Remember kids: Winners don't do Aylmer!
Review more Godzilla movies
Winners have Aylmer do them. Just call me Richard Gere, so climb on in and get to wiggling little buddy.
Review some Hong Kong cult movies, please
many lives were lost in the 80s War on Aylmer... mostly because everyone was too fuckin high on brain shit.
but does aylmer do the winners? lol
"...becoming the highest man ever, beating the previous record set by Stephen King directing Maximum Overdirive."
Damn, that line was too good!
Stephen King doesn't even remembers making it.
I was gonna say Timothy Leary but he got so high he transcended time and space
Made me laugh my ass off!
And his picture was creepier than this movie!
"Best LINE ever" no pun intended??
I've always liked that little scene where they meet up with Basket Case and even Basket Case knows that something's wrong with this guy.
He he. Basket case guy is holding an actual basket case
@@stephen70edwardsBelial is in there, getting some bad vibes off the other guy.
Do you have the time
to listen to me whine
about nothing and everything all at once?
I want a bilial, Elmer crossover
@@V2011FI am one of those, melodramatic fools, neurotic to the bone no doubt about it
The most polite brain eating monster you’ll ever see.
It was Zacherly after all.
Yep. Polite all the while being a big dick.
His voice was awesome. It was was grabbed me as a teenager. I loved "Elmer's Tune".
Brandon Tenold should be in the Brain Damage remake, who else agrees?
Who would you cast voicing Aylmer?
Simon Gotch?

Chris Pratt, duh.
HOLY CRAP, the dude in the bathroom stall is reading DEAD WORLD! That's Vince Locke's first comic book! Vince Locke is the guy who drew A History Of Violence, and he also drew a ton of illustrations for White Wolf publishing, specifically for Vampire: The Masquerade. Not to mention, like, a bazillion record covers for Cannibal Corpse. That's one fucking dope shout-out!
Hell yeah! Cannibal Corpse!
My man, I was just about to say this before I sa your comment. Also, Dead World was like the first zombie comic wasn't it?
@@jakeen229 Nah, dude, zombies have been in comics since the 50's.
@@pawlpoche8736 Cannibal Corpse and Vampire: The Masquerade! Double hell yeah!
This is why I still check the comment section, 99% of the time it's just hot garbage but every now and then you learn something cool.
I love that the artist you commissioned for your title card didn't have to do much work. LOL.
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to give up Aylemer!"
Brandon: But there is an unexpected cameo.
RUclips ad: Hey, it's me, Ryan Reynolds
The mannered voice and innocent looking creature makes the monster a lot more sinister.
4:50 - A Saturday morning kids cartoon directed by David Cronenberg is something I would LOVE to see.
In fairness to the artist who made the DVD cover, Brian does look like a mix between Brandon and Spencer from _Criminal Minds_
FUN FACT: Rick Hearst (who played Brian) later starred on soap opera Guiding Light alongside Barbara Crampton.
I think she asks about going to "the Sith concert". Those dark side of the force users went through a few different things when they were young and going through growing pains.
I wonder if there were cookies
Yes of course. Chocolate chip cookies. Dark Chocolate chips. heh.
@@stephen70edwards
... pretty sure she said "sin" concert. Aylmer seems to be a reference to Aleister Crowley, who was REALLY into Egyptian religion/practices as well as flatout, satanism + witchcraft. The old couple had books on satanism. Aylmer's nature is very similar to the vril parasite that Donald Marshall talked about 🤔
The Sex Killers:
Thirty Fully Documented Cases of Men and Women Whose Aberrant Sexuality Drove Them to Kill
by Norman Lucas (1974)
Apparently, its
1) a real book and
2) basically a precursor to true crime podcasts.
I'm always curious if the set dressing stuff is real or made up.
Thank you for the information.
Apart from the oddity that a talking parasite that looks a bit like a blue broccoli causes LSD trips when he eats brains: the makers of the film deserve one or two awards for their creative ideas.
I was watching this a couple of months ago and I couldn't help thinking "Hang on, that's Brandon on the Blu-Ray cover!!"
