    Fantastic vlog Les particularly the Tebay locations which are scenically superb, I know the locations well, and this makes a nice change from the citadel as much as I always enjoy your vlogs from there, you are very lucky living up here, a great selection of traffic. They certainly are getting their money from the use of class 66 the loadings are very heavy. 😁😁

    Loved the locations Les, these were places i used to read about in the railway press of the 50s but never has the means to visit them although I did manage citadel for a day in 58 - Canal A3s did not let me down.

      Thanks! Somehow I fell upon Hincaster by accident, the Grayrigg location I'd used over 40 years ago. I still look for those classic locations although several are not available any more.

    Great video Les, there’s some lovely scenery along the Cumbrian coast should definitely go there more often. I think the ballast cleaner is one of the longest trains on the network at full length

      Thanks. The coast is nice, just lacks freight. Still to see the very long ballast cleaners

    Hey, Leslie! I saw "Cumbria" and couldn't wait to watch on the big screen, and you didn't (couldn't) disappoint. What scenery to backdrop the trains with, especially the old bridge/viaduct/aqueduct shots near the end. Brilliant filming, only made more special by the scenics.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  Год назад +1

      Thanks Anthony. I thought you'd appreciate the locations. The viaduct is a difficult location but I think that the results were good. The motorway was closed in one direction making getting from place to place slow. That's why lines of traffic appeared on rural roads. - thanks sat nav!

    A splendid variety of viewpoints there. I don't know just where you filmed the Skipton sequence from but it took me a minute or so to work out where we were - I didn't recognise the place at all from that angle!
    Some interesting freight too.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  Год назад

      Thanks Tim. At Skipton I walked up onto the overbridge at the west end of the station. Going out of the station cross the road and turn left then up the road that rises up over the road past the station and over the railway, if you understand me. It's got very high parapets sadly and the line is only visible from the south end - in winter before the trees are in leaf.

    Hi Les Another great video there and some very nice locations, Those curves near the M6 look good and in nice weather will no doubt be excellent. There was one shot with a country road in the background which seemed very busy, was there a steamer due??? Thanks

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  Год назад +1

      Thanks Peter. The M6 southbound was closed for 5 hours. Traffic was heading down rural roads with some pinch points, following sat nav no doubt and ignoring one very large sign saying that the road you noticed was unsuitable for traffic diverted from the motorway!

  • @edmundcarew7235
    @edmundcarew7235 Год назад

    Leslie, at 1446, why is there such a queue of motor vehicles? Are they waiting to enter the freeway/motorway as you imply below, with the motorway closed in one direction but traffic lights only admit one at a time? Is this congestion "normal"?
    Another excellent quality video. Your submissions are informative and captivating.
    That track layout at one end of Carlisle (which I did not notice when there six months ago, as I had a suitcase and so wasn't easily able to move to each platform end lest I miss my connecting train) is amazing: so many crossovers and points. A nightmare if a train derailed there, not that I ever wish it to occur.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  Год назад +1

      The queue was due to the motorists following their sat navs to get to the next motorway entrance - sadly sat navs have no idea how narrow British roads can be and motorists can rely on them too much. If they had taken a different less obvious route they would have been back on the motorway without too much delay! They were about 4 or 5 miles from the next junction but had to pass through a very narrow spot with oncoming traffic. In fact they's passed and ignored a big sign saying that the road was unsuitable for traffic diverted from the motorway!
      The junctions at Carlisle are quite intricate but showing their age (the layout dates from 1972 and probably even earlier). Several major derailments have been narrowly avoided - most recently the one at nearby Petterill Bridge Junction when the cement train derailed. I think Network Rail would have sorted that out pretty quickly.
      Thanks for your kind words

    Ah, variety is the spice of life, I'm wondering who'll be the first to model a ballast cleaner train... Sounds like a job for Accurascale?

      Indeed and then the competition will be on for how long a train of them might be. Those on the east coast have bee half a mile or so
