I just wanted to tell you that about 5 or 6 years ago my kids gave me my first orchid. I was determined not to kill it, which I do with all plants. I found your videos back then and I’m happy to say that you’ve helped me keep my orchid alive and thriving for all these years and I’ve even collected a few more along the way. Because of you, my house is now full of thriving plants like I’ve always wanted.
I live on a tropical island and I belong to an orchid society. One of the phrases everyone uses at our meeting is that if you're not killing an orchid once in a while, then you are doing something wrong 😅. We go every month and learn all kinds of amazing things. One thing I've learned is everybody does things differently, whatever works for them. And like you always say, Danny, you have to do things for your particular environment. It's not 100% success all the time and I really appreciate your honesty and realism.
The majority of people believe 100 % what they see on the internet, they don't analyse, interpret, evaluate. Sadly, they just don't have a critical thinking
I agree. But I also can’t remember a time when people actually could think critically…even before the internet was mainstream. I think there’s a possibility that only a few people acquire it. What if critical thinking isn’t a common human trait?
Critical thinking is a learned skill, it does not come naturally to most people, so you have to train yourself or teach people it. It is one of the biggest things I am trying to teach my kids.
I love the way you explain orchid care Danny, it makes sense!! I have a bunch of flourishing phalaenopsis because of your care tutorials! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
Dani, what you said had made a lot of sense to me. Stores pack the roots in moss. When it gets wet the roots drown. The bark allows them to get much needed air. I performed this task recently on an outdoor Begonia. Too much water. I squeezed the water from the roots. Then potted it. It went to the last leaf and I thought it had died. I left it. Then to my amazement, it regrew new leaves.
Hello MissOrchidGirl, I love your helpful videos and advice. I have had phalaenopsis for over 20 years and been able to rescue them, etc. but currently have a problem orchid I don't know how to save. I bought her in full bloom, however with droopy leaves. I thought she was only dehydrated and with regular bathing (more than I would usually do) her leaves recovered and became perky again after a few weeks. I then went on holiday during which time she unfortunately did not get enough water I think. Her leaves were droopy again (worse than before) but still without losing any flowers. Since I got back I have been bathing her more frequently again but there has been no change. I then repotted her, removed the sponge attached to her main root and cut off all dried and mushy roots (not many). The medium I planted her in is just bark chips. Two weeks in and her leaves are now getting even softer, however, her flowers have still not fallen. They are like in a "frozen/paralysed" state. Flowers won't fall and buds that are half open have remained like that for weeks. Also I have been spraying her daily with water mist. I am not sure what to do to save her as her leaves have become even softer and more shrivelled in the last two days. Should I bathe her more often and see if that helps? Or should I cut off her three flower spikes with over 40 flowers? Or should I repot her into medium that can hold a bit more moisture i.e. orchid soil with bark and bark humus? Or should I treat her roots with Hydrogene Pyroxide? I don't know what to do and would be so very grateful for your help. Happy for you to pm me if you prefer. Thank you so much in advance.
Great video Danni! Thanks for sharing. We always need to think critically and strategically with anything we attempt to do if we want to be successful and repeat that success. I love the way your brain works and your integrity. Love the new puzzle by the way! ❤
This reminds me of the people who were selling orchid seeds on Amazon, poor things thought they could actually put them in soil and grow hundreds of thousands of orchids. Now I grew up before there was any social media so maybe that's why I am very weary of if it seems to good to be true, etc. Any who, your puzzle looks beautiful, and I enjoyed this video. Please remember that we cannot please all of the people ever!! And that's ok.
Hi Dani, the way you do your videos is a giant step up from most of the other channels on orchids I fell prey to, before I got addicted to MOG 😂, I did a lot of the stupid things that are out there (tea soak, garlic water 😖, .....) and all that did was kill my orchids faster . I almost gave up and thought orchids were not for me, until I found your channel. Now I have healthy, blooming orchids without having to buy a new one every other month (Yay!!!). Truth be told, I buy new ones anyway 😂, but now they survive. So, I guess what I wanted to say was, Thank You! and keep on educating us 😊. Oh and by the way, one of the set ups, that did not work for your "puzzle" (the pearlite experiment) actually did very well with my orchids in my environment, which saves a lot of sphagnum moss. As if we needed another proof of what you just told us in this video 😉 . Best wishes, Rut
I love your videos! You're a great teacher and very reassuring. On that particular note, I have a question. I have managed to nurse a very dehydrated orchid back to almost normal but I splashed some water into the crown by accident and when I tried to dry up between the leaves I accidentally ripped the top leaf (still growing, only half the size of the other leaves) down the middle 😭 it's still connected at the very very tip (just) and about a centimetre away from the base of the leaf. Will the leaf be ok? I was so upset when it happened, just when the orchid was looking much happier and doing its best to come back to life.
I’ve been watching your videos for a few years now and one of the leaves from a healthy orchid has turned black at the tip. This is the first time this has happened. Did I do something wrong?
@MissOrchidGirl Thank you for this video and I'm happy to say I've always come back to your videos when it comes to Orchids!! I had my very first Orchid several years ago that died, I was SO sad because I love Orchids!! I found your videos and learned about treating crown/root rot, repotting Orchids, the different media I could use etc., you are the only person that was able to help me NOT lose any other Orchids, thank you!! And yes, those tiktok and other nonsensical videos drove me crazy lol!!❤️🥰🙏
Miss Danny, could you help me decide what medium to grow my orchid in? I rescued one last Christmas which is still alive, but not thriving. The last one I rescued had crown rot when I got it but then I tried sphagna moss but it got root rot so I’m worried. Just watched your video about why you gave up leca. Are the roots meant to be green all the time? Just after watering? Humidity high? I just get so confused 😅 I live in the midlands in England so there’s little light or sun 😂 Any help really appreciated. 🙏🏻
I have Phalaenopsis orchid that I got as a gift 4 tears ago, I get a new leaf every year, I have repotted it last year hoping to get a spike, but nope, I used the same kind of potting stuff I found inside the pot. What am i doing wrong.
Question: I have a Phalaenopsis orchid (bark only media) in a clear plastic pot with vertical slits that sits inside a decorative pot. I soak the orchid in its clear pot for 10-15 minutes every week or so as needed, then let the excess water drain out. Should I add a small amount of fertilizer to the "soaking water" every so often?
I would say “Yes”. Start with quarter to half strength of the directions on the package. The amounts tend to be based upon greenhouse growing, which many of us do not have. Purchase a fertilizer made for orchids because orchids do not grow in soil so do not have the microbes that develop organic fertilizer. I use the Schulz orchid liquid plant food, among other things, which is easy to use and dilute in small batches. Good luck with your orchid growing puzzle! 😊
Tech deck videos you can make to be like 10 minutes long now. You should be on TikTok. How often should I repot my orchids? I have one dendrobian and I have one philanopsis
I can summarize this video in three words! Education, education, education! 😅 and it’s not a joke 😉 Let me have two questions.. Do you flush your orchids and if yes how often? I mean after how many waterings? And what brand of fertilizer do you use? I know you said it before but I don’t remember when🫣

