Dripping with gobs of classic Aussie understatement. No "And now to go through the checklist" or "Let's put it on the paddock stand and see if the clutch works", no, its "Well, better take it for a ride". Love it.
Much respect for taking on an unusual and difficult motorcycle challenge and seeing it through...I've stumbled upon a few such unusual channels, MotoMetalMind has done some amazing things... Cheers
WOW! What an incredible motorcycle! I can see this beauty with a sidecar. Hats off to you my friend for your ingenuity and compassion with this build!🏁🏁
You could not mistake the sound of your bike, having owned 3 big Mercurys in my life the idle is unmistakeable a Mercury! I det it sounds fantastic when it comes on song, that's what I remember, the incredible roar from the induction ports, Fantastic job Malcolm!
@@malcolmoastler3039 good point. Suggest a sound deadening cover and let it draw from below. ALL two strokes induction roar unless well baffled or you don't mind. You'll hate it . I promise !
Couldn't agree more. The absolute rumble from my 3.0 liter 260+hp merc V6 is wicked at idle. Although the nastiest port timing of any factory mercury was the 175 hp 2.0L V6. Had one of those back in the day and it was wicked at idle.
Wow, what a beast! That must be an absolute missile! I’m glad I found this channel, it’s great following amazingly talented Australians and seeing what they’re up to.
Fantastic! I'm pleasantly surprised by how well it looks too. I hope you're pleased with it! Bike magazine in the UK did a feature on an outboard powered drag bike (2.7 litre V6??) - it would have been in the early 1980s.
Sounds like the apocalypse when you started it up. Love to hear it wound out on a long, straight stretch of asphalt, screaming like a banshee. Nice work...
Kudos! Mercury outboard has built some nice small engines. Way back in the Sixties we adapted one to run through a VW transaxle to power a home built autocrosser.
Id love to hear more about how you did it ! I have a cheap bug, and a trany, looking for an engine I have found the Merc 90HP 3 cylinder OB...now learning all I can about the Merc to design the fit up...
You can mistake a Mercury 2 stroke , the last one on our rib was 225 opti max chipped plus 30% and served us well . Going to be loud on the road ,nice work .
Wild idea, great execution. If you were able to shorten that custom tank that probably took days to finish, you could move the seat forward and have a more comfortable handlebar setup.
I like your new bike. It's a fine build and inspirational, I love "unique" things. When you are pioneering something, especially when you're wedding two existing machines of differing purposes, you have to adapt to what already exist and you did great but i see a potential problem with your air filter breather. The location on the top and thru the tank is really neat but if you had rain, it could puddle up and soak thru to your intake which could be problematic. I still give you a 9.5 😊👍
Just stumbled on this, great stuffl! I'm building a one off bike myself so I know how much work goes into something like this. I'll be looping back around your other videos at the weekend. Thanks for posting your stuff online - from Project Hercules 😁😁
Dude says, very calmly, nonchalant: "This is what it sounds like." WHAANANANAAAAABLAMBLAMBLAM-ITTYBLAM Holy sh*t. I know that doesn't do justice to that blood-curdling, terrifying and beautiful sound. The beast awakens.
Hello Mal :) I thought I'd clicked on another Allen Millyard video for a sec there seeing that bike. But no, you're definately that smiling Aussie that I got to know quite well back in Hinckley Uk many years ago. Good to see your tinkering old mate. Hope your brothers good too. Cheers Dave (KLR600)
I'm truly intrigued by your build, I have a similar dream but using a 800cc snowmobile engine. I'm curious what you used for a transmission and how you determined the correct gear ratios for the final drive. Excited to watch the progression of this build.
Same, I want to repower a fairly modern sport/naked bike with a nasty triple. Always loved triple 2-strokes but not many bikes had them and the few that did like the H2 or the Water Buffalo are so sought after & expensive. Leaning towards an SRX 700 or Thundercat 1000. Either way it requires the use of a divorced transmission. The only real logical choice is a Harley type like a Baker 6spd. Don't know exactly what this fellow has but by the side cover, its definitely a Harley type transmission.
@@Zach-ju5vi Why, for the same reason I would never buy a sports car with an automatic transmission. Yes it would be easier but I have no interest in a CVT.
@@mytmousemalibu I understand because I am that guy as well but you might be missing all the benefits and logic it brings to the table. First of all, a Harley Transmission is taking away all weight advantages from the two stroke engine. Second, the Cvt is far superior in performance and it allows the engine to sing at max load continuously. If you're looking for a Sunday cruiser a two stroke might not be the best engine either, two stroke is more of a performance engine that requires a lot of maintenance. Third, a separate transmission is going to lengthen the bike (like the one in the video) and it's not very aesthetically pleasing. A maico 700 engine could be a solution but honestly the Cvt will have you smoking guys on the streets.
Love the build mate. Sounds weird, a bike that sounds like a boat. Ride position doesn't look too bad with those extended bars. Must feel weird turning with them. Super clean build. Really love the tank/filter box. You really think you can get that registered, in NSW? I hope you do, I want to see that thing on the road. Thanks mate for the vid.
Fantastic! LONG ago, before all the current turbo'd, super "ecoboost" type engines on vehicles these days, I wondered if a bit (originally thinking Evinrude(?) V8) outboard engine could be fitted to a small-ish car for a lot of power with not nearly the weight of normal V8 engines. Mostly wondered about the cooling, and as I'm not a builder of your capabilities, and living in California where it'd most likely be banned for emissions, never went anywhere beyond my mind... :) So congratulations!
Fantastic work, like to see it fully legal and on a run. In the meantime, we only need a 'juststopoil' protest and we'll wave you to the front of the queue. 10 minutes of tickover should disperse them....hurray.
Considering I ride an electric bicycle that's 11 ft long with a 48-inch narrow Springer oh, yeah... your bikes not too long 😁👍💯 yeah...actually love it. Nice job
She's a runner indeed!! I often wondered if someone would eventually put one of these in a bike. You've solved all the obvious problems. i am wondering just how you've arranged the inlet manifold and carburetors. lots of work went into that!!
I wonder how the crank pins are spaced. If cylinders on both sides fired together, I would think it would sound like a two stroke triple, but it sounds too busy for that.
love it, but it's missing that glorious sound. I suspect you need to have that custom exhaust with those expansion chambers to get the sound and performance.
I like this idea BUT . Anyway try using a some kind of mechanical Gouverneur , maybe move the timing hey a vacuum cylinder might work . Just a thought . Have a great day .

Very nice to see a 2 stroke boat engine in a motorcycle frame have to say thats a first that iv seen great job