I love how the movie raises awareness to drugs and not doing them and doesn't take itself too serious
I was introduced to this film through Roanoke Gaming, who analyzed the physiological aspects of how Aylmer's parasitism worked.
Same here
the guy who voiced Aylmer (or Elmer whichever) should have done more voice acting. imagine him doing something in a Disney cartoon.
... they already got their token white guy.... Pedro Pascal 🤣👎
Brain Damage is among my favorite weird films of all time, especially for all the trippy scenes
I found out about Brain Damage because of the clip of the woman in the alley getting her brain eaten.
Was it on PornHub?
3:57 HIS NIECE CREATED MY LITTLE PONY! NO KIDDING! FOR REELZ!!!!
This is the weirdest “this is your Brian on drugs” PSA I’ve ever seen lol
I saw this and Frankenhooker while being pretty messed up at 2 in the morning on a shitty fuzzy tiny box tv in a squalid hovel of a room stuffing hot dogs into my face. I thought it had all been part of a "dream" I had at the time. It had been a wild night. I spent years searching for these movies not even sure if they were real. Remember the internet wasn't like it is now and video stores rented mainly Tom Hanks movies and 1000 copies of Terminator 2. Turns out they were real and some of the greatest movies ever made.
Brandon the type of guy to review his own night terrors 😂
Now Brandon should review Night Terrors! (That film is dreadful).
John Zacherle deserved a bigger career. I have one of several record albums he made. I also own a signed copy of the novelization of Brain Damage. Lastly, The Sex Killers is a real book.
Brain damage has a novelization?? How is it? I'd pick that up.
@@nunyabiz2889 Came out around the same time time as the film in a limited run available by mailorder from Fangoria if I remember correctly. It was a decent read, nothing spectacular.
1:51 For those who don't know, the lady in pink is Beverly Bonner, who has been in every movie Frank Hennenlotter has made.
She even had a theatre play about her character from Basket Case.
Who would win in a fight - Aylmer or Belial, the deformed twin from Basket Case? 😜😉
Also, hope Brandon does a review of Basket Case (and the sequels too) & Frankenhooker someday 🙂
Belial has hands and a lot of flesh at his neck - would Aylmer's stinger reach?
@@robotrix Good question.
FUN FACT: James Gunn of former MCU fame turned co-CEO of DC studios has made references to Frank Henenlotter in some of his film/TV projects like "Slither" and last years "Peacemaker"
You deserve all the royalties for that cover!
The guy that made basket case had a substance abuse issue? I'm shocked, shocked I say.
Honestly this is a good movie about drug awareness.
I've always thought this movie was a good metaphor for drug abuse. It should be shown to every highschooler in the USA
Im glad Brandon's channel is slowly but surely growing over the years. Been watching his shit since his Last Dinosaur review back in 2012.
Yeah the Last Dinosaur review was classic! What I find amusing is that it was made by Rankin Bass who did the animated Tolkien adaptations. So you have Richard Boone, the voice of Smaug hunting a tyrannosaur. Dragon vs Dinosaur 😎
@@arieljacobsegal Earth can be kinda awesome like that from time to time.
09:16
Brandon: "I've got the uncut version of the movie, which means we get to see scenes like this"
(a robot dog ad pops up in the video)
Me: Wow, a robot dog. How outrageous!
15:17
Brandon: "But there is an unexpected cameo at this part."
Mint Mobile ad starts: "Hey it's Ryan Reynolds."
Me: "Ok, yeah. That is an unexpected cameo."
I got a dufresne commercial. “Wow! The uncut version has furniture at a low price!”
I got one for "Displate Metal Posters"
@@MrDj232 Mine was Francis Ford Coppola selling wine.
And mine was Fanduel sports betting. I’m frightened by how I didn’t key in on the smashcut instantly. 😆
8:25.
