- I made a portable, automatic, and effective free ranging chicken door. This allows my chickens to free range by day, and keep predators out at night. I can quickly move it and install it in any of my construction fencing, as I'm always fine tuning my set up.

The trouble with leaving your Pyrenees out all night to do their job, is they tend to protect the family by barking next to your bedroom window for hours at 2 am lol. Apparently if you get 2, one will patrol the permitter while the other stays near the house.

Congrats on the free range decision. We've been doing that for the last year or so, having come to the feeling that while it puts the chickens at additional risk, their life will be happier and healthier (even if it runs the risk of being shorter). So far we've lost one hen (although we're not 100% sure she isn't brooding somewhere and will reappear in a couple weeks with a bunch of chicks).
My plan (which I'm executing now) is to transition them from total free range all around the house and land to free ranging in a very large enclosed fenced area. This will (I hope) give them the optimal balance of freedom vs. safety. On that topic, all my chickens open carry, by the way. I'm working on that now.
Towards your goal of free ranging without a fence, one thing that I feel helps a lot with safety is when the human (you) takes up peeing around the yard. I've always noticed a very profound difference in how close local predators will venture when I'm around and peeing outside. The only chicken we lost was lost when I was away on a trip and not refreshing my territorial markings. As a fellow outdoorsy guy, I'm guessing you already do some territory marking, but if not, consider taking up the habit. It seems to make a big difference here.
Oh, and if you can pen then in away from your house, that'll also cut down on chicken poop all over your front steps, porch... pretty much everywhere you don't want it! ;)

I pee all around the primiter of the coop area and the pack of coyotes that use to work their way in have stayed away. When tje dogs see me do it they go to other parts of the coop and do it too. Family affair...
I see that your chickens “open carry.” I’ve been contemplating having my chickens do concealed carry instead. I think that might be more effective against those sneaky predators….
On a serious note, though, what do you mean that your chickens “open carry?”
It would be nice if the unit would beep for a minute before it closes. The chicken will learn to go home when it beeps.

I was about to ask if you have a Pyrenees dog having one outside with the animals day and night makes a big difference but I still close the chickens up at night. I did order one of these auto doors tho :)
Does their chicken COOP also have one of those automatic doors or does it stay open all night? Do the predators not climb over the fence (I'm picturing raccoons)

I love seeing mine running around. Every day when yhe sun goes down they are im the roose. I have to go out and close the door. Im wondering is my big Brahma chickens could get through.

I don't have chickens but I do have rabbits and I started free range them just in my fenced yard I haven't had escapes yet and I haven't had to mow the law
I wonder if they’d go back to a home you made for them at night? Probably not with rabbits
