Super Deluxe Edition includes 13 180-gram LPs + DVD Lacquers cut by Bernie Grundman Limited time audio-only album download included DVD contains complete, previously unreleased 1987 New Year's benefit concert film Prince's final performance of the Sign O' The Times Tour stage show, on-stage with Miles Davis!
One of the greatest albums of all time!!
Yess sir!! I'm glad someone agrees, I've seen where when it first released, it didn't get good stats. Talk about crazy. 😂🤣🥰🤷♀️💜💜💜
Easily one of the 10 greatest studio albums of all time, imho .... 8-)
Saw Prince 17 times. My first was with The Revolution in 1985 and my 17th was in February 2016. He was a God onstage. One of my favorites! Thanks for unboxing.
Michael Schirmer That’s amazing you got to see him from the 80s to his last year performing live.
I’m sure it will be for all the tracks on the box set
I saw Prince live 3 times. Where i live, he only toured 4 times. Kicked myself for missing the "Piano & Microphone" tour though. R.I.P. to the G.O.A.T.
I only saw him 3 times, but he was amazing every time. Prince is a God and I had to import a copy of the album here myself as its not being sold in New Zealand due to communist suppliers.
@@Moneytane1976 From one Prince fan to another, are you serious about communist suppliers ? I'm not doubting your story, but how could people be like that in 2020 ? Anyway you got it & that was really counts. Peace 2 U PrinceTane 76
Camera person: as handsome as the page-turner is, we'd luv to see the book's pages up close while they're being turned. 💜
Lol right!!!!
That's all I was hoping for
Love how Mike paid homage to Minnesota in how he first said "mega box set." Prince would be proud.
Great that they include the Utrecht show. I was born and raised in Utrecht and i was there, that night, in the Galgenwaard stadium. One of the best concerts i ever witnessed!
Still have my SOTT vinyl album from 1987. And the 12” vinyl singles La La La and Shockadelica.
💙😎
Once I get this shutting out the world for 6 months.
That's my current state listening to the CD VERSION I just received... 💜💜💜💜
All the pictures and info included in the book alone is worth the price.. the photos are amazing bright brilliant pics. I cant say enough about this collection.. please if you're a lover of Prince like I am.. get it. Either version LP/DVD or Cd/DVD.. awesome and you wont regret it. 💜💜💜💜💜💜 I thank God we were here to witness Prince first hand
1990 - vinyl was sooooo unloved. All the stores were having sidewalk sales to ditch their remaining vinyl. I got Sign of the Times SEALED for a buck. Also picked up Iron Maidens debut sealed for a buck. By 1991, most chain record stores had ditched vinyl completely. Strawberries still had a row, but midyear 91, they ditched it too. Never in a million years, did I EVER think a comeback was possible
Luckily I kept my vinyl , it sat on a shelf in the way and ignored for over 20 years . I’ve ditched most of my cds now , got a new turntable and adding to my collection again.
Same as you I never thought it’d come back.
I wish I’d kept buying them in the 90s .
@@Love_Street Everything comes back in trends, Fashion, cars, music format. You get my drift ? I too many dived back into vinyl ( love the analog sound ) I also have hundreds of CD's but not getting rid of them. In 10 years, CD's might come back ha ha.
Yes I remember going to charity shops in the 90s and picking up some incredible albums for less than £3. Limited edition coloured vinyl too. Why did people fall for the great con of CDs and give all their albums away? Now if you buy CDs they are almost worthless. Nobody wants them second hand unless they're at super low prices in charity shops and even those don't sell.
I wish I lived in the UK in the early 90s, could have got a few more years out of vinyl. Always hated buying CDs, but after 91, you had no choice
Song Shed and how about the awful artwork in a lot of those jewel cases no info or lyrics etc. and they were around 20$ too.
I am glad they put so much love into this.
Looks beautiful!
Nice job by the cameraman. Staying on a wide shot of you, while you flip through pages in the book. (*eye-roll*)
One of THE best unboxing episodes ever. Comprehensive and informative review. Plus, the beautiful records in the background puts the cherry on top. I must shop there. 😳😍
I want this so so badly. This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. I really loved watching this as I can't see myself spending the money to get this.
Yeah.. just a little too expensive.. but man do I want it.
So cruel for me to watch this because I'd love that box set but can't afford it!
AMAZING! knew i could count on you guys for this unboxing. best record store in Phoenix! 💜
Prince was one Hell of a showman! Saw him on the Musicology Tour in 2004 @ the Garden in Boston. So glad my brother and I had the opportunity to see him live! Lovely box set, however, too much for my wallet. I think I'll purchase the remaster with the single edits.
I think I'm going to have to get the LP version aswell... I'm so impressed with this unboxing.. 💜💜💜💜🔥💜💜💜💜🔥💜💜💜💜🔥💜💜💜💜🔥💜💜💜💜
