Guys I've got 45K battles. I've only played 8, 9, & 10 occasionally for the last couple of years. Daily I play 80% Tier 5-7, 20% Tier 8-10 games. Tier 5-7 has some great game play. Plus you seldom get the a$$holes at the lower tiers. Some players at the lower tier's are just as skilled as the high tier players, but much more forgiving and focusing more on game-play and just enjoying the game. I could name a few WOT friends that are just freaking beasts in tier 5-7 tanks.
I stopped the grind to Tier 10 a while ago. Most of my tanks are Tier 4 through 8. I play the game to decompress, not as a second job. I'm not a seal clubber, I'm the stereotypical free-to-play "average" player with a 49% win percentage. I have a few premiums that I've picked up over the years to grind credits, and I occasionally tithe to Wargaming in the hopes of better RNG.
Mid tier is much more fun and more profitable then the high tiers. especially for free to play players without tier 8 premiums ;)
I enjoy the medium tier replays much more then the tier tens
All but one of my tanks are mid tier, 4-6. Yep, more fun. Never shoot gold so I actually make money in most games.
If I need to make a lot of HP in one game I run my only tier VIII, SU14-2 :)
Mid-Tier is definitely more fun!! I am older and my reflexes aren't what they once were when I was a battle caller for a number of clans. The toxicity at higher tiers isn't worth the elevated blood pressure and trying to grind credits in my T8 premiums only to get pooped on by the T10 try-hards is beyond frustrating. Give me a Cromwell B or T34-85M any day!
I'm glad I've just got a tier 6 premium, tier 8 is difficult against tier 10s and if you have bad performance you don't get as many credits, I start to struggle when I get to tier 7, I'm just not that good a player, and I can't be arsed with the grind as a mostly free to play player
You got that right @Zardnokalicious. Tier 10 play on the N. American server is so toxic. I also roll the T34-85M daily and my T-29 and Hellcat. I'm not grinding anymore high tier tanks and wasting credits just to suffer the in-game abuse. I've got all the tanks I need.
Looks like we're settling on the solid value tanks in t6 and t7. I highly recommend the Japanese Chi To SP td, a 3.5 sec reload, 250+ dmg standard rounds, with a thick frontal armor that I play like a bully 😂.

Mid-tier is more fun. Claus you did not mention the higher impact of arty at these tiers. I was grinding through American line, finally fully upgraded my T1 heavy, I go into battle top tier and 2 Leaf blowers pounded me to pieces. There was absolutely nothing I could do. The Leaf blower completely ruins tier 4,5, and 6. If you look at post-game stats, a Leaf blower always has the highest damage. Thanks Claus. good show.
Leaf blowers are necessary, just an obstacle to work around
Generally mid-tier battles are better as Claus suggested, and as a casual player myself I play only 4 to 9 with a focus on 5 to 8. The only down-side is that arties are really unbalanced in mid-tier and can one shot not only light TD's but many mediums too.
Most of my tanks are at tiers 5 to 6, good for farming credits to play your higher tier tanks (no tier 8 premium), less frustration at these lower tiers, the T1 Heavy shown in the video is an enjoyable tank to play

in my early years playing WOT, i found a tier 3 TD called a T82, my gun of choice was the 105mm cannon. the majority of battles on my account were in this Tier 3 TD, it was for me, the most fun i had in WOT, so it was a sad day for me, when they changed the T82 from a TD, to of all things......an ARTY, i still own this vehicle, but as an arty, i could not bring myself to play it, it just wasn't the same.

I like playing tiers 5,6,7 because I'm not a really good player and I'm hopeless over matched for anything over tier 7.
But 7 will be easily crushed by a large number of 8 and 9 monster tanks. This hardly brings happiness
It's not you (not entirely anyways), it's the MM. Anything above tier 7 and you will face gold-spamming, super premiums or tier 10s.
I have to play mid tier because I lose credits if I play high tiers. But there is also less pressure at mid tiers. Free to play.
For all the reasons Claus lists, I do enjoy mid-tier more. I would add one more, the players in mid-tier seem to me to be less toxic. For me, high tier games too often are filled with players who have lost the basic concept that this is a game, and it meant to be fun.
I play tier 8 arty when i need a break from the stress of scouting. Honestly a lot of high tier players dont even seem to know the basics of the game and its mech. They need to drop down 5 tiers and at least get to know the kindergarten stuff before they leave the sand pit. that's the other reason i wont play any thing but arty above tier 7. The shyt show you must bare to witness lol.

