Even if I didn't like the games, I absolutely HAVE TO give a huge thumbs up to this video, because my blood rushes the same way when I get a chance to play the games.

But now I get to introduce my kids to these games not just on my Genesis collection but it made me feel good when my Kids asked me to pre order a Genesis mini for their birthdays. Dude your enthusiasm and energy is contagious. I was around the same age when I finally got my hands on a genesis and a bunch of classic games and you're right; there's something special about these games and the age we were when we enjoyed them? Bravo!
Lion King, Vector Man, Skitchen, Jungle Book, The Incredible Hulk, Aladin, Sonic the Hedgehog, zombies ate my neighbors, Sonic and Knuckles, X-Men 2: Clone Wars
Batman and Robin is such wicked game, forgot about that for a minute. The graphics and soundtrack are fucking unbelievable. They threw everything they could at that game, technology wise.
I really enjoyed finding out what games made the cut for you. Being a long time follower I kinda knew you would put Phantasy star on there though :P Was surprised not to see The Story of Thor (maybe you didn't play it back in the day). Also, games you didn't mention that would be on my list: Alisia Dragoon, Castle of Illusion and Wonder Boy in Monster World.
Revenge of Shinobi is a very respectable pick for #1. Honestly, it might take that crown for me as well. While Shinobi 3 is also a golden title and I love it probably just as much, there is something very timeless to me about Revenge. I think it is sort of the poster child for what the Genesis represented for gamers back in that day. The graphics and music are excellent. The game play is the perfect combination of challenging and rewarding. The bosses are memorable and the finale was really tense. This is one of the first games I think of when I think of Sega and one of the first games I want to boot up when I pick up a Genesis controller.
Cheers from Brazil! I love your channel, genesis was my first console, my top 5: Sonic 2, Aladdin (better than the snes version), Gunstar Heroes, Monica in monster world (a port of Wonderboy with caracters from a brazilian comic book), Contra Hard Cops, and Shining Force.
Genesis was my glory days of gaming in the mid 90's. My top ten... 10. Power Rangers The Movie 9. Castlevania Bloodlines 8. Road Rash 7. Mickey Mania 6. The Jungle Book 5. TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist 4. Sonic 2 3. Earthworm Jim 2. Vectorman 1. Sonic & Knuckles
So good to see Sword of Vermillion on that list. I remember getting that and absolutely loving it. Was one of my favourite games on the system for sure
I'll have to go and play that one again. I'm pretty sure I finished it back when it was released, but it never stuck with me, and I often forget that it even exists.
10. Captain America and the Avengers 9. Battle Toads and Double Dragon 8. Maximum Carnage 7. Castle of Illusions 6. Super Street Fighter 2 5. Sonic 3 4. SOR 3 3. Shinobi 3 2. Fatal Fury 2 1. Gun Star Heroes.
Thank you Johnny for mentioning Last Battle. This game is much better than many people give it credit for. Played through it again recently and it was still fun. People that make fun of it don't understand how incredible this game was for its time. The map system really gave it depth.
Love collecting for this console. Almost have a master complete collection. Working on it, hopefully this year it’s done for the MurrayNJ08 Gaming Museum.
I had a genesis as my first console but never had that many games for it. Most of them were Sonic games. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was how I got to be such a good Puyo Puyo player. I'm trying to catch up on great games I missed out on via emulator. I really like Alien Soldier, haven't quite finished it yet but it's gotta be one of the best boss rush games I've ever played. There's something like 60 games on my list but I'm particularly interested in playing Gun Star Heroes, Crusader of Centy, and Landstalker.
I started to watch your videos recently and it feels like we are speaking the same language. Specially in this video. I can't belive (with the exceptions of Sonic, Ghouls n' ghosts nad Shinobi) I own and have finished all of these games. Maybe because I'm specially an RPG gamer . But the cohincidence is such that I also have played and finished Strider. I think what you have to add to be a "twin brother" is a basketball game like NBA Jam or such. Keep up the good work!
Revenge of Shibobi is so good. I have to commend you on a #1 I didn't see coming. Road Rash series is perhaps my favorite Genesis games but at that age I just wanted to ride motorcycles, and that game let me do it and beat people with chains, to boot!