Such a great unboxing video. Bought this set based on this video
Mike that box set looks fabulous. I have the Emancipation one, I love the fact that they are re-releasing all of his stuff. I’m waiting for them to start to release the MadHouse stuff, which is Prince’s all Jazz series. Prince has a fair number of very hard to come by stuff because he would release an album on the internet or allow you to buy it and bam, it would be gone. This was one of Prince’s better selling albums. I always wondered why Prince’s albums sounded so good now we know why Bernie Grundmen.
Prince’s had a lot of stuff that didn’t sell well or wasn’t commercially successful, but unlike other artist, he really didn’t care. Prince made music for himself and if you didn’t get it or bought it, that was on you, he didn’t care, which is probably why him and Miles Davis got along so well, they were both extremely cocky, but great at what they did and Miles didn’t care what people thought or if they bought his albums as he went through many transitions.
It was fitting to have a Miles Davis collaboration on this album because Miles Davis didn’t respect many artist and I don’t think he would have done this for a lot of people, but he did have nothing negative ever to say about Prince and he admired him. Heck Mikes switched record labels as well and both fought with their labels and both men put out a ton of material, some material great and some not so much, but neither cared what anyone thought, they both did music for themselves until neither could do it anymore.
Two great men gone way too soon. There was no retirement, there was only living life itself for the music and past it, both of them left us tons of material, with Prince, tons of never heard stuff or stuff only on cd, to be released on vinyl and some that has been released on vinyl and other stuff to be released in the future. This makes me think about why great bands like the Beatles and Pink Floyd, while not putting out nearly as much material, put out much better quality material and then broke up because they just couldn’t do it anymore.
Prince did it literally to the end. He was a very secretive guy who didn’t do or trust doing interviews a lot unless he controlled the narrative. I believe that Prince had about 33-35, but maybe closer to 33 albums out with plenty of stuff left in his vault to be released. He was a showman and one of the greatest musicians and entertainers in the world. His riff with Warner Brothers was legendary it in the end he won and got his freedom back. Thanks for doing this Mike, I’ll probably buy the box set.
Frank Zappa did the same thing. When he wasn't touring he was spending all his time recording. His family has been releasing 1-2 albums per year since he died.
Looking forward to the Madhouse pair, too (or three, if they really go all-out). Having those thematically-designed Richard Litt / Maneca Lightner images in full album size will be a treat.
@@c11p Very glad that
I bought both the albums on vinyl and 12"singles.
I seriously doubt any of his side projects or proteges will get remasters or even rereleases. The Madhouse albums sold poorly when first released and most people wouldn't even know that Prince wrote & played on those albums, so I can't see the Prince estate investing time and money into these projects. Maybe a "The Time" 4 album boxset with bonus B sides and remixes as they are his most legendary & commercially viable creation. (Only Sheila E's first album was mega successful, the last 2 on Paisley Park records were chart failures). The Prince estate will concentrate on releasing his 80s catalogue first as super deluxe remastered editions and continue just re releasing his post Warner brothers albums (no remasters, single edits, remixes, live or vault tracks). These albums didn't sell well when first released so Sony isn't going to spend money on high quality super deluxe sets like Warner Brothers are with his 80's catalogue. Maybe we will get 2 80s era Prince super deluxe releases a year as Sony gains the distribution rights to all Prince's Warner Brothers era albums in 2021 except the movie soundtracks: Purple Rain, Parade, Batman & Graffiti Bridge.
@@brianinglis3805 Right. And even though the The Family's only album was a massive commercial dud upon its release, it has since become a highly coveted, hard-to-find collector's item, especially desirable among hardcore Prince fans. Any original copies that can be found now tend to go for stupid amounts of money on the secondary market. Thus, it would be nice to see a remastered 180 gram reissue (or even a straight, non-remastered 140g pressing) of that one, even if it doesn't necessarily get the deluxe/super deluxe treatments.
Love the packaging. Now I want one. My wallet will be hurting as I want the CD format too lol
It comes with a download so you can save some coins unless you just want the cd packaging too...
I want the CD format .... I thought sure our Barnes and Nobles would have it, as they had the 1999 and Purple Rain Deluxes .... but they didn't ... so I haven't been able to verify how much the CD format retails for .... :/