As one of Jehovahs Witnesses that one time randomly wandered into a Dead Kennedys concert I can confirm this. Good times
Not for nothing, but at around 9:20 where you talk about the “uncut version”, immediately after you said “which means we get to see stuff like this……..” I got a Walmart commercial lol. It lined up perfect and because I’m playing Conan Exiles while watching this episode for a split second thought that some kind of quantum fluctuation had happened and you was now a pusher for Walmart lol. Awesome video Mr. Tenold, I truly hope you never stop doing these. Been a fan for awhile now.
I got an Expedia commercial lol
I got Burger King!
@@NeitherSparky lol awesome
@@NeitherSparky thank you for your reply, I wish you well friend.
Ooh, a late 80s horror movie that acts as a metaphor for drug addiction!
And with a cool theme song?
Count me in!
It's one of the things that Henonletter impressed me with! I love that he finally came out and said what it was about!
My second favorite of the Frank Henenlotter cinematic universe (Frankenhooker is my favorite). Aylmer was the 80s Venom, except he makes you trip out instead of go super strong.
Venom was the 80s Venom though.
@@darthadipose1920both of them were
@@darthadipose1920 Perhaps it was what they did in the 80s writing Venom.
saw this movie when I was way too young for it. it has a real special place in my heart
What's worse, being a girlfriend in a Frank Henenlotter movie, or Charles Bronson's girlfriend in a "Death Wish" movie?
I saw this movie twice during a weekend in the late 80s, weird how I remember this more than a 200 million dollar made last year.
I thought they said a Sith concert, so I expected a Darth Vader knockoff. By the way, I would love to be the person on a movie box art cover!
Nice use of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".
Thumbs up for that alone.
Best single word when dealing with movies or drugs...or penises
"UNCUT"
this movie is pure brainless fun, plus really cool soundtrack
Kevin Kline does the voice for Mr Fischoeder in Bobs Burgers, sounds a lot like he is channeling Elmer,
13:15 You just gonna not mention that the Guy who wrote "Elmer's Tune" was named Dick Jurgens.....OK then.
I absolutely loved this movie, it is completely unique.
Brain damage is still a better Venom movie than actual venom movie
Which one.
So is the movie Upgrade.
@@antifurryfoundation55 first one
@@henrymockingbird9645 nah man the first one wasn’t that bad. Now the sequel on the other hand was much worse.
@@HurricaneDDragon yeah pretty much
The Van Damme joke might have landed if that looked anything like Van Damme....
This is one of my favorite cult movies.
A note about the song Aylmer sings: the song Elmer’s Tune was popular in the 1930-40s, covered by artists like Benny Goodman, and the Andrew Sisters.
still remember showing this movie to my friend back in the 80s and he was waiting for the monster show up and when he said "hi" my friend was like "wtf" and was tripping the whole time he watched the movie!
I'd suggest following this with "Altered States", to see a movie with a lot of mushroom-induced disturbing religious hallucinations, a real movie budget, great actors, a skilled writer, and sci-fi horror. (And not so much talking penis-monsters.)
Saw this when it hit the theaters. What an awesome trip. Love this movie!
"If someone offers you a blue tentacle monster..."
Just run.
Saw all 3 movies as a very young kid, freaked me out then, and now I'm glad I finally know what their names are.
Thanks guy on the blueray box cover.
the dude from basket case showing up blew my mind
This movie is the shiznit, i seen this soo long ago one night super stoned. I never forgot it, kinda like a Horror version of Trainspoting!
Fun fact (and correct me if I'm wrong): The buff up dude in the shower is in Frankenhooker. I remember watching that movie several years ago.
If I had to guess, the concert she was inviting the guys to early on was a "sick" concert, as in expected to be fun.
The Doctor Manhattan joke was the best, I lost it!
the sex killers seems to be a real book the full title is: "The Sex Killers (thirty fully documented cases of men and women whose aberrant sexuality drove them to kill)" and it was written by someone named Norman Lucas
Wait this isn't the highest anyone has been. That award goes to the Lucas Bros in their 420 episode. Close second for Brian.
Duuuuude I spray painted this on my race car for a race tomorrow, also hilariously enough, it's my birthday!
Seems like a very interesting remix of Little Shop of Horrors. Instead of a big, imposing plant monsters getting the main character to kill everyone so he can be fed, it's a little, polite and conniving brain eater erasing his mind instead of egging him on for fame.
