  • In this video I go over in detail how to use the engrave feature in fusion 360 to create G-code for use with a CNC machine. The project was made with some 1x10 pine glued into a panel and edged with some scrap 2by material for a boarder. The stain was a black poly by minwax and finished with a heavy spray coat of polyurethane.

    Thank you so much for the tip of adding the "G0 Z1" line under the G54 command. It was really helpful and will prevent many headaches from now and on (I've been struggling with the scratch on the workpiece for quite a few tries the last couple of days)

    • @DIYBuilds

      I thought of that but not enough people have access to Autocad for it to be worth it. If I used sketchup then I would have done that.

    • @JeffreyWigington

      If you do your design in fusion 360 or import a DXF or SVG, you can select the sketch plane from the tree list on the left. It can save you time trying to select each contour, but my experience with it has been spotty. It selects everything but sometimes Fusion has a weird interpretation of how it will engrave in between contours, so just double check the simulation to make sure it engraves where you want it to.

    So I have the same chop saw as you, and I'm curious if mine is just screwed up or if I'm doing something wrong - when I put something flush against the fence and try to cut, the stock blade will cut everything fine except the smallest corner, the bottom/back furthest from me. usually just throw a couple 2x2 scraps or anything of equal thickness to offset whatever I am cutting, but obviously it would be nice to not have to deal with that. Is that something you ran into ever with this one?

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  3 года назад

      Loosen the fence and move it as far forward as possible then adjust for square.

    • @PitchPerfectPianos
      @PitchPerfectPianos 4 года назад +1

      Same question. For example, how would you set it up so that the CNC hogged out the remainder of the "W" in "Wright's"? When doing it by hand, I would just go over the inside of the letter with the v-bit until the remaining material was gone.

  • @alexwash8209

    How could I draw the text and outside decoration, I mean why i could not design and draw them by fusion then make the rest of operations that you did in the video?

      sorry i do not catch your words well

    • @JeffreyWigington
      @JeffreyWigington 4 года назад

      You can do all of that in Fusion using sketches under the design section (the main section when you open fusion 360). He's just more comfortable designing in a different software. I will often design in Inkscape to create vector files (like DXF or SVG) and import those into a sketch in fusion 360 onto the stock board I create. There are many correct solutions that are based on personal preference and ability. Good luck!

    So I am really new to all this but why did you have to edit the g code before proceeding. Is this for all CNC's or does yours not have a way to set the XYZ manually? Great video otherwise, I liked the frame afterward. Normally I see people cut the whole sign in one go so making a frame second really seems to save machine time.

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  4 года назад

      It's because i don't use home functions so i set an origin manually each time and have to raise the bit up before the first move since fusion doesnt do it

    I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you have a possessive apostrophe on the sign which is incorrect, it should be Wrights.

    • @De1ta

      I was thinking the same thing. Awesome as this video is, every time I saw that apostrophe I made sadface.

    • @DIYBuilds

      It is possessive. It lets you know whose house it is.

    • @De1ta
      @De1ta 5 лет назад

      @@DIYBuilds I won't disrespect a great video with a punctuation debate, other than to say that you're correct, if "Wright" is a single person, but not if you're referring to the "Wright family", which is to assume more than one person. Either way, it's still a well made sign. :)
