I had a set of these Strongarm 6304 struts from Amazon and it is a novelty. The frunk opens up too fast and you can see when it reaches the top it shudders. Also, if you live in a climate with a wide seasonal temperature variation (my area ranges below freezing in winter to 90+ in summer) the struts react differently. In hot temps the frunk opens too fast due higher pressure and in winter it often hesitates to open or doesn't open at all. The additional required pressure to close your frunk is also unsettling and feels like there is a lot of stress. For those reasons I sixed it and for me it was a waste of money. I initially bought these struts as I wanted to save money but due to the issues I experienced I ended up buying the electric frunk kit and although it is super expensive it is worth it if you actually use your frunk often. Being able to close it with the electric kit is a game changer and especially if you are grabbing take out where the restaurant puts the food in your car for you. With this high pressure strut kit you either have to get out and close frunk yourself or the restaurant staff tries to close it for you (not good). With an electric kit, you do all this inside your car. Definitely apples and oranges in terms of price but also in terms of functionality.
Hey man, just checking in to say thank you for the tutorial. I just installed and it took me less than 5 minutes. Thanks for making it super simple to follow. 👍
Update: thanks to Travel Tesla Dad ruclips.net/channel/UCPznrG8AE7cC86Awm7LM1Hg The Frunk on the Model Y requires removing the plastic air intake piece to even access the shocks, which this video doesn't cover.
@@TeslaTipsTrips Agree! The full motorized solutions are very expensive. I don't want to make that commitment coz I don't even know if I would use the FRUNK that frequently.
I don't have a recommendation for that, there are a few on Amazon. I've stayed away from that mod, since you have to pull towards the window to remove the current ones. Knowing my luck, CRACK! Thanks for watching and consider subscribing ;)
There is some resistance of course, but I think it's less than the trunk mods I've seen. I also put a weaker spring on my frunk latch that makes it easier, but that's another video ;)
Unfortunately I confirmed with a friend with a Y, and it's a totally different set up. Let me look around and see if anyone has done this for Y. Thanks for watching!
Do NOT buy. I've bought it through the Amazon link above. Received the strut it does NOT fit's Model Y. The strut is way TOO long. Had to return the strut. Maybe the strut is for Model 3, definitely NOT for model y.

Thanks for this! If a decent electric frunk kit ever goes on a good sale I'll probably get it, but it's just so much otherwise for that functionality.

Awesome to hear that! You are welcome, thanks for watching.
Nice video. May I suggest to upgrade to a Soft Close Suction system.
You’re such a fun guy. Love ya, thanks for the awesome energy on your videos handsome.
Since the auto close mechanisms are not OEM, they have proven not reliable. This tip is just as awesome as the auto trunk, I agree.

It's Very easy to Install the Frunk, but for the Back (trunk) it's a little more difficult because of the back glass
I know, I love modding stuff, but after looking at that glass, how close it is to the shock, even I am hesitant back there!
Looks great! But the new 2022 Model Y cars does not have struts. Is
Tesla deliberately trying to make us NOT do this mod?
Agreed I haven’t found a good solution for my Y, and I don’t want the full motorized one. Thanks for watching!

Any update on model y installation?
Unfortunately, I haven't found an acceptable, easy solution like for Model 3 yet. Thanks for watching.
It’s nov 2024 any problems and does it still work
I use it for take out all the time.
How's it holding up? Any issues with the hood bending?
Holding up great after years of use, and I use it a lot. Thanks for watching!
Do you recommend any replacement shocks to mod the trunk?
I don't have a recommendation for that, there are a few on Amazon. I've stayed away from that mod, since you have to pull towards the window to remove the current ones. Knowing my luck, CRACK! Thanks for watching and consider subscribing ;)
@@TeslaTipsTrips Yeah, I was a little worried about that too. Thanks for a great vid!
The Electric Man - another great video. thanks for posting. Can you please share where you ordered the hood decal? I'm expecting my MY soon.
The racing stripe is custom made using a roll of vinyl wrap and knife-less tape. Took 2 tries to get it right.
Hi, do you know how to do the same on Tesla model Y? There is auto open/close kit but don't need to go that fancy.
I'll be looking into that and doing a video when I get my Y in the next month or so. Thanks for watching!
@@TeslaTipsTrips Nice, I think its matter of finding the right size strut for it. Thanks!
According to Amazon, this doesn't fit the 2021 Tesla Model 3...is that accurate?
I'm not sure why it would be different, it's for a Jeep anyway. It's free returns for Prime, worth a shot. Thanks for watching!
Nice …I did that to my trunk but i felt a lot of resistance when closing so I removed it…does Frunk close smooth?

That's what he forgot to mention.😄
@@TeslaTipsTrips
auto closing better option than auto opening.
Perhaps, still very convenient. I miss it on my Y, haven’t found a similar solution. Thanks for watching
Will this fit 2022 model 3
I can’t say for sure, I don’t have access to a 22. Make sure your purchase on Amazon has free returns just in case. Thanks for watching
You said the model y install is different? How?
The bottom part of the shock is deeper in the frunk, it might even need a different shock. Thanks for watching!
@@TeslaTipsTrips checked a video on a automated one…but if that breaks what a pain in culo
Have you had any problems with it ?? (Now)
Nope. Still working great. I use it all the time. Thanks for watching!
Does it work for model Y?

Z Flip 3. LOL
do they work on Model Y?

@@TeslaTipsTrips Thank you so much for the response.
@@ChiragChaudhari Oddly I can't seem to find anyone doing this on a Y. Shouldn't be too difficult, it's just a little deeper down.
@@TeslaTipsTrips Do you know which struct would fit on model Y?

I never said it was for a Model Y
@@TeslaTipsTrips Haha VERY slick.
It’s nice till it pops open on the freeway and shatters your windshield, and it makes the hood warp over time.
Different mechanism entirely, it's been fine for over a year. Thanks for watching! :)
When you're in drive, there's a safety pin that prevents from opening
@@The333halfofevil ruclips.net/video/J0HQg0MFOOk/видео.html this one had a safety pin also!
Will it work for model Y??
Unfortunately not, and I haven't found a good solution yet. Thanks for watching.
