I'm in Chicago, and I have friends that I knew from grammar school. There were 4 of us. We all grew up poor. 3 of my friends lived in the projects. I lived 2 blocks away in a 2 flat. We all had dreams of professions. One of my friends wanted to be a doctor. When he was in medical school, someone he knew commented suicide. He felt like he couldn't make it. This song played on the radio. This was in 1980. My friend cried and said he's going to make it. Today, he's a pediatrician. We all have good jobs with homes and kids.😊
A good presentation into the Lord for sure . Not sure about being one of the greatest gospel songs though,… arguebly Thomas Dorsey holds that title for his more than 1000 songs that we continue to sing unto this day.
This song was played every Sunday on WDAS 105.3 in Philly, as my mom prepared us breakfast. I miss her morning Breakfast she would throw down in kitchen with any food. This song would come on, and then the whole house would stop and start singing. Mom would say turn it up, baby. ❤❤❤ 🔥 🔥 🔥
I am from Alabama! Lionel Ritchie is from Tuskegee. We are so proud of this son of the SOUTH! The Commodores are fabulous as well! Beautiful request and reaction from Ashley! 😎👍🏽❤️
@@Fruit17-ip4vl Shout out to Alabama and the Commodores! I was in college when the Commodores were there. Also the Fly Jock, Tom Joyner. Lionel wasn't even singing then. He was playing the sax. We'd see them at local clubs like the Elks Lodge when they had fish fry Friday's. They were the house band. Also, Tom Joyner played records in the cafeteria for lunch and dinner. It was such a fun time. Got married to my college sweetheart who was from Tuskegee and grew up with Lionel Richie, Ronald LaPread and Tom Joyner. Great memories!
🧡🔥🔥 I grew up listening to this song. Popular radio personality played this to open his show every morning! He recited the Lord's Prayer during the song. It always sends me into worship! 👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 TFS!
The year 1980...this song was played in the car every Sunday morning on the way to church!! The crazy thing I learned about this song is this was on their 8th album and Lionel Richie had wanted to do a pure gospel song he had written since after their 4th album in 1976 when he felt they had reached enough popularity to do it without risk. The rest of the group was against it and finally in late 1979, Richie decided he would do the song solo with a gospel choir and include it on the Heroes album in 1980 and it was the best song on that album! But ironically, Lionel's decision to do the song against the group and the success of the song was one of the seeds of growing division in the group that eventually lead to after one more album together Lionel officially going solo.
I saw them during this tour in New Orleans and I was in the 8th grade at the time. They did an encore to this song with a mass choir. Lionel Richie started preaching and told everyone in the audience to tell everyone sitting around them that they love them. Not a dry eye in the house! One of my all time favorite songs!
This song feels so good in all the right ways. I remember being a kid at my grandmother's house. She would listen to the radio while she made breakfast. This song would come on occasionally. The sweet, smelling memories of pancakes, King syrup, and this song still warms my heart.
My dear young sistah Ashley, Jesus showed Himself merciful, strong, mighty and loving to me personally this year, let me tell you. On Dec. 16 last year, my wife of 37 years walked out the door and filed for divorce which caught me totally by surprise. My whole world came crashing down on me, I had some serious thoughts about ending it all. But then, that was just what I needed to come face to face with how I had failed her and left her with no real options. I won't go into the details but I'm so thankful for a former pastor who reached out to me and brought me into a group of the church that got me back on track. It's now just a week away from our 38th anniversary and it's looking very good that we (my wife and I) will be celebrating together praise the Lord! 🙏 Have a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!
What a great, great song of worship by the talented Lionel Richie and the Commodores. I would like for you to check out another Lionel Richie with the Commodores underrated song with a message called "HEORES"....
Lionel was in seminary...then got into The Commodores. 😊 I've heard & loved this song since it came out as a child. Listening to it today it's like the first time. It's hitting differently tonight. Cryin & snottin all over the place. 😊 I'm hearing it and feeling it. Amen. Pls react to Howard Hewitt's song Amen. It's a beautiful song. You'll love it.

