Johnny has to be one of the most likable people on the planet. A real comfort to watch, love this channel! 😁
@Soldier-2Point0 Awesome, I'm gonna have to visit Canada at some point my friend is obsessed with the place and from what I have heard it sounds amazing.
Just don’t get him angry lmao quick temper
@@mario7832 Wonder if he's a Scorpio. We're very chill, till someone makes us angry.
With so much negativity, anger, fighting and craziness in the world, Johnny’s videos where he just talks about the things he loves and is passionate about is one of the most refreshing things to watch
I couldn't agree more
I don’t understand how Johnny doesn’t have millions of subscribers. This is like my favorite channel on this platform.
Love you dude. Keep it up!
maybe his rude attitude watch how he talks to his best friend rob? disappearing from youtube for months? him constantly saying how he liked this and that before it was cool i dont agree but that is what a lot of people say
Jason Brown who’s a lot of people? I’ve never heard this.
Jason Brown but for some reason, here you are, watching his videos and participating in the comment section.
You’ve been a positive presence in my life for over a decade. I really appreciate you, Man. All the best!
Johnny you are my favorite because you seem "REAL" to me. You feel like a friend. Love the channel man.
Always fun to start off a Sunday with Johnny's enthusiastic ranting!
IKR!
"Video games are more art than art!"
love it Johnny haha
This is going to be a story for 20 years from now. “I remember playing this game when my daughter was born.....”.
Mine is Resident Evil 2.
My daughters mother had to stay in hospital for a few days after the birth so I had our daughter at home by myself. When my daughter slept I put on a friends copy resident evil 2, and it was so good yet tense. Baby waking up was scarier than the lickers.
Johnny: I'm all about giving second chances to videgames
Dynamite Dux: ...
Double Dungeons: "Hold my beer..."
You both best me...
I know this comment isn't exactly helpful in any way but I just love your channel. I'm sitting here... drinking my coffee just listening and happy to hear about how you're enjoying games whilst in the midst of raising your first child. Sorry if this sounded weird but I just needed to say it lol. Keep up the great work!
Nice comment!
Coffee and Happy Console Gamer are how I like to kick off all Sundays.
A started replaying Super Mario Odyssey the other day, and I can't believe how much fun I'm having. I appreciate it even more the second time around.
I beat it three times.
Just started playing Metroid Prime Trilogy yesterday and I have to say... Amazing ! Absolutely blown away! People say this is a Masterpiece and I can see why. After playing the 2D games for so long this is a nice step up and a really refreshing treat.
I was watching a series on Netflix on video game history and thought of this channel and how it would fit well. I think it is called High Score and it has a lot of interviews with the designers of old games and is very interesting. A person who has previously been on this channel had a lot of time in it, Chris Tang. I hope that I did not break any rules here, just thought that it goes well with the feel of this channel and celebrates the same love of games.
I agree with you there, it's a very interesting program and well worth watching
Panzer Paladin looks great! *runs off to the eShop*
Glad to see you are also a fan of Johnny.
My reaction, too. Looks like so much fun.
I looooved "Shining the Darkness" when I played it as a kid. Those graphics were awesome at the time -- seeing those images really takes me back.
Those “quality of life” improvements in the genesis collection are proof that every classic traditional JRPG should be rereleased with auto battles and fast forward. These features are a big part of why dragon quest XI on switch and viii on 3ds are the best ones to start on. I think as we all get older and take on more responsibilities, we learn to appreciate games that don’t waste our time.
Have to echo your thoughts on Ghost of Tsushima, the wind is absolutely a great feature.
Ghost of Tsushima is the last best PS4 exclusive. It's a triumph of a game. Every bit of it is so enjoyable. I would say the one minor flaw is the enemy AI is a bit stupid but that doesn't detract from the fun in the least bit!
And cheers to you Johnny, as a father of two young ones I can tell you that the only game time available is when they sleep for right now. Good on you for staying up with the baby while the missus sleeps.
Thank you for a another great video Johnny M! My life has been so crazy lately and I feel like I’m have one big panic attack all the time. When I watch your channel it makes things so much smoother and relaxing. Your the best man keep it up!
For me Ghost of Tsushima is the most beautiful game ever made ( Breath of the Wild is the only game, that i can compare), it looks phenomenal, and yes, its all about art and atmosphere.