Almost every game I play is in tier 4-7. More often than not it's fun but of course, you get a good share of very inexperienced players in at T4 & T5 at times, as it does not take too long to reach that level, and if you have enough of them in your team it can be a pretty fast blow-out.
On a weekday night, mid tiers on the NA server are pretty calm. But come Saturday morning the only place to be is in the Tier 10 heavy tanks if you want the game to last more than 3 minutes. Thanks again Claus. Learned some new map positions today.
There's a bull shark, renowned for its ability to live and breed in freshwater as well as seawater. it's quite a nasty piece of work.

I've been playing WOT as a FTP player for 10 years, 26k games. I stick to tiers 5 and 6 because I enjoy the WW2 meta and dislike the cold war/paper tanks of the higher tiers and the cost. I get accused in chat of having multiple accounts and being a seal clubber!
High tier players accuse low tier players of seal clubbery because they want you to play their high tiers so they can club you :). facts.

I always forget it until I play the mid-tiers again, but Province and Widepark can only be played at Tier 7 or less, making a nice surprise and a breath of fresh air when I'm in the mood for mid tiers.

I almost at the point of selling all of my high tier tanks so I can play my low to mid tier tanks and have fun again on WOT. Love the channel Claus! Keep up the good work!
I've been playing since beta but mostly play mid tier now.
I mostly play T6-7, sometimes T5 or T8. What I really like is, that you meet barely an OP-Premium Tank nor a "Ferrari" wheeled tank that can´t be hittet, unless he does something wrong.
I really like the mid tiers. Mistakes are penalized less, the lower view range and speed actually allows you to manauver on a map and sneak around. The maps are actually designed for tanks at this tier.
Levels 5-6 are fun mainly because there are very few premium tanks and the fights are more egalitarian.
Hopefully WG won't notice this, it would be able to ruin even the middle levels.

I’ve said it before, over the last couple of years I’ve been selling my tier 10s to finance my tier 6s and 7s which are much more fun. I admit, my purple equipment and gold rounds are doing wonder to my MOE and I’m getting close to 3rd marks. Heck, I’ve been playing this game for 12 years and realized that win rate is too elusive with so many muppets playing. MOE is all me!

Hey Claus - Yes, two great i.e. FUN matches. Both the standard matches and your PD match led me to a similar thought: (a) I haven't played nor intend to play Onslaught, but watching how effective you've been in the Manticore by being able to actually outflank the enemy really demonstrates the huge the power creep that has taken place at the higher tiers while still using the older small maps. With 30 vehicles spread over only a 600 square meter map, there really isn't any ROOM to truly outflank anyone. So I think WoT should have an "alternate" standard mode (i.e. none of the "extras" included in Onslaught) for Tiers 8 through 10 with only 7 or 8 vehicles per side instead of 15. (b) And this leads to your other comment about playing mid-tiers. YES - I am tired of playing nothing but my Tier 8 Premium TDs and fighting in mostly higher-tier matches, while at the same time not really interested in playing my Tier 9 and 10 vehicles. So lately I switched to my T-78 American TD - pretty hard-hitting and fast - and am actually enjoying the game again. If this keeps up - actually enjoying the game - I will start replaying my mid-tier. Heck, I might even try my hand at the heavies (at which I generally suck).
agree, mid tier is more enjoyable. would love to see frontline expand to lower tier sets, like 2-3, 5-6

