I loved these two! My only complaint was that they didn't have electronics, but I think that also meant we got more durable blades to fight with. The locking mechanism and belt clips were what made them perfect for me though.
This feels like the next step from those, and I think that's what I love the most. Having that belt clip brought me right back to those lightsabers. I still have one somewhere around my room, and a later one based on Obi-Wan's Clone Wars/Ep3-4 hilt.

I think in this case the simple answer is the right answer. Starwar toys aren't selling. The Disney shows aren't creating any interest. Light sabers may sell better than any other toy but at this point, what does that mean. It stays out of the bargain bin for two weeks.

    • @StevenJShow
      @StevenJShow 4 месяца назад +2

Star Wars toys aren't selling, because Hasbro isn't making them. They barely produce to any number. They lean on subscrition and kickstarter.
Every toy company that puts in the work to put toys on shelves, is selling toys. Lego, Barbie, NERF, Lanard, Playmobil. They all have toys that people want, and they sell.
Hasbro is Hasbro's worst enemy. It's not that people don't want toys. Kids will play with toys if there are toys to play with. Yes, not having good Star Wars films and shows coming out is hurting the brand overall, but people still love Star Wars and will collect good Star Wars toys. Like this. Shame Hasbro walked away and left the money on the table.

In regards to the belt clip and whether hasbro actually used them on toys, the 2010s lightsabers (right before the bladebuilders line) had belt clips, and from what I remember, the blades would click into place when collapsed so they wouldnt just slide out. I remember that the way to "ignite" it being to just flick it out meant it would sometimes lock into place and overextend, making it really hard to push back in, but god those sabers were fun as a kid.

As a 2000s kid, I will forever stand by those old flick action sabers with the big red button as the definitive saber toys. Every kid my age had one (if not several since they were so inexpensive) and they even had belt clips so you could carry it around with you anywhere. When your buddy tried to ambush you? Just grab it off your belt, flick it out, and you’re ready to teach him a lesson for trying to sneak attack you.
They didn’t have fancy lights and sounds, but they were RELIABLE. Those suckers were durable, too. Heck, I still have my old Qui-Gon saber (passed down to me from a slightly older friend of mine) to this day, and, other than some minor scuffs, it’s still just as solid and sturdy as it always was.
It baffles me how gross and flimsy the quality of the plastic is on more modern products, especially when the old ones were super tough.

I had that one in the clip on the left, you swung it really hard and there was a piece in the end that would catch the air and make a low whistling noise....as a kid that was awesome, as an adult...ehh kinda cool, but even as an adult the hilt was huge...I remember as a kid several times having it flying out of my hand because of how big it was. But these Goliath ones, wow!! These are awesome. Hasblow backing out of the deal surprises me, but doesn't at the same time. I'd love to know why...wonder if Vala might have an idea given his relationship with them? I'd love to see one with some vac-metal on the hilt...that'd be so old school looking...hell, I'll wrap some of that aluminum foil stuff you get at a Michaels store 😊😊Can you imagine a toy company where every CEO, VP, sales etc are all massive toy collectors? Like the size of Mattel/Hasbro but with everyone at the top being collectors and getting the rights to the big IPs ...oh what a time that would be.

Yeah hasbro really blew it big time. They would have made a shit ton of money if they went with this guy’s invention. I’m hoping to get a green one if it goes on clearance or for Christmas. When I was a kid, the spring action lightsabers blew my mind. But these here really blow all toy lightsabers out of the water. I’m still fond of the Telescoping electronic ones too, but this takes the cake.

He should go to Disney directly for a lance to make lightsabers.

There was official Hasbro lightsabers that had belt clips, but they haven't made them in 20+ years and they never made them again. The hilts were super durable, the blades telescoped into the hilt with a button, they came in blue, green, red, and purple with different hilt designs (Phantom Menace Obi-Wan, Phantom Menace Qui-Gon, Empire Strikes Back Luke Skywalker, and there might have been a Mace Windu one), the blade was hard plastic so you could fight with it and it wouldn't break.

"the people who are in charge of the IP's, often aren't fans" nailed it.
likely this Power Saber was new, and new is scary and if it fails, you lose your job. no corp-type wants to take that risk. better to go with what has already worked. no one gets fired over the tried-and-true.
hasbro does not seem to be able to do anything right, and here they're stuck in the mud and don't want to advance, in the RPG realm they go too far turning a tabletop RPG everyone likes into a videogame no one likes.
same thing. they have no idea what they're in charge of, and if they don't understand it, it's scary and could lead to getting fired. people in charge of D&D aren't D&D players, they're videogamers. they have no idea what they have, so they try to make it what they know.
so is there any part of hasbro that isn't screwing things up? transformers? GI Joe?

10:58 Okay, I will slightly correct you on this point, but it's admittedly a bit pedantic.
In terms of the electronic lightsabers, the Yoda lightsaber for Episode 2 had a belt clip that you could hook it onto, and the blade locked. This was likely because the saber was smaller than most electronic ones at the time(though it still took those massive batteries they used to use). The Episode 3 version might've also had this, but I never had that one.
The clip seen on the Power Saber is very similar to the ones they had on the non-electronic "Basic" lightsabers you could get from I believe Phantom Menace until about when Disney bought the brand. I still personally view those as the better, more practical option for kids since you can't see lights during the day, and the durability alone makes them more practical for dueling and shit, but I don't feel like fighting about that today.

@@retroblasting I was literally just bringing up how Hasbro has made lightsabers with belt clips before?
      Both electronic and not?
The "pedantic" part was just because the examples are somewhat specific, mainly regarding the Yoda one.

This was something like a decade ago. I had a preorder with a Japanese website for a Darth Vader model kit. I got an email from them saying they had to take it off the website because Hasbro told them they couldn't sell Star Wars products to the United States. They still sold it to me, though, and I know a couple of other websites also sold the model kit. Hasbro was apparently terrified of competition from Bandai.
I think Goliath should contact Disney and see if they can pay for an official license. Charge $10 more and have them be based on actual sabers. Maybe even have an online only version for $100 that's diecast.