Taking my sweet time exploring Tsushima. Now on the last act. I've never been so immersed when it comes to taking in-game photos. They're very photo realistic. This game is just gorgeous
You are in the golden time for playing video games with a baby. When my Zelda was that age over a year ago, I got so much gaming done. Now that she’s almost two, she has discovered my Xbox controller. She loves walking around in Banjo Kazooie.
Johnny is one of the most genuine and unpretentious gamers on RUclips. His enthusiasm and honesty is refreshing.
It really is. I'm glad I'm subbed to him
Ghost is fantastic. Platted the game. The open world and combat are superb. Also, I am a dad of two girls 7 and 10. Be patient as a gamer, it will be hard at times to find time for gaming sometimes but you will eventually get into a schedule once you find what works for you. There is nothing like playing new and retro games with your kids and that is definitely something you should look forward to.
Hope you and the family are well. Amazing that you're still smashing brilliant content with all the stuff your going through. Inspirational. Great work
Always look forward to seeing this video on a Sunday
Johnny you make the worst year in our 48 years of life much much better. Your genuine love for our medium of gaming is sincere and we love hearing about your latest an greatest adventures :). We will cherish the first day in 5 to 10 years when we get that first 3 of us on the couch and we all played story......... Stay Safe Everyone.
I remember watching the RPGS i tried to like like it was yesterday.. Damn time flies by
Damn! Thanks for the video What I am playing at the moment issss.
1.Tales Of Vesperia.
2..Okami.
3...Life itself the hardest game
Great picks, Okami is the best 3D Zelda game. xP
@@starknightlumina8680 I stared at this comment but yeah I feel the 3D Zelda vibes from Okami beautiful game
Your enthusiasm for retro gaming (and your newborn) just makes me happy, John. Keep it up, man. I need this stuff today.
I am having the same "Shining in the Darkness" experience right now with the 7th Saga (the patched version that changes it to being more like the Japanese version) and I'm really enjoying level-grinding and making progress! I didn't care much for the game when I was younger.
Never played Shining in the Darkness before. I loved the Shining Force games on Genesis and I like the old dungeon games. I'll have to give it a shot for sure.
You really should play Shining in the Darkness. I can't reccomend Shining the Holy Ark on Saturn enough.
Definitely, Shining in the Darkness is one of the best dungeon games from that era. There's such depth to the combat and so many unexpected surprises.
Glad there's another Shining in the Darkness fan out there now! There's something satisfying about exploring a dungeon meticulously and finding all the secrets. Currently almost done with my first ever playthrough of Ultima Underworld too which scratches that same itch!
Ghost was my game of the year, hands down. It was different than I thought it would be, in a good way. A really fun experience that didnt overstay its welcome.
I’ve been playing ghost of Tsushima when I haven’t been really busy. Almost got the platinum now.
I got platinum on changing the little monster's diaper. If you haven't achieved that, then it's something to think about.
tr1bes thats a good platinum then haha
I got platinum about 12 days after launch... guess not everyone plays 7-8hours a day lol
@@milorexhar6621 sure, if I'm rich enough not to work, pay bills, take care family, worry about retirement and health wise. It's an easy word called, "Responsibilities." When you get to that age where your health degenerate more than regenerate, then it's time to take care of your health. I could barely spare 30 minutes to play because I have other things to do beside gaming all day.
@@tr1bes well, i guess i will reach that point in my life too..
I didnt know anything about Panzer Paladin, but it looks amazing, it looks like a version of Metal Warriors of the SNES but for NES... they are clearly paying tribute to that game which imo is wayyy underrated, I always wanted another one, and this might be it!
Metal Warriors is a super cool game, my youtube avatar is the Havoc mech
Very glad you enjoyed playing Panzer Paladin! Thanks for featuring it in your video.
*Johnny mentions physical copy*
*taking notes*
Ghost of Tsushima is definitely my favorite game so far this year. Gorgeous, and yes, from the color to the music, to the acting...Definitely a piece of art!
This is one of my favorite games, it is a great 16-bit dungeon crawler. I just recently replayed it on the Switch and had a great time.
Ghost of Tsushima is the samurai Assassins Creed I've always wanted
"until there's a Sega ages version" Oh Johnny, you haven't heard
It's so funny, that's exactly how I played through Shining in the Darkness too, on that PS4 version with fast forward. Same with Sword of Vermilion. I loved those games growing up but I could never play them without fast forward ever again.