Yup playing tier 6 a lot more the last couple of months. I'm looking at purchasing some tier 5s that I've already researched also. When they introduced auto loaders into the game it was the beginning of the end. I think the higher tiers could be a lot more fun if we had the same type of maps they use for grand battles.
I primarily play mid tier tanks. I have no interest in paying to play this game anymore, although I had a premium account for 3 plus years. I initially was supportive of wargaming, buying tanks and premium and such. Wargaming shows little or no concern for the players, and most often do things only in the interest of making money. They do almost nothing to stop people from running cheat mods. They sell you a tank and then nerf it. The only reason I even play this game at all anymore is because I have made a lot of friends within my clan and it keeps me playing.
The most frustrating part is the horrible rng, and the mm. It often feels like WG just wants you to lose. If you play in a platoon your rng is worse. If you pop a reserve rng is worse. If you ever want to see for yourself keep a record of your performances. Using the same tank, try 10 battles alone, with no reserves. Then try 10 with a platoon. Then try 10 with reserves playing solo. You can also try some with a platoon and reserves. If you keep detailed records you will see it.
Wargaming has been trying for years to get the profit margin back to where it once was, and the changes they make are in the interest of this alone. I have written Wargaming several times and expressed my displeasure, but to no avail. So I promised them I would never give them another dime and I meant it. Hopefully Steel Aces will be a good tank game when it is released later this year.
I do have almost all of the tier 10s unlocked and bought (it was originally my goal) and played with each one at least one game, but for me the gameplay itself is more pleasant at tiers 5 to 8. I only play tier 9 and 10 for missions or events.
There is less power creep down lower, also more fun and not so credit intensive, kv2 and 152 are quite fragile if you can flank, much of the speeds are lower as you said

I agree, mid tier is fun. Favorite tank is the KV 220-2. Hull and Lower plate is thicker than turret. You ca play exposed and bounce a lot of shots from opponents wh o dont know to shoot the turret.
I only have the old T10 tanks, so I sold them except for my IS7. So I take that out every now and then. Other than that it's 4,5,6 occasionally 7. Then maybe I'll roll out in my Lowe for nostalgia
Mid tiers allow much more maneuver as in higher tiers the tanks have much more vision distance and less or no Commander Vision System. You don't have to deal with the plethora of OP premium tanks in tier VIII. At tier VIII, the top 53 tanks in win rate are premiums.Tier VII you find a tech tree at number 2 and 4. Tier VI tech tree are 1st and 3rd. Tier V the 4th and 5th tanks are tech tree. I seem to find many more blowouts at higher tiers, unfortunately, it seems like the blowouts are increasing at lower tiers.
mid is more fun, but it's a box of chocolates. in tier 8, it's not unusual to see a sub 500 game player (or multiple) in a rental or bought tank that utterly ruins the game and then indignantly tell everyone in chat that they suck and should have followed him.
i got a former Clan CO who berated me for playing mid tiers 5-6, i told him, im gonna play where i want and wat i want, sigh. Some people just take the game too seriously. lol
Also mid tiers have slower velocity shells and guns are overal less accurate, which effectively lowers everybodys DPM as well, making battles at mid tier last longer. Lesser chance of experiencing blowout game.
Any tier that does not mean you have to face OP tanks like 279e is always more fun. Some great tier 5 and 6 tanks and a lot more laughs as well.
When I was playing, enjoyed tiers 4, 5, 6 and 7. From 8 it just got more catty, rude and ultimately more stupid. "Why are you sitting at the back? I know you are a TD that hasn't got any armour and a big gun, but you should be in with the heavies at the front." Too many morons in the higher tiers just wanting an argument.
Why doesn’t all mid- tier agree not to use gold rounds? You shouldn’t be trying to be a $$ funded hero in tier 4-5’s

Big numbers! The history of video games has always loved inflated numbers, shoot the astroid get 1000, not 1 because a 1,000,000 score is so much more impressive then a 1,000 score isn't it? It is competitive at mid tier and I've found some very good competition even in tier III some days. It actually takes more skill I think to stay alive when everyone can pen you then to sit in "that spot" in a high tier where not much can damage you.

