    Godamn! Props to you Max! I could practically see these scenes in my head as you described them! It would have been a perfect remake. It maintains the vibe that makes the original so unique and so, so hard to recreate. Sounds like a perfect combination of your father's work and yours.

    American Werewolf in London
    is my all time favorite horror film.
    When I heard a few years back that you were working on a script I was very excited.
    Then nothing happened,
    and the memory of that script got lost in a chaotic shuffle of movies that were promised but never came to be.
    Now I'm reminded of it and I'm sad all over again.
    I'd honestly love to just be able to read the script.
    Some of my favorite movies are scripts that were never filmed.

Did you do that as a way of giving her a kind recognition because of her involvement in the franchise or was it just coincidence? Maybe an unconscious one?

    Cocaine Bear is what the kids want nowadays and is a fantastic movie. American Werewolf in London is a Masterwork and still is in 2023 but it's had its day and should be left that way and not over explained or fleshed out.

    • @Uptomyknees
      @Uptomyknees  Год назад +5

      People didn’t want lord of the rings adapted into a movie. People didn’t want invasion of the body snatchers to be remade in the 70s. Movies are just media, there’s always room for reinvention and re-mixing, and honestly if cocaine bear, which looks unbelievably cheap regardless of how good it might be, is a high watermark it’s the system that has the problem, not the artists.

    • @TheKeggie
      @TheKeggie Год назад +3

      @@Uptomyknees I agree that all Art can be reinterpreted and re-examined across generational, societal and cultural changes.
      Cocaine Bear is a re-imagining of an actual event, taking it to an extreme place which is why viewers had such a positive reaction to its trailer and its projected to open with a $17 million dollar weekend.
      it'd be great to read your interpretation of "An American Werewolf in London" but i guess the point i was making is that the film will survive in its original form for future generations to discover for the first time whether its ever re-made or not.
      As you obviously know, John Landis did write a sequel Script to "An American Werewolf in London" which has never been released for public consumption to my knowledge. Now you adapting that script would really excite me and fans of the original film as we know you'd bring your own artistic sensibilities to his original vision of how the sequel should have played out.
      For instance, the way Screenwriter Eric Heisserer approached The Thing (2011) is how i personally think an original masterwork should be explored. Not just remaking but taking the opening of that Original as its end point and writing a prequel for it was a brilliant idea. Unfortunately the finished film didn't deliver but i'll always give it credit for trying to explore the world of The Thing without re-writing the rules of the original work.

    It's not just British people who "hate Americans" it's a worldwide thing. His version of the film sounds terrible, his daddy already made a good version of it, we don't need to see his son's cringe worthy version of the film.👍

  • @MalcolmT-89
    @MalcolmT-89 9 месяцев назад

    The original film is perfect. It doesn't need a remake. The story is perfectly streamlined and straight to the point. Max's version sounds like the ADHD edition. Too many deviations to focus on things that don't add or enhance the story in any way. Like that younger ginger character he talks about, sounds annoying and distracting. And that's the problem, this need to give more screen time or purpose to ideas that disrupt the flow of the story.
    Also, why does Max hate David so much that he wants to turn him into an unsympathetic arsehole. Defeats the tragedy of the story. I always thought the character of David in the original film was an okay guy just reacting how anyone in that situation would, total disbelief that this was actually happening. It's only after the first transformation he realises Jack was right and comes to terms that he has to die.
    I'll be honest I don't care about character's backstories when you have a horror movie, this isn't a drama piece. You don't need to flesh out every single character. You can write interesting characters without giving too much away. I don't need to know their whole life story, just to know enough about them. Besides, I don't want David being a cheating arsehole. I'm sick and tired of this trend of tearing down original characters and reinventing them as 'flawed' but 'improved' versions. No, not improved but very flawed writing.
    I like Max's original stories, stick to those. We need original stories. People are sick of remakes. A remake implies that the original can be improved. That is an insult to his father and the many talented people who worked on that film. I'm glad this version never happened and let's hope any other planned attempt doesn't see the light of day either.