Johnny, I'm watching this again because I'm starting to play and collect Genesis games again. I feel hollow in my soul for selling off all my games decades ago, but sometimes it happens. I was a HUGE Genesis fan. I never played a single traditional RPG, however. Always wanted to play the Phantasy Star games and Sword of Vermillion, but never did. I'm changing all of that today. As for Ghouls and Ghosts, it alights my heart with joy to see you speak so fondly of this game. Me and my brother played this the day it came out and skipped school for days after to beat this game. I am in love with it. One final thought, my favorite Genesis soundtrack (and maybe game) is Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse. I hear the music and I swear to god I travel in time to a better era. I'm curious what your favorite Genesis soundtrack is... Oh and are you a daddy yet?!
It was fun trying to guess the game by the soundtrack before you said what it was :DD Interesting choices, some are unexpected indeed! Crusader Of Centy is especially good, and haha you made me realize that I also played SOR2 with my girlfriends, I never even thought about it, but it's almost like a tradition.. that and ToeJam & Earl are like the go-to 2-player games on the Genesis..
What a great video and list. I think I played and owned almost every single one of these games, and they were all so much fun. The Genesis really did knock it out of the park.
I am watching a lot of your old videos, and i find it so sad, that even 4 years ago, people on the internet are so sensitive, so delicate..... Get so triggered by people's opinions, that you are forced to say ''This is your opinion, not an official list, people not to get offended if their particular favourite game isn't on the list''. Unfortunately, in 2023 now, it is even worse. Great video fella and really enjoying some of the old content.
Sega Genesis was my very first console, so Sonic, Golden Axe and Street of Rage were pretty much what started my love for games. My Genesis died a long time ago (although I still have the physical system somewhere in my home), but I still emulate the games sometimes on Retroarch. Though it will never feel as good as when I was a innocent 6 years old kid, playing Sonic on my mom's old ass CRT TV...
Kool Top 10! The Sega Mega Drive/Genesis is my favorite console of all time! My top 10 so far would be...... but a top 10 is hard cause there is so many good Mega Drive games 1. Strider (This is still one of the most amazing looking games for me and in some parts looks even better than the Arcade Version and some of the soundtrack is better IMO The Japanese Mega Drive Version is my preferred version and it looks amazing in RGB I might ad). 2. Castlevania: Bloodlines ( I like it even more than Rondo Of Blood and im a huge PC Engine fan). 3. Crusader Of Centy 4. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 5. Sonic The Hedgehog 6. Ghouls N Ghost 7. Phantasy Star IV 8. Phantasy Star 2 9. Streets Of Rage 2 10. (tie) Street Fighter 2 Special Champion Edition. The most complete SF CE and looks better than the PC Engine and SNES versions when comparing them all in RGB and also plays better. 10. (tie) The EA Sports games. Im a big sports fan and Genesis brought good sports action home for me that was better than what the SNES and TG16/PC Engine had to offer.
Excellent list Sir! I myself am a big Crusader of Centy fan. And I bought the Sega Six Pack when I first got my Retro 5. Unfortunately I did not grow up with the Sega Genesis, but I was (and still am) very happy with my SNES. That being said I bought Crusader of Centy Japanese version cheap and I play it on Retro 5 via Language Translation Patch. Love that Link To The Past feel.
Awesome video & great list of your favourite Genesis games! I have so many great memories growing up with that system as well. I remember renting Streets of Rage 2 almost every weekend...to the point where my brother was getting pissed with me haha. But it’s such a classic & I am happy I realized this at such a young age. I also love all of the EA NHL games, Road Rash 2, SKITCHIN, Batman Returns & who can forget Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, haha. This list really goes on & on!
Great choices. Old school RPG/JRPG and Strat/Sim games are my favorite. Your list is almost identical to what mine would be. With an exception or two because of nostalgia of course.
Love these top 10 list videos. Really I don't care all that much what's on them I just enjoy hearing people talk about games they like and what made them special to them even if I never played the games myself.