You have a soothing voice that makes me want to pick up the game and play it
100% with you on getting a physical copy of Panzer Paladin. I bought it and absolutely love it. I’d definitely buy it again physically.
you have appeared on my feed for the past few years so often that I thought I was subscribed to you. I was looking through my subscribed list looking for your latest video that I noticed that I was not subscribed. Well that is now changed. I love your content.
Shining in the Darkness! It's my favorite Genesis game seriously, then the Shining Force and Landstalker. Shining the Holy Ark is absolutely my favorite game of all time and I've played so many rpgs in my lifetime.
I had a great time with Tsushima also. I find exploration type games like it very relaxing in the evenings to play for a couple hours at a time and unwind. It was pretty easy but that’s fine for a casual game to chill and play it’s more about the atmosphere.
SHINING in the Darkness... my first RPG and game with english text, so i`m german and 11 years old and didn`t understand a thing. Somehow i managed to get how to fight and advance in the dungeon. But i would not really get items or spells... so i memorized the whole dungeon up to maybe 3 or4 floors? because i did not know that the cheapest item in the shop- seed, for 1 Gold i think- would show you a map of where you are...
This is how i did it: Left, Right, 3 times Left, 2 times right... and so on and so forth. What kept me going was the music, art design and curiosity. I will never forget that music.
You know what Johnny, I love your taste for video games. Up until now, I used to think that you only play new games, since you already completed the older ones. But then I realized how laid back you are when it comes to playing what you WANT. My point is, you don't have to be up to speed with what's being released in order to play everything. You can just play WHATEVER you feel like playing, and that's what I've been lacking lately. I've been stressing about getting up to speed in order to play new games like Ghost of Tsushima and Red Dead Redemption 2, when in reality, no matter how much I'm up to speed with everything, I'll NEVER be able to play EVERYHING. So, just play what your heart feels like playing. What an excellent lesson I've learned from the HAPPY Console Gamer 😄 Thanks Johnny!
I'm glad you're enjoying Shining in the Darkness. I personally love the game. It has a lot of that old Camelot Software charm. I also have to say that I'm heartbroken that the SEGA Ages stuff for Switch has come to an end. If there was ever a game that could have benefited from an auto-map and speed/money/exp modifiers, it's Shining in the Darkness.
Also I totally agree that the fast forward (and rewind) on the Genesis collection is a god send. I recently played through Phantasy Star 2 for the first time, and being able to fly through the grinding and even avoid really nasty encounters with the rewind really made that game more palatable.
I agree with you that videogames are art, and as a musician i must say .All modern music is written for games and movies .Its just like 100 years ago all music was written for opera or musicals
Third chance is the charm Johnny! I completely agree with you about Shining in the Darkness. I adore that game. I rememeber not liking at first when I bought it back in the 90's but after a few hours of persevering I started to love it. Just hearing that music now that you started to talk about it I got goose bumps. Gotta play that game again!
HappyConsoleGamer, one game that recently finished was Persona 5. First heard about the game from your show. I just wanted to say that it really kept my mind off the Pandemic and I loved the game all the way through. Thank you for sharing this wonderful game.
I’ve been playing Beyond the Beyond. A game I passed over back in the day but I’ve been enjoying rediscovering it now.
I loved watching my cousin play shinning in the darkness back in the day loved the little animation it had and the music just grew on you.
I look forward to your videos so much honestly makes the day better getting to watch a new HCG video
When my girl was really young and sleeping 1-2 hours a time I spend many long nights watching her while my wife slept and I played Stardew Valley on the vita. Now she is 2 I don't have any time to game at all! Hyper toddler.
Play some wii games with her. Or any dance game
My two year old likes to make the bunnies jump and collect the prizes in Jump Rope Challenge on switch!
Love your channel, reminds me of when I was younger and still excited about life.
Johnny is that guy in the neighborhood that would be more than happy to give you hand or give you the shirt off his back a real genuine stand up guy and you see that reflected in his vidoes such a vast knowledge of Anime and Manga and gamimg from the early days takes you back to that era.
Yes! Shinning in the darkness is my favorite "Shinning" game and I was always a bit sad because the game didn't become as popular as I thought it deserved. While I love Shinning Force series, it's too bad that they didn't make the 3D dungeon style sequel. The opening cinematic in the castle was pretty impressive back then and I loved how the game starts (an old man is sitting on the chair and talks to you). The music is memorable and I still remember the town, the dungeon and the battle music to this day although it has been at least 25 years since I last played the game. I also still have my original copy for Mega Drive and watching your video made me want to play it again!