Love your videos, thanks for sharing. I found a lot of interesting movies through the channel. Love what you are doing. Thank you.
'the movie is an allegory for addiction' to be fair it is better made than Reefer Madness. And not as hamfisted. Some people probably didn't even notice the subtext.
Holy shit! That Blu-Ray cover really DOES look like you, Brandon!
For almost 20 years I always thought Aylmer was voiced by Bing Crosby
Thanks Brandon. Once again an absolute gem!
I love these kinds of flicks, sort of like Street Trash. There's an Aylmer Road I know of, too.
Though this film utilizes a good helping of dark, splatter comedy it also sports one of the most downbeat and vocally somber endings I have ever seen in a horror flick.
Brandon has finally made a video explaining his mental instability after watching every Showa Gamera movie lol
Nothing better than relaxing after a difficult day at work than to relax by catching a brand new episode of Brandon’s Cult Movie Reviews! Thanks for spotlighting a movie I was never allowed to rent back in the old video store rental days! Love your content (except for the kaiju reviews). Sorry, your Godzilla reviews are my personal least favorite, but I know a majority of your fan base loves them. I much prefer the obscure horror films that are firmly planted into my gray matter from my childhood whilst perusing the aisles of the local video rental stores! Keep up the great content from a long time subscriber! 😊
I came across this film by complete accident many years ago and watched the whole thing without knowing a thing about it. It messed with me for days afterward. In a good way.
This was so weird, but so funny. Great work.
The end is another Aylmer being born from his brain. Also that old dude did a fantastic job for someone who never acted before or since
I like how Alymer looks like a demonic Marge Simpson in the videos thumbnail
Brandon we all know those African dolls are just extras from one of Toho’s Godzilla movies
I absolutely adore this movie. It's my favorite Henenlotter movie. Yes, even moreso than "Basket Case."
This movie always come to my mind from time to time, the trippy visuals were quite memorable for 10yo me, also I remember a movie with a sentient pizza that then turn into sentient poop? good times watching movies @ 2:00am on TV
This actually looks like an entertaining movie. Not a "ha ha so wacky" entertaining, but a legitimate plot, message, and acting type. I must watch this!
This really is a great, weird horror film. Henenlotter showed how disgusting and dangerous New York was in the 80's, goddamn I miss it. The Swimming Pool Qs from Georgia were the band and they came really close to getting big, just like this Brain Damage.
FRANKENHOOKER! The VHS box talked! "Wana date?"
I will remember that my whole life!
When Aylmer was signing it reminded me of the singing frog in the old Warner Bros cartoon 'One Froggy Night'.
0:55-Oh come on! That's a spittin image of young Jeff Goldblum on the original VHS cover, and you know it.
For the first time I want to watch a movie you reviewed. This legit looked so creative and fun!
Random note: The book "The Sex Killers" is written by the crime reporter Norman Lucas. Full title: _The Sex Killers: Thirty Fully Documented Cases of Men and Women Whose Aberrant Sexuality Drove Them to Kill._
One more for the book list!
All I could think of was Henry Lee Lucas, pretty sure he never wrote (or read) a book, thank you for clearing that up! 😂
@@pamd3331 There is another book on the shelf, the title "Liquid Pain." Sounds interesting, but I can't find it. This is too early for the creepypasta story.
Another great episode Brandon.
"he looks like something from a saturday morning kids cartoon directed by david cronenberg"
so aylmer is from the real ghostbusters then?
Oh, hell yes. I love this piece of timeless art.
Brian and Brandon.... definitely doppelgangers...
Oh i remember our local vhs rental store had a lot of horror picks and I picked this up one weekend. Actually lots of fun.
I've been watching your videos for the last few years, and I love what you're doing. I'm also kind of a Gozdilla fanatic, Godzilla 1985 was the first one I saw and I've been hooked ever since. I love corny movies and horror movies, your channel was right up my alley when I found it! Keep up the awesome work!
Just in time for friday evening! Thanks!
