ROBBERS ROOST… A Day Hike That Could've Ended Badly

  • According to local legend, Robbers Roost (also known as Shaman’s Cave or the Hide Out Cave), located northwest of Sedona but visible from any high vantage point in town, was a hideout for bandits and bootleggers, hence the name. (A film called Robbers’ Roost was photographed in Sedona in 1932, but no scenes were filmed at its namesake.) While that has never been proven, there’s no doubt this off-the-beaten-path cave with expansive views of the surrounding forest would make a great lair. www.sedonamont...

    That was pretty scary, but I'm really impressed on how you handled it - especially alone in that heat. It's definitely humbling but you got out! Awesome job on carrying extra water and not freaking out!

      If you have a 4x4 vehicle or ATV, you can drive straight to the trailhead, where you'll hike down the ravine. There are a lot of trails once you get across the ravine. My recommendation is to take the high trail and you'll (should) run into it. If you don't, based on my video at 15:35, turn back and take another. It's only about 20-30 feet from where all the trails split. So not far to backtrack and try again.

    • @deet7683
      @deet7683 3 года назад

      @@RachelinRealLife I don’t think we will rent a 4x4 so we will most likely have to do the longer one without a high clearance vehicle.

    There is no way I can hike in that kind of heat. Good job that you are doing it though. You are missing one key item on your hike. Hiking sticks, we both got them 2 years ago and we don't go anywhere without them. They are a life saver on rocks and such. Wonderful area, I have never been to Arizona yet. :)

      @RachelinRealLife  4 года назад +1

      I've got trekking poles but don't need them for every hike. I like them for steep hikes and/or long hikes. Along the side of the rock, they would have been more hazardous than my hands alone.

    Hello from Amsterdam. Long time ago. I like you and your vids really. After watching your latest vid (with the bees) and later this one, I wonder about one thing. Hiking in Arizona this time. Are you never worried about the wildlife? I mean beeing attacked by cats, wolves, bears or snakes? I do not know really but is this a thing you should be aware of while hiking? And if so, how do you protect yourself?

    I love a good suspense thriller! 😊 That was BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, AND SCARY! UGH -- that slip toward the end!😲 I’m not a hiker, but thanks for doing it FOR me 😉 Were there any snakes? Would you still take that same route again, though? Glad you made it 😊 (you’re a wild woman! 😜)

    • @RachelinRealLife
      @RachelinRealLife  4 года назад +1

      The times that I didn't have my camera out were a thriller for sure! I would take the correct route next time. There were too many places that I could've fallen down the side very easily. I have yet to see any snakes in AZ; just a lot of lizards, giant lizards, and some small lizards 😁. Glad you enjoyed!

    Went here with my boyfriend and his parents in February. Once you get to the first 'cave' looking rock down at the bottom (from the start of the hike), you stay left and then you'll reach a climbing point that will be to your right - stairs, basically. Just go up, up up and then you'll basically be there. Sorry you had to go such a long and sketchy route!

  • @worldtravel8979
    @worldtravel8979 2 года назад

    You really should not be hiking by yourself. Especially in Arizona where the trails are mostly unmarked and you easily get lost.