I’ve learned so much from watching your videos five years ago. I started with just one orchid as of today I have 16 orchids and I’m still learning.
I never thought one of the realest RUclipsr would be an orchid channel 😭
I’ve been watching for years.
“ integrating them into your reality “ - love it. Well done Danny

Hi, have been following you for some time...my orchids are all blooming just like the one you have in your hands...a big thank you..❤
Thought the secret of successfully growing orchids was hopes, prayers and internal screaming, or that might just be me.
That’s probably the secret of maybe making it another day 😂😂😂

How do you decide which pots need air holes and which don’t?
Aww, love the puzzle! Thanks for all of your informative videos. They have been oh-so helpful. Good luck with your move!
Well said ❤

It is so nice to listen to someone who is capable of critical thinking. So rare these days.
Well done Danny! I hope your listeners get it!

light is important! people buy orchids from the grocery store and they assume that they can keep it in the dark kitchen counter.
Hi Danny, what is your local climate outside?
Hi, it’s Mediteranean and dry :)
That looks a lot like my Liu's Berry too. ❤
Awesome!
I just ordered the puzzle!😊
Awww thank you hope you enjoy it! 🧡
Hello Danni! Congrats on the 555k Subs! I just reached 30 subs too! 🎉 wohooooo!
That Puzzle is soo pretty! I'd love to have one at some point! 💚
I will be your 31st then:)

Excellent video!
On point- I have some too that don’t fit into my puzzle. 🧩 growing and learning what works in your environment is key.
You make it seem SO easy!! 🫶 I guess maybe I’ll get there one day!!