@@apnwu369 I love Shining the Holy Ark!
@@apnwu369 Ah yes, you are right. That is also a 3D dungeon game... thanks for reminding me. That said what I had in mind was more like what we went through in Genesis/Mega Drive era. After I finished Shining in the Darkness, I was eagerly waiting for the Shining in the Darkness II but what they released next was Shining Force which was a simulation RPG and I was a bit disappointed... Also Kan Naito and his studio CLIMAX inc which developed Shining in the Darkness left the development after SF I (and made Landstalker next which I liked) so I feel like Shining in the Darkness never had a true sequel...
I’m currently playing breath of the wild for the first time
Sweet 😎
i wish i could play it for the first time again, enjoy it
My favorite game ever !
It's a game I keep returning too. At 49, not many games I can say that about. A very nintendo take on the open world. Truly open with little signposting. Exploring the world is the "dungeon" and it's so tranquil with that sublime music, so subtle and unobtrusive but beautiful.
Jamie Campbell I feel like a kid again playing it. I wake up early every morning to get some playing time in before the wife and kids get up
One game that I went back to this summer and especially after playing Ghost of Tsushima, was Dynasty Warriors 4. I don't know why but that game has a special place in my heart and it's just so fun to play!
I love how much Johnny can just keep playing games, both new and old, while keeping up a personal life and youtube show. I have my day job, but I feel a little guilty playing games on my day off because I want to feel like drawing, so I might escape the grind and become an artist for pay. Can anyone offer advice on how they might navigate out of this?
Lately, all I've been playing is RDR2 Online and Animal Crossing. I have lots of rpgs and adventure games to play, but nothing has really gripped me in a while. Part of it's the guilt, part of it's a general disinterest - but I know I want to experience these games, I just don't get excited and motivated to do so.
Hey Johnny, hope your daughter is doing well and her health keeps improving... your daughter and your family are in our prayers. Always love seeing a new video pop up... it literally makes my day!
Amazing way to catch up on adventures. Happy to hear everyone is doing well. 😊
Plus giving a game a second chance, never know, might find a hidden gem
Beat shinning in the darkness back in the day, great game don't think id want to play through it again though.
I can't wait for your video about Yakuza. You're going to LOVE that series. Id bet money you make a video dedicated to just that game haha
Thanks to you I bought Ys8 on the Switch. I had to come here and thank you cause this game immediately jumped to my top 5 on the System! Amazing game thank god I saw ur video on the matter! Already order Ys origin from limited run!!! Thank you so much and keep up with the amazing videos you make !
I've been really getting into Shining in the Darkness too! I really appreciate games where you are forced to draw maps and make notes, especially as someone with ADD. At first I just wanted to get through it to see how Shining Force compares but it's its own massively satisfying meal of a thing.
So nice to see you and hear your stories man, glad to hear that everything is going well with the wife and daughter :)
Great video Johnny! I'm glad you finally found some enjoyment in Shining in the Darkness. I picked the game up right when it was released. I think I was 16 at the time. I really enjoyed the game, playing through the labyrinth and making maps with graph paper. I enjoyed what story it had and the antics of some of the characters.
I definitely agree that it can start off slow and takes a while to get strong enough to progress. That is why when I went to play it again a few years ago I decided to play it on an emulator. Emulators have save states. I thought I really like the game, but I would like to be able to get into the game a little quicker. So I wrote a save state editor for the game so I could update the exp and gold to boost and get to where I could to the meet of the game. I'm glad you were able to use the fast forward feature of the collection to do the same.
Great video! Like always! I love that you gave a second chance to ""Shining in the darkness"!! Greetings from Spain!
I just came from the vet after getting a tumor extracted from my dog's left foot. I was really sad to see him under the knife but coming back home with him I opened youtube to distract my mind and saw your video and it made me realuse that this man has gone through so much recently and he is still strong. Why can't I! Thank you man !
I have been watching your content for years i too recently had a baby girl i truly look forward to all your episodes it gives me a little happiness in my chaotic day thank you for everything you do!!