I'm that guy. I use tier 6 and 8 to make credits but I mostly stay at 6-8 for fun play. Tier 9 is fun but you lose money. 10 is a straight up credit drain. 9-10 can be fun when there is a big clan event or something like onslaught going on because most of the toxic players will be playing the event. I agree that it is not as toxic at mid tier, but you still have an occasional jerk wad.
I usually only play high tier when I get free premium account, and have boosters on.
Returned player. Started WoT 12 years ago. Been away 10 years. Been in tier 4 - 6 since I came back. Its made me a much better player than i was. Awesome games in these tiers and facing the seasoned players in those tiers just makes you better as well. I see no reason to move beyond tier 6. The skill level is already high.
Yes the mid tiers are much better, in part because you do not have to deal so much with the Field Mods causing massive combat differences. Tier 8 field mods do make a difference, but not drastic ones, in tier 9 the field mods start to show a drastic difference in combat and handling etc, and then in tier 10, you don't have field mods, you are probably going to get rolled (depending on your team).
Just recently installed the game after 4+ years mainly just for some nostalgia with my AMX ELC, and it's just fun! Even it's nothing like before the derp nerf, facing T-10s. It's too long ago to feel the difference anyway.
Not when you're in a battle with +2 matchmaking it isn't.

I am a weekend warrior that does not spend money on games, so it takes a long time grinding, so far, I have reached tier 8 and play lower tiers like 4 and 5 when stressed with the tier 8
I now stick with tier 3 majority of games and will play one game at tier 8 and 9
I actually enjoy Tier 8 the most. 6 isn't bad either, Ten is just a hit or miss. Ppl are very greedy in tier 10 which makes a game very easy to lose

Hmm I never thought of it this way. We spend so much time grinding to tier 10 and then just play tier 10 forever anyways. The upper tier games are full of gold-spamming, super premiums. Why not just stop at tier 5 and have a good balance of credits, fairness, and fun? Might just try it.

More fun and even if you lose you can get some credit, not much but at least you don´t lose credits like high tier ones.
I guess Claus has never heard of a KV2 that can one shot about 50% to 60% of these tanks that it meets that are the same tier or lower?

Mid tier is more consistently rewarding. Usually when I play a session I have no more than an hour to play some games. If I spend that hour at 8-10 tier it is often the first 5 or 6 games on the wrong end of a rofl stomp and it’s a bad experience. Time almost completely wasted. On other hand stay in tier 5-7 and I am going to have a handful of games that are competitive and fun. Maybe even able to squeeze out some credits. Eventually I get enough to upgrade some purple equipment to throw in them to boost the grind.
Tier 8-10 is full of the commanding, complaining and often insulting types of the player base that is slowly choking NA server to death. If you have a bad game they might come at you in your dm’s. lol

Mostly mid tiers are more fun... You still run into wallet warriors that fire nothing but premium. Those are usually the stat padders and players with 50k+ battles and no concept of how the game mechanics work.

I spend a lot of time at tiers 5-6-7. I just have more fun playing there and I almost always make some credits. I have 40 tier 10 tanks sitting in my garage gathering dust. When I need to do a spotting mission I drop down to tier 4 and run my Panzer 38nA. I have 449 meter view range on that one without binos and I don't have to compete with any EBRs. 😁
Depends how you define fun. For higher skill players fun means challenge, and the real challenge is tier X.
Change that to unicorns and wannabe unicorn stat whores trash talking lower skilled / equipped players daring to play upper tiers with all the game riggers and you're closer to the truth. 🖖🏼
They are funner because unless your running directives and a premium consumable and at least 5 full trained crew skills your doomed unless your in your meta tanks like 279e ect

tier7 are the most difficult to play.
They are easily crushed by the powerful tier8 or 9 tanks, and the crews of tier7 tanks during leveling are also at a great disadvantage in terms of proficiency and skills.

I quit spending money by going to mid tiers and I have just as much fun.
I tried tier 5 and 6. Firstly, all tier 5 games are littered with dirty Lefefefefes. And when I play my T34-84M I am in tier 8 games 75% of the time.

when I play KV-2 and have fun I always earn a lot of money but when I do the same in shitbarn I lose a lot because you have to spam HESH to have fun, so yeah midtiers are the best

If anything it feels worse than last time I briefly returned to the game - 60 battles, mostly a roflstomp by one side or the other and over in 5-6 minutes at most. Not a situation I enjoy from either side, although winning only 20 or so didn't help either! Not that I was ever good, but I used to hover around 52-53% WR. Today it was rare I felt I could have significantly influenced the battle outcome at all (although tbf quite a few games were in arty).