Inclusion of digital downloads is a game changer! When this box was announced I actually wrote to the official Prince store to ask whether the vinyl version came with downloadable tracks - they said "no"!!!
Thanks, great video! 💜
Thank you for doing a deep dive into this box set. I don't own a record player but was considering getting one. This might be the album to get me to take the plunge. If I do, I'm ordering it from you. Thanks again for showing it off!
great unboxing! beautiful lookin' store too
Thanks for unboxing. GOD bless

Box set of the year, hands down. 💯
Looks great thanks for sharing it with us! Probably to much $$ for me, Enjoyed the video
Wow!!! Thanks for doing this
Absolutely fucking stunning. Just an incredible set. I just ordered this thanks to your video. I don't even have a record player.
id like to come sit on your store all weekend to listen to this... but im in australia :(
I was there at the concert in Utrecht on June 20th. The best show I ever witnessed (okay Lovesexy '88 as well). Fantastic box set and with that concert officially on it a dream come through!
wow, big piece of history...

Damn! I would love to own this.

Love your store layout and video presentations. When I visit Arizona, I will make sure I visit your store.
I need this in my life!!! My first album I owned on cassette heehee..my fave!!!
Holy moly!! Definitely worth the purchase..how much?? Lol yikes 😬
I've got the original 1987 double LP and I got Limited Deluxe 3 CD Edition yesterday. Hopefully "Around the World in a Day" (1985) and "Parade" (1986) will be remastered with bonus audio material sometimes in the future.
Nice review/unboxing. That crunching sound made me a bit crazy, tho!
Super video thanks 4 showing it all very cool design of the whole record i will buy the CD Box peace from germany MB
I used to collect Prince LPs then I donated them cuz they took up space in my home etc. but after seeing this I might get the LP version. LOL. I don't even have a record player anymore. I probably just keep it as collector's item.
Miss the comparison videos. Do you have any planned soon??
Another Fantastic video. Thanks:)
Damn.....I preordered from Amazon on 6/25 and still haven’t received my package 🤔
Me too. Refreshing every ten minutes! :D
I pre ordered 3 months ago from an Australian retailer and they sent me an email saying the supplier (I am assuming from the US) can't deliver until a week after it was supposed to be released & then can't even guarantee that date. Covid 19 a sign "o" the times, mess with yo mind.
@@mrcakey3704 And I’m STILL WAITING 😡
This is incredible. But man, it makes you think, would Prince have wanted this?
Exactly. I'm pretty sure there's a reason (his own) that we haven't heard any of this before now. But.. hey.. whatever
grimble You have a good point. Music and business dogs always find a way to unravel hidden and sometimes supposed-to-be hidden songs. I’d like to think not only for Prince but for other artists that there would be legalities and ownership that would be held by people who can be trusted. By the way, what makes you say Prince sabotaged his career??
I think he liked the high quality of the releases and the amount of love put into this.
Mine is on the way in the mail, you can watch the DVD concert on his RUclips channel now. I miss this man so much, saw him in concert 7 times and went to 3 after shows. I have been to many other concerts in my lifetime but only Prince concerts had a mesmerizing feeling. All eyes were on him constantly, not wanting to miss anything. Other concerts were more about a social gathering and interacting with each other. Prince concerts all eyes were focused on him the whole time, no one was interested in each other, we were just watching Prince and cheering and doing whatever he said to do.
Thank you for this video!
I wish Michael Jackson's estate would do such a great job as Prince's.
@Tony There are good finished songs left, not as many as Prince tho. They could release this kind of boxset for Dangerous album 25th anniversary in 2016. This year its 25th of History album, that would be great, cause of the lyrics being really relevant now, but i guess they didnt do that this year cause of the enviroment around MJ. I hope they'll do some of that, once the court cases are dealt with.
@Tony him not playing instruments has nothing to do with it, he has a lot or great unreleased songs. Some of them were released on Bad 25 album, 2014 Xscape album. Also a lot of them leaked or were included in greatest hits compilations when he was alive. Some great unreleased songs of his are: Someone put your hand out, We've gad enough, For all time, On the line, Beautiful girl. I suggest checking them out.
@Tony and MJ wrote over 100 songs for every album
@Tony what are u talking about? Michael Jackson has tons of unreleased music u can find on RUclips and most of it is pretty good. In 2004 he released the ultimate collection and it had a bunch of unreleased demos and songs and it was great. There's even an original version of Thriller called Starlight u can find on here
@Tony yeah that's just some straight up A grade bullshit. They recorded 800 songs for thriller alone. Michael could play the piano but not proficient. Still outsold everybody with a just a few albums.
Still waiting for mine!!
Hurry before it’s 2 late!! ☮️
I have an original 1987 pressing of this album, but it's from a record club.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for this lovely display. I’m getting this for my birthday. I’m so glad the Prince estate has been sorted out so that we could get these wonderful releases.
Can you please comment on the sound quality on these LPs?
The general consensus is that this remaster is excellent.
Thanks for the video
I really want this but I am not sure I'll spring for the vinyl. I might get the CD version though.
Thanks man, totally awesome, a MUST-HAVE for Prince fans and music lovers alike! O(+> 4ever

