    Thanks for reminding us all about life jackets and leave no trace. I've been active with scouting for 15+ years and local Jeep club and Leave No Trace is a common rule and smart choice. I was told decades ago, "What goes in Must come out.". Another way i heard it is GIGO. What goes in must go out.
    Appreciate you teaching your kids about it too. Maybe they will influence their friends.

      Well said! It’s amazing how many things our scouts learn that any other kids not have a clue.
      Cheers

    The cord you put the seat strap through is where you connect the seat tethers too. Not the cords in the back.

    I used a 2x3. Where the plastic protrusions are I marked on either side of them, cut down a half inch on the marks, put it in a vise even with the bottom of the cuts, and used a wood chisel to break out the section at vise level, hitting on either side between the cuts.

      I’ve seen some cool modified versions of this and they would work even better I’m sure. We just got a new green one, this blue has been kind of claimed by one of my sons girlfriends she barrows it all the time so sold her the blue one and bought another one for $400 at dicks a few weeks back

    I use foam golf balls from the sports section of wal mart for the scupper holes. You can thread and knot some paracord through them to add handles.

      Also can use the rubber chair tips 1” or more at Walmart in hardware 2$ for 4

    The one thing I dislike about this kayak are the two front clips that hold the seat in. I wish they made it a stationary piece that doesn’t fall off. great video!!

    That crack is from dropping it off truck or rack

    Neat set up!

    I would use a 2x2 to make it tippy feel

    • @greatamericansurvival
      @greatamericansurvival  2 года назад +1

      I only had issues on the water in heavy winds. But yes a 2x2 would definitely work. Haven’t figured one out for the Yukon I just bought it’s a different set up completely.

      @@greatamericansurvival I'll pick up a Teton in a couple months. I want a Yukon but the price and dry weight. The Teton is lighter and easier to throw on top of the Outback. I stay away from Asend kayaks. The wall thickness are thinner and higher prices

    Wow, I'll be able to modify this a bit and apply it to my Brooklyn Kayak Co. yak... Very nice! Thanks for the tip!

    Great video! I just bought a Teton and can't wait to take it out. What happened with the issue with the crack?

    • @greatamericansurvival
      @greatamericansurvival  2 года назад +2

      I reached out to dicks where I bought mine and manger gave me $200 off as damaged item. Doesn’t leak it’s not a complete crack. If it did I’d just plastic weld it. Lifetime offered to exchange it if I wanted to.

      @@greatamericansurvival Sounds like great customer service by all involved! I can't wait to get mine out and try it. After that I will start doing mods. The Teton seems be great for customization.

    You know since I do offshore maybe I can make the seat only two inches rather than four I don't wanna swim in 55 ft of water lol

    • @greatamericansurvival
      @greatamericansurvival  2 года назад

      Not likely. I’ve seen people install trolling motors but never a peddle drive.

      Foam golf balls from the sports section of wal mart fit perfectly in the scupper holes.

    Sorry I have the same kayak and tried this out. Makes it very tippy. Maybe because I’m fishing and not just floating around but setting a hook with this mod is dicey. +1 point for life vest comment though 👌🏻

    • @greatamericansurvival
      @greatamericansurvival  3 года назад

      Yes it does. Even thought about cutting it down some. It’s great on a lake or pond but I can’t fish on a moving river with it like this.

    I love your videos... very informative! One question... what are the orange grooved rails on both sides just in front of the handles?

    • @greatamericansurvival
      @greatamericansurvival  3 года назад

      They are gear tracks. You can mount all kinds of accessories in them, paddle holders, fishing rods holders, fish finders lots of different choices.

    Thanks for the video, love it. Also the comments about life jackets, good stuff. One question....did you do some sort of a mod with a bungie for a paddle holder? It looks like you might have but I can't tell. I would love to see what you did or how you did it. Thanks!

    Great DIY, you could also notch out the 2x4 where the plastic hinges are.
