    For this program www.worldairroutes.com/Eastern...
Eastern Air Lines started operating the DC-7 in 1953. The aircraft featured in this program was delivered to on January 23rd, 1958. Eastern operated 49 DC-7Bs, they were retired in October of 1966. Eastern Air Lines ended operationg in early 1991, about the time Just Planes was born...
N836D was rescued from almost certain scrapping in 2004 and went through a 6 year restoration project that led to its return to the air on July 4th, 2010 at Opa Locka Airport. In May 2011 the aircraft operaed its 1st International flight and thanks to a great cooperation between the Historical Flight Foundation, Ian Allan Tours, Florida Air Transport and Just Planes, you can now enjoy and be part of that historic flight!

My father was an EAA Captain from 1948-1968 and the "7" was one of the birds he piloted when I was a kid...great memories

When they took off from St. Maarten airport I LOVE the music they played. It took me right back to the late 50s to early 60s. Thank you.

I guess I was born about 60 years too late to really appreciate these magnificent birds! Absolutely stunning!
That's why I'm clingy to 737s and such. They'll be classics someday.

Yeah, but the jets will never be able to compete with the sound of those big radials. They are truly marvels of engineering, and WAY COOL!

Just listen to those engines humming right along, very smooth. And yes the REAL GASOLINE is sadly gone. Those engines would have a different sound when using that fuel. I do remember and used Real Gas back then. Outstanding aircraft. Thanks for sharing a fine flying example.

A prior comment from go4ride asked about pressurization. Although I am retired EAL I don't know the circumstances about this particular a/c but I do know that many of these older a/c are operated without pressurization because of concerns the pressure differential will cause the structure to fail (explosive decompression). They just fly low, keep the outflow valves open and let the air blow thru.

Thank you so much. I n 1959 I got my first airplane ride. We left Colorado Springs on a very snowy morning on a Vickers Vicount, flew to Denver and boarded an Eastern DC-7b just lilke this one, maybe the same airplane. Flew to New York on our way to Germany. If I live to be 100 I will never forget those PRT's belching flame and being serenaded by four 3350's.

I made a special trip to Opalaka just out of curiosity and I thought my heart would stop ,when I saw this beauty. My mom (a travel agent) and I (an 8-year old kid) would fly between Chicago (now MDW) to Charlotte, with a complimentary bump to 1st Class. It was the trill of an otherwise hard childhood. Every sound, smell, feel..well you get it...was etched in my memory. I never became a pilot, but I did work for 20 years in wholesale and retail travel, and have traveled the globe. This was REAL air travel as opposed to a glorified elevator ride (still cool). Yes, every generation will have it's special moments, but I thank everyone who is working to preserve this wonderful history. EAA Member 1245333

Ihave to agree although ive only made one flight on each. I lived in alaska for many years and over time i got to fly in 15 to 20 different airplanes from props to jets but the dc 7 impressed me most. It was a big powerful comfortable airplane; the cadillac of airplanes.[I flew anc to sfo in a dc7c in 1957] Another favorite was the lockheed electra, aso a powerrful solid airplane.

I understand the engines originally operated on 115/145 leaded high octane fuel...which is no longer available...so they have to also run the engines at lower power settings. That may have some effect on being able to run the turbochargers, etc.to provide pressurized air. Also, there probably isn't much reason to use pressurization since many flights are for novelty, etc. I suspect that in the case of inclement weather, this plane doesn't attempt to fly through it..but I am just speculating.
