- Fix for LDS Error 1, when LDS stopped working: Need a screwdriver and a USB cable.
Steps for solution with video timeline:
01:05 - Disassemble Roborock S50 upper lid and remove the screws where you will find LDS motor
01:04 - Then remove it carefully from Xiaomi Robo Vacuum Cleaner
02:33 - Cut the USB cable towards the connection end and will find 4 coloured wires
03:14 - Join the black and red coloured wires of LDS motor with same coloured wires of USB
03:40 - Connect the USB to a USB port (laptop OR power bank)
04:00 - LDS should start rotating and keep it in rotation for 20 -30 secs

I have tried many ways to find Xiaomi robot vacuum troubleshooting, but found out this is the best possible way to fix Xiaomi Roborock sensor problem. Have browsed many videos online but could not find a solution to Xiaomi laser distance sensor malfunction. I was about to order a new LDS sensor spare part for S50 Roborock online and it was then, I just wanted to give it a last try.
And this worked like a charm without a doubt as you can see in the video here, about the LDS error fix.
I would recommend this solution for getting your Xiaomi Roborock sensor fixed. Just try this solution before you make other choices like Xiaomi LDS replacement, which is expensive.

Thank you for sharing! It worked on the first attempt. People... to disassemble Roborock S50 upper lid, you have to force a little bit (pull up the fixed lid part). Don't be afraid...you (probably) won't broke it :-D (May I suggest that you lower the volume of the music? It cover your voice sometimes) 👌

Thankyou for posting this video, very helpful. The stripped usb cable to laptop was an easy way to charge the motor. The vacuum is cleaning the house now. I'll update if it stops working again in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed its all good...
It lasted about a week before stopped again. I used the same repair a few more times while waiting for a new motor in the post. Now replaced motor and it's not had any more problems. Helpful video but for me a temporary fix.

Awesome. It does work. I tried removing and putting back the sensor head multiple times and after every time, it did work, for about 5 minutes, then again it stoped working. Then I tried THIS IN THE VIDEO, and IT WORKED !!!!!

Thanks man, this really does work......... I have no idea why, but it does. Soldered 2 wires to the motor, and first tried hooking it to an USB power adapter as I didn't want to risk a PC/Laptop, however although the motor worked - it did not work when I put it back in the unit. Then I hooked it to the front USB on my PC, and after another test - it worked inside the roborock unit as well. Damn.

*Difficulty 2/10*: Worked exactly as described, w/ older mini usb, red & black cables only. Tried to plugin to wall via adaptor and didn't work. After reattaching the wires, plugged to laptop, it worked! *ANYONE* with a small phone / laptop repair kit can do this. Tip: strip quite a bit of of the red / black insulation casing from the cables, so you've got plenty of slack.
The only thing that has happened out of the ordinary, just prior to this LDS error 1, is that when the vac didn't get placed on the charger properly and caused the battery to totally drain. Even though, I recharged before using, seems something changed. How's that for anecdotal? Thank you very much taking the time to show us how to fix, saving us a lot of money. Cheers!

If you had only had the cleaner 3 months before it gave you trouble , were you not covered by manufacturers warranty ?
In fact yes, it was under warranty then. But the problem is that I ordered it from Gearbest in UK and got it shipped from China to an US address and had it delivered to India. So, for all the practical reasons that I cannot ship it back to UK or China and there is no service available in India, I had no choice but to look out for such an alternative.

The laser, thought a little high in price compared to motor. Bcoz LDS motor is not working all ways as Serene Teng commented above and I heard from few others. But you can still try.
Thank you so much the solution worked for my roborock S5 error 1. However, before and after error 1, I was and am getting error 8 (remove obstacles). I think there is some problem with right wall sensor as it get stuck very often at right side
i just fixed mine with this solution! The hardest part was stripping wire of the USB cord. Otherwise, the rest was a breeze!
Had the same issue and if by doing this it doesn't work you need to replace the little motor. Worked for mine

I fixed mine the other day with a 9v battery to jump start the motor, works fine now (also cleaned the spindles etc).

If the motor does not run even though powerbank is providing the power - motor is completely dead right? Can i just buy any similar sized 5v motor and replace it?
It did not last for me. I fixed it eventually, by drop a few drops of oil on the brass bearing of LSD driving motor. I tried to restart it by driving it with 6V dc supply, but it only worked for a few minutes. After adding oil, it worked for 4 hours already and a new motor is on the way.

I have the same thing. To contact customer support its impossible. I think you need to buy a new LDS on there website.

Thanks for your comment. Obsolescence is inevitable with every electronic product, just that we are not sure when. People would not choose to upgrade/buy if the same product/spares works forever and thats how they run their businesses, I believe.
