This is 100% what I was looking for. You have made something that I thought was going to be quite daunting into a breeze.
Man, this is my first comment on RUclips ever. And itvis because i have never seen such geniality and generousity put in DIY channel. Wish you and to your family all the best. You are the champ.
You definitely reduced my fear of Fusion 360, thanks! Great video! Very helpful!
Thanks for your videos. I just made my own CNC machine and in my first trials the bit cut through my (scrap) wood on its way to the engraving. Your tip to add the G0 Z1 line is invaluable.
Nice! just cnc'ed my first part using Fusion 360, thanks to your video 😊
This is what i was looking for.
Easily understandable.
Simple and clear, well done and thx for sharing this
Great video. Spent most of the video mumbling out loud.”Oh,I see!” Better explanation than an instructor gave.
Thank you so much for sharing. That was very helpful and informative.
Great tutorial, thank you for posting
Very good.
Your good man.
Awesome video, I've been wanting to learn the fusion cam process so I can export stuff to my xcarve and this is perfect. Now I just wish My xcarve could run on mach3.
Thanks for sharing I'm wanting to get a C N C looks like the one you have you assembled
Since it's been a few years, you likely know this already, but you can modify the post generation to include that command you've been manually adding. Thanks for the video!
Hi I just ame across your videos and think they are great. As a suggestion you could take it to the next step and inlay the hardwood pieces into the pine base.
This was perfect. I love the gcode edit. Is there an edit to the end of the series to lift the bit back up to z1 when it's finished and homing?
Really really really really really really great video. clear concise and smart. fusion has so many options its so easy to get bogged down by the nuances and make dumb mistakes...thanks for helping me paddle through the crap. :) you saved a lot of my tools from being thrown. give my channel a peak when you get a chance..im going to have a ton of cnc content..both plasma and traditional wood
Love the video! As others have mentioned, this is exactly what I was looking for. I am working with a very robust and heavy duty, albeit very old, CNC mill. The limitation that I find myself dealing with is the maximum memory size of 1.44MB (basically whatever will fit on a good old floppy drive). I am curiose, for a program roughly the size and complexity of what you have created here, what is the gcode file size? I realize I can drip feed into the machine (luckily I got all of the machine and controller documentation when I bought this old thing), but for learning and writing simple programs, I am going to be limited to whatever I can fit onto a 1.44MB floppy disk. Fingers crossed that something of this complexity wont be exceedingly large.
Also, if the board you were cutting in this case were thicker and you had to make multiple passes to complete each 2D profile, would Fusion360 generate that gcode in a loop with each interation of the loop being a different z height? If I were writing a program manually, I would certainly do this to avoid rewriting all of the movements a second time, but I could see the Fusion360 gcode generator doing it either way. This may be me just getting lost in the weeds, but the memory capacity limitation has me a bit freaked out on mildly complicated 2D tool paths 😛.
In any event, you nailed the intent of your video. You conveyed the process of creating a tool path and then how to export that tool path through a post processor and load it into the CNC controller. I especially appreciate the quick sanity check of the code for the tool starting Z hight 👌. Well done!
Very well explained and very nice finished product. I do have a question, the system cut things out in a different order than you showed they would be, is that just because you went back and redid things just for filming?
Yes you are spot on. When i cut it out originally i forgot to add tabs also.
Thanks for this! I am working on a slightly smaller version of your CNC and this really helps. Have you thought of an enclosure for dust reduction and noise reduction. I am thinking I may want to incorporate that for mine, and would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Mines in my garage (quiet inside the house while running) and has dust collection so i won't be doing that but i see no reason that can't work.
I would've went with the Nintendo controller. But names are nice too.
(I skipped ahead to Fusion 360 part so I didn't watch the beginning)
Is the .125" stock box thickness an arbitrary number you picked out of nowhere or does that number have some relevance to the piece at work?
I was confused about Fusion 360 for I am using since the VECTRIC ASPIRE and VCARVE pro, to where everything was simplified from the creating of design until the processing of the toolpath.
Fusion 360 is a way to go on milling an ALUMINUM due to the adaptive clearing technique to which the latter does not have any. Just my thought!
hai, couldn't you set in the preferences Z-up for once and for all ? Nice video b.t.w.
Awesome videos! Have you done any 3d carvings with this Machine yet? if so how did it do? If not, do you think this machine would have any problems doing 3d engravings? Thanks for all the Help.
No I Havnt but im sure it would work fine
Hey man, I'm really enjoying watching your videos. I appreciate your easy to follow commentary.
I have a small issue that I can't get past. When I get my DWG file uploaded into fusion - it drops it onto left pane like in your video, but when I double click it to get it over to my workspace - it opens a new browser window and basically shows me a "viewer" version of the art. unsure where to go from there as there seems to be no way to get it back to my workspace. No amount of buttons/menu options I can find will open it up on my workspace area. Thoughts?
Note: I'm using free/home version of 360
Yes they did something so now you must save files as dxf instead of dwg.
Just build my first self designed cnc. It can cut up to 340x340x100 mm, yes thats little but i don't have the space for bigger. I realy need to learn how to setup the machine and toolpaths in fusion360 now so lets watch this and see if i can do it to :)
Nema 17 steppers, arduino cnc with grlb and a 500w motor that can accept up to a 7mm shaft/mill.
Its gona be a fun time.
Can’t you make that brody lee form in fusion 360? I’m just starting and have no clue how to do anything. I thought fusion 360 was for drawing up stuff?
Yes u can i just dont know how to
Might help us acolytes if you explained how you initialized the commands.."right click, return, tab, etc."
Hey there,
I wanted to ask you at 15:00, So what I understand that the cut should have begun from the top That is after g54.
later during the video, it milled it backwards, i.e it cut the small triangle first and then the "B".
Also, Is there any other software like Mach that has a much easier UI. I am good with tools just that my strong suit is not Working with software.
Thanks. Love your content
That's because i recorded the tutorial after the thing was already cutout so it was slightly different. Try v carve
good work like it ;) this machine can make 3d also ?
Yes
very good thanks :)
How do you get to 2D contour, where is that command or shortcut?
Thanks for the help with this video. The problem I'm having is that the center of the router bit is following the edge of the piece to cut out and so the final product is not as big as it should be. How would one get the edge of the cut of the bit to follow the design? Thanks
Are you sure the diameter of your but is set correctly. Also i believe there is a check box somewhere for what side of the line to be on.
@@DIYBuilds Thank you, that i believe was it. In the geometry selection tab, there are red arrows around the objects to be cut and I had a couple of them selected as the inside of the object. Thank you and have a great new year!
is it me or when it start to cut, it did it in the inverse order you select the cut?
Yes i shot the tutorial separate so it's not the exact same but the concept is the same.
Cool stuff but way over my head. I gather you do commissii work?
Can it use any cnc software???
When I upload, I dont see any thumbnails nor do I see the upload????
Do you have any instructional video on F Code? I only see G Code :/ Why u no like F?
Omg it's the queen of England.
Why weren't the tabs left?
why i dont have this menu CAM ?
They changed it in updates to be called manufacture.
Totally intimidated.....think I will try bronze casting......
This is what I want to learn bit WAY too fast to follow. I need something fir an absolute beginner but you are talking and clicking sooo fast only an experienced person woukd have any idea wtf you arw doing in fusion 360
Watch at half speed or re watch it or pause when you need too. I made this to cut as much bs out as possible.