I believe Panzer Paladin is made by a Canadian developer, Matt McMuscles did a video on it not too long ago
Panzer Paladin was a fun game! I really enjoyed being able to design your own weapons to use in the game!
The magic of the fast forward, all the old slow JRPG become much more pleasant and so much fun . Grinding become fun because it's *10
Thanks for showing us Panzer Paladin! I love these types of games and im totally getting it on steam!
Every time I watch one of your videos I just feel happy. Really curious on your thoughts on Crosscode if you ever play it now that it’s out on consoles, seems to be a game you’d really like
wow...I'm a relatively new viewer of your channel and I just saw those 2 episodes that you were talking about in this video today an hour ago before you posted this video. Talk about good timing.
I also accidentally discovered the fast forward feature in Shining In the Darkness on the Genesis Collection for PS4 and I found a love for that title.
I could never get into old school first person rpgs as a kid. I would always get lost and confused because everything looked the same lol
It’s really tough for me to put the time into RPGs I used to. The speed up feature is truly appreciated.
@HappyConsoleGamer First time commenting, but dude ... you are awesome! Love your enthusiasm and vids. Congrats on your daughter! 🙏
A lot of my first playthrough of Kindoms of Amalur was with my infant son sleeping on my left arm, and an xbox 360 controller in my hands. Wonderful thing about single player games: they can be paused. :)
Never knew you were a big Akira Kurosawa fan but that makes perfect sense dude! (I would LOVE another movies episode if you were to talk about Seven Samurai or Mifune's starring movies or anything, your movies episodes are some of my favorites on the channel all time no doubt!)
Please do a video on Akira Kurosawa movies! Would love to talk those movies with you sometime. I took a class in college all about Samurai film before I went to Japan.
I literally finished Ghost of Tsushima last night... what an incredibly poignant and thought-provoking experience throughout. From the deep and rich narrative, to the fluid and satisfying combat, not to mention the sheer scope of the open world, with it’s crisp and jaw-dropping scenery and locales which added to the immersion... it’s definitely my GOTY hands down.
...and just to think that its running on hardware that is basicly a i3 2100 + HD7970 in terms of power just makes it even more impressive.
From the way you talk about GOT. Makes me more excited to play it. I just finished Last of Us Part 2 and now I'm on to finishing up God of War.
Starting Death Stranding soon next month/October. Have the rest of my single player exclusives to do playthroughs before I get the PS5.
Really love the combat of Ghost. Can't wait to try it out.
I HEAR MEMORIES OF CELCETA OST IN THE FIRST MINURE MY NIHONNN FALCOM HURTS WITH NOSTALGIAAA
I'm so glad you like shining and the darkness. I've always thought it was a fantastic game! I have Panzer Paladin on the Nintendo switch and it's another fantastic game! It's actually a quite challenging game. It even has some strategy involved deciding on what weapons you should destroy and keep.
That balancing act is very difficult, at least in my experience it had been. Good on you for pulling your weight and finding some time for yourself. Hope Kim is getting some time to chill too!!!
Sounds like that fast forward feature is quite literally a game changer.
BEST QUOTE OF THE VIDEO: "IT'S TIME TO ENTER THE DUNGEON!"
GoS is one of my new favs. Extremely fun and beautiful
Loved Ghost so much. Definitely my 2nd favorite game of the year next to FF7 Remake. Actually got a platinum for it last week! Glad your family is doing well! I'm sure you and Kim are amazing parents! God bless!
ghost of tsushima is my favorite game ive played in a long time. game of the year as of now for me
I've been playing Panzer Paladin for a few weeks now and I can absolutely say it is amazing
Yes! Noting better then some nostalgic Johnny M to start off the day.
I'm glad you gave Shining in the Darkness a third try. My mom bought this for me at a garage sale when I was a teenager. This was the first RPG I'd ever played and I hated it. Over time though it grew on me. I never beat it on the Genesis. I finally got around to finishing it after buying it on the Wii virtual console 15 years later. No one talks about this game. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Soldier-2Point0 I still have to play Shining Force. I picked up Genesis Collection specifically for those games.
I bought Ghost last year but put it down after a couple hours. This year though, I picked it back up and really got into it. It's a beautiful game all around. I'm not a huge open world completionist but I've been trying to do as much as I possibly can. Great game!
Those hours watching over my newborn baby was what got me back into gaming....lol i miss those days. Cherish this time HappyConsoleGamer!