Thank you Johnny Millenium for making these videos. I can play your channel on repeat and it's like having friends over talking about video games haha Def good pics for your top 10! Some of those are my favs as well. Among my other favorites would be: Ex-Ranza/Ranger X Shinobi III Sonic 2 (the best of the series in my humble opinion!) Shadow Dancer... ... ok, gonna go switch on the Genesis now.
I never got much into Shining Force 1 for some reason, but I love SHF2 SO DAMN MUCH! Also, waiting for this 90 minutes episode on Revenge of the Shinobi
Great list. I am unable to put games in order like this, it's just to tough for me. Just to name a few games that I played a lot that I love are Genera Chaos, Road Rash 1&2, Toejam & Earl, Desert Strike, Shadow Dancer, and Shinobi III. I miss those early days of gaming.
Some of y favorites are Might and Magic, Herzog Zwei and Master of monsters and ghouls was also one of my favorites tough as hell but you keep coming back and shining force i bought a genesis mini for that which comes with streets of rage also a awesome game!

Dude your enthusiasm and energy is contagious. I was around the same age when I finally got my hands on a genesis and a bunch of classic games and you're right; there's something special about these games and the age we were when we enjoyed them? Bravo!
Love the Genesis. After the SNES, my favorite console of all time
Love the Sword of Vermillion nod! Just got done playing it on my modded genesis mini. Can’t stop hearing the travel music!
Props for high ranking of Ghouls 'N Ghosts!
Lion King, Vector Man, Skitchen, Jungle Book, The Incredible Hulk, Aladin, Sonic the Hedgehog, zombies ate my neighbors, Sonic and Knuckles, X-Men 2: Clone Wars
Streets of Rage 2
Sonic 2
Shinobi 3
Golden Axe 2
Earthworm Jim
Castle of Illusion
Altered Beast
Aladdin
Vectorman
Batman & Robin
Wow Ghouls n' Ghost at 2. You are a brave man.
My favourites are Phantasy Star IV and the Sonic games :D
Cheers from Brazil! I love your channel, genesis was my first console, my top 5: Sonic 2, Aladdin (better than the snes version), Gunstar Heroes, Monica in monster world (a port of Wonderboy with caracters from a brazilian comic book), Contra Hard Cops, and Shining Force.
Genesis was my glory days of gaming in the mid 90's. My top ten...

9. Castlevania Bloodlines
8. Road Rash
7. Mickey Mania
6. The Jungle Book

4. Sonic 2
3. Earthworm Jim
2. Vectorman
1. Sonic & Knuckles
it was my first console, the nostalgia. great vid
This video's are what makes me come back every single time. Johnny, just keep on telling stories like this because man, it's what you do best. Thanks.
Good review and the Robotech jacket makes it even better.
You're right, Strider should have made it in your top 10.
Hey Johnny, how about a Top 10 Game Boy Games List? I would love to see what´s your favourite GB Games are.
So good to see Sword of Vermillion on that list. I remember getting that and absolutely loving it. Was one of my favourite games on the system for sure
I'll have to go and play that one again. I'm pretty sure I finished it back when it was released, but it never stuck with me, and I often forget that it even exists.
10. Captain America and the Avengers
9. Battle Toads and Double Dragon
8. Maximum Carnage
7. Castle of Illusions
6. Super Street Fighter 2
5. Sonic 3
4. SOR 3
3. Shinobi 3
2. Fatal Fury 2
Just bought SEGA GENESIS CLASSICS for Switch. Stoked to have most of these games. Love this channel!
I really enjoy your videos - your enthusiasm is so infectious!!!!
Your passion for these games, shines through the screen - nice to see.
Gunstar Heroes, Shinobi III, Road Rash II, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Comix zone, Contra: Hard Corps. So many classics...
My top 10 so far would be...... but a top 10 is hard cause there is so many good Mega Drive games
3. Crusader Of Centy
4. Sonic The Hedgehog 2
5. Sonic The Hedgehog
6. Ghouls N Ghost
7. Phantasy Star IV
8. Phantasy Star 2
9. Streets Of Rage 2
Love your videos mate, revenge of shinobi has the best intro to any game, blew me away first time I seen it.
1) Streets of Rage 2
2) Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday
3) Road Rash 2
4) PGA Tour Golf 2
5) Landstalker
6) Flashback
7) Gunstar Heroes
8) Streets of Rage 3
9) Jungle Strike
10) Toejam and Earl
Honourable mentions: Madden 92, Zombies AMN, Columns.
Your enthusiasm is to die for! I'm just happy for every video that you upload! Keep up the spirit!
It’s hard to argue with your list. I loved Sword of Vermillion. That too came with a thick handbook. I adored some of the village music. Great list.
I notice he mentioned the Phantasy Star II guide, but not the Sword of Vermillion guide.
Why does Quackshot get no love ??
Ikr? Absolutely fantastic game with amazing graphics and sound. Better even than the Capcom developed Disney games the Snes got.
No Beyond Oasis? DUDE! This my fav of all time! %((
Love these top 10 list videos. Really I don't care all that much what's on them I just enjoy hearing people talk about games they like and what made them special to them even if I never played the games myself.