Ashley this song is 45 yrs old, I remember working at a record shop as a teenager after school in 1980 and this song was one the most popular songs that year. We couldn't keep this Album on the shelf before it sold out !! This song still stands the test of time.😊❤
Yes!!! That is Lionel Richie & he started out with the Commodores. They did that with a congregation, a choir. I forgot the name. But, the harmonies was coming from the choir in addition!!! Cause you going there, my favorite scripture will always be, 1 Corinthians 15:58 "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." Another wards, stand firm because everything happens for the good of them that follow the LORD!!! Things happen in the bad even, just wait on the LORD, cause something else will happen that will be GOOD!!! Just hold on!!!
I've been waiting patiently for more ppl to react to this. The first time I ever heard it and before I learned the lyrics this song would make me cry EVERY-SINGLE-TIME!! As soon as it started from piano tap 1! One of the most heartfelt and best songs ever made
This is just what most of the people are saying about this wonderful song, it didn’t get too much airplay , at least where l was , it wasn’t a ballad, so weekly DJ’s didn’t have it on rotation, the Sunday morning Radio DJ’s , some of them played the song but some of the purest religious people l think liked the song but since the commodores wasn’t a gospel band, the strict religious listeners were torn and didn’t like to hear it on Sunday mornings , l worked at a college radio station in North Carolina and this is the feedback l got , this is such a great song, it was too bad the hardliners didn’t appreciate the song
I remember hearing this song when I was a little girl and I loved it then and love it now, it is my favorite song by them, great reaction as always, happy holidays to you and yours 💜
This song is the truth! I saw Lionel Ritchie in concert in Seattle with Mariah Carey it was absolutely incredible! Lionel Ritchie is my favorite judge on American Idol! ❤
Don’t know if anyone else has mentioned it, but this was the very first song sung at Michael Jackson’s memorial. Lionel Richie started with this song Jesus is love.
I ask u about a year ago for that song Thanks! But that song always be near to Me it reminds me when i was a kid and so church, thanksgiving and Christmas Thats a song u take with your soul

Okay if you are going down that rabbit hole: Howard Hewitt "Say Amen" Clark Sisters "You Brought the Sunshine" The Winans: "Ain't No Need to Worry" "The Question Is" "Tomorrow" Aretha Franklin "Amazing Grace"
I always wondered if Lionels song Love will find a way, was titled God will find a way on his music sheet while writing, because to me it was a jazzy gospel song that sneaks by unbelievers. I posited to myself by this time he was so big, record company said great song, but change that lyric and he changed it to Love. Hearing this song way later in my years, I now know he called Jesus Love before, so. 😊 if this isn't the story, it should be hehe.. All this to say, hoping you had a lovely and blessed merry Christmas and hoping you try Love will find a way by Lionel Richie.
Since you liked that one check out Shirley Caesar No charge and Jesus I love calling your name. Also Kool Moe Dee two dis tracks on LL Cool J called How you like me now and Let's go
Only Sundays in Mississippi the 70&80s,, 99.7 wjmi , 10am would go to church. This is the song it started that 1hr with. When we wasnt going to church, which was very rare, that was the radio station moms played. Turn to that station today its sad. They did midnight storm music at night but today its ridiculous. I know I stopped listening to that station over 20yrs ago. Rap 24/7 & u just could beep out the whole song. No positivity... the song will call you back to God in your spirit.

I grew up in DC, so I heard this song *every single day* at the end of Donnie Simpson’s morning show… and I’m *still* not tired of hearing it. 🥰
Not only one of the greatest gospel songs of all time but one of the greatest songs period of all time…🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🎼🎼🎼

That is definitely THE ONE!!! Absolutely loved it from the very first time I heard it. Jesus is Love!!!!!

Right after his closing monolog "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll be amongst the stars"
@ashley Reacts. You are an inspiration. I am a 59 year "young" black man who fully supports the positive messages of hope. SELAH!

This is the Commodores at their absolute best. The title is true. It's not giving Christmas, It's giving Christ. I wanna follow His star.

Every video she's drinking, gulping and smacking her lips right into the mic at the beginning. It's so off-putting.
