with excitement on something old too. My two cents; if it is what you love as an artist, it's that love that will show in the end result. It's one of the things that is my own worst trap as well; bc when in a rot it's hard to find that soft spot even in the smallest things so don't make that your headache please :P took me long enough to even get my stuff out again. Buying my inktense pencils did it for me. I just love how vivid they are and can absolutely go full on "ahhhw" all day on that lol.
Neat video. I have the Zig double ended set of 12 pens I use then for "fancy" writing in my cardmaking. I may have to try birch trees on a card front after watching this. Have a great rest of the week.
Its the Daler Rowney Cachet Aquafine sketchbook but I can't find it anywhere to link, I got it on clearance from Jerrys artarama years ago. It's basic cellulose watercolor paper.
Beautiful painting! I doubt that she was THE FIRST to use it in an artistic way, she was just the first to popularize using it in an artistic way, or first better known/more popular artist to use it in that way.
So, about it being permanent once dry.....that is true, in my experience, but if you lay down a thick bit of ink and it doesn't all become activated, after that wash dries, the rest of the ink will activate if you go back over it w anything wet. FYI
Hi Lindsay I went and bought the set at Hobbylobby for 6.99 and my picture actually turned out. I would like to see more of this tutorials. Also, have you carved linoleum blocks? I didn't see it on your list but don't exactly know what it's called. I saw a kit and sparked my curiosity.
I've got an Elegant Writer around here somewhere ..... I bought it years ago to address Christmas cards but never got the hang of that. This though..... 😊❤😂

I love the way this picture has turned out…❤
Thanks 😊
I’m amazed at how quickly you did this, I just love it. I’m not a painter but I love watching your videos. 🥰💕
Thank you so much!
The scratching sound is very relaxing 😌.
Great tutorial 😸
Thank you! 🤗
Well… that was fun!! Gotta get me an Elegant Writer! Love how the colors split!
Go for it!
Your art is always superb! It’s been forever since I saw the elegant writer pens. I used to love to draw simple florals. Love your birch trees!
Thank you! Cheers!
I really do love the way the color separates with these. Lovely!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for using these pens again!
You are so welcome!

Search birch trees on my channel, I have many tutorials on them:)
I totally love this painting, and the technique with the pens! Thanks for showing us this really wonderful art project.
My pleasure 😊

That's a great idea!
I had purchased an 3 pack of the Elegant Writer a week ago, and was pondering where to go with them. This was perfect, thank you.
Wonderful!

Sounds great!
Never thought to splash on water to activate the color. I’m going to have to try this.
Great idea for these markers. What paper are you using here? I followed your link below but it doesn’t look the same as what you’re using here.
Its the Daler Rowney Cachet Aquafine sketchbook but I can't find it anywhere to link, I got it on clearance from Jerrys artarama years ago. It's basic cellulose watercolor paper.
I remember Marta from Maremi SmallArt being one to discover this technique over 10years ago also

I just saw Maine is having storms. I hope you are all ok❤️
We are all good here, crazy weather!
I grabbed my elegant writer when I saw this. Did you check it out after it dried? So gorgeous! Thanks Lindsay 💕
Yes! The activated areas don't reactivate much so you can watercolor on top!

@@thefrugalcrafter I watched the video. It was very helpful. I'm picking up the kit for fun to try something simple. Thank you
Aspen trees have similar qualities in my state
Very similar!