Great unboxing thank you!
Thanks Mike for going through the unboxing. All these photos of the master tapes begs the question, are these for show, or are any of these records an all analog mastering? or just a Grundman digital masterpiece?
Partner she has hers loves it
Alot of B sides on this too you forgot to mention 🙏
you might want to look into getting a button up "the 'in' groove" shirt so you can place the lav mic below the beard :)
An incredible set but I can't quite justify it, amazing for hardcore fans though. Why is it not a blu ray though?
It probably wasn't shot in HD at that time.
Jamal Blakk no for sure of course, but there’s plenty of old films on blu ray. You get a lab to work on increasing the resolution etc. I’m just saying for $300+ , they should have sorted that.
I would like to know the measures of the box in centimeters.
It is over 8 hours of music.
Not my favourite P album but still tempted as looks so cool
Nice video and you look nice with your beard

The download code, is it for all albums in the box set or just the actual SOTT record?
This is the one thing I would also like to clarify before buying the vinyl box. I'm tempted to play safe and go with the CD box, but I'll upgrade to vinyl if there are downloads for *all* tracks (I don't care about the format).
Got the box set yesterday, the Mp3s are all the tracks in the box set
All the tracks.. downloaded
Too many great vinyl releases. Just bought the replacements inconcerated, Tom pertty wildflowers (deluxe 7lp box set) and a rare European re release of soul asylums let your dim light shine. The prince sign o times is next on my list.
Got one! LP 2 is horribly warped...
💜
Who has a record player??
does anyone know which sleeves are best to use for the records?
Where is this boxset pressed? USA or Europe?
What’s a DVD? Lol. At least a Blue Ray if not a 4K. I’m assuming the source material was LoFi, but I would hope they would clean it up for Blue Ray
Christian Garcia yeah I’m disappointed it’s DVD format
What other Prince albums have gotten this kind of box treatment?
1999
Purple Rain as well, just not as extensive.
Is the original movie included?
No they don't own rights
Are the live in Ultrecht tracks only SotT tracks or is it a full concert?
Full show, some older tracks too
3 new albums not 5

No need for a CD edition! Might as well get it digitally, download or streaming!
No CD edition.
There sure is a cd edition, not everyone wants vinyl but wants a physical copy of CD box set and the book!
There is a 8CD & DVD Edition also. Same content.
@@analoguecity3454 This is a flat out bad opinion
¡Y tanto!
What a joke
The most HORRIBLE excuse to steal money from a dead talent... 90% of the crappy vault copies are from the Parade sessions...wrong album, wrong mix, with the wrong collection... Disc 4-6 should have been on the Parade remastered.... This was a big disappointment and seemed like a huge book with a small amount of crappy photos to try to make up for a non-existent album.... It still sounds muffled and poorly mixed.. The WORST estate release yet!!!!
