Have to agree with you on this lens. I like mine so much I bought it a body ... I use this lens on nearly every video i shoot. The focal length range covers all my normal needs, have a couple of primes to cover the rest of my needs.Good show!
Love this video man. Thanks for the time and effort you must have put in to create it. I currently have an a6400 with the Sigma 16mm 1.4 and was about to purchase the 56mm 1.4. However, looking at the versatility of having a zoom when running and gunning, OSS and a continuous F4 when zooming in and out, I think this wins. I just have to save a little more, but it will be worth it I think. Thanks again Bro. I am already one of your subscribers. Peter.
Thanks for watching! Glad you found the video helpful. Yeah the 18-105 is a great lens. I haven't gotten a chance to use the Tamron 17-70 2.8 yet. But that would be another option to check out as well.
Nice video my friend! This lens is my go to for almost everything I shoot. It’s permanently mounted on my a6000. Take a moment and just look at the specs: internal focusing and zooming, OSS, full metal construction, fully silent motor, aspherical design, approximately x6 zoom range and native APSC with G(old) badge. And then the price: I bought it last year for 519€, brand new! Make no mistake, I used a lot of camera gear in the past (mostly Canon FF and L series lenses) but I think Sony rules in mirrorless market and the primary reason is their lenses. The 18-105 f4 along with its ZEISS badged sibling, the 16-70 f4 are the perfect examples of value for money. Fujifilm doesn’t have zoom lenses like those both in terms of quality and prices. The only serious drawback I can find in the 18-105 f4 is its bad image quality at infinity focus. It’s just bad! And the strange thing is the fact that when you focus from MFD to 25 meters the sharpness is outstanding (it even matches my Zeiss primes in many cases). So for me is a great lens for portrait, street or any close up scenario but for landscape you must be aware of the focus point if you want the best quality. My fix for this is to use a tripod and change to MF. Then use the on screen distance scale and focus somewhere nearer than 25m, setting an aperture to f/8 or narrower.
Purchased this lens to use on my A6500 with the Weebill Lab. Your amazing videos using the lens and gimbal combo inspired me! Can you share your settings for this combo? Is the gimbal motor setting on high? What about the finer motor settings (axis, pan, etc.)? Any other tips on using the 18-105 with the Lab? Thanks!
Hey, glad you like the videos!! I really don't have to adjust anything on the Weebill with this combo. It just kinda works. Especially since the zoom is internal, it doesn't throw off the gimbal. So yeah just balance it and start shooting.
Thanks for watching. That’s a tough decision. Coming from those two lenses you may have some concerns with the f4 aperture. But it would depend on what you’re shooting. If you’re not doing too much low light situations, you may like the flexibility of having that much range in one setup. If you’re in a face scenario it can be really beneficial. And you can get some nice compression with the tighter focal lengths.
great video... pls can u kindly tell me how good is the low light performance of this lens? .. I will do night street photography ... and how is the sharpness in broad daylight for landscapes ?'... would be happy if you reply 💙
My focus is mainly on video. But you can see how it performs in a dark bar in this other video here: ruclips.net/video/57C8T2D66q8/видео.html when I was comparing it to the RX100. For street photography you may be able to get away with it by pumping up the ISO. However, dependinig on how well lit your city is, you may want to opt for something faster like the Sigma leenses, or even the Sony 16-55 2.8.
This lens work great in night street photography and you can lower the shutter speed as the less has OSS. I try shooting hand held with shutter at 1/13 and ISO auto reading at 320. It was 10pm and only the street lights were on and that too were at a distance. I love this lens. And every time when I go for street photography I pick up this lens.
Great video, thank you!! BTW what’s the price when you bought it?? I remembered it was about $550, but now it’s 650 US dollars on Sony website.... that’s kinda annoying
Yes, definitely! The only issue you may run into is the low light performance indoors at a wedding/social event. However, you can still pump the ISO on the 6400 fairly high and still get a usuable image.
@@CreativeTechLab Thanks, maybe one more question..what is real battery life on sony a6400 when shooting video at 1080p and 4k? i watched a lot of videos but the is no clear conclusion after watching them
Definitely. The 105 is equivalent to about 158 on the long end and you can get even more than that with clear image zoom. And the f4 aperture is good enough outdoors. Coupled with the blazing fast autofucs on the new a6000 line of cameras, it would be an awesome choice.
Thanks, man. This was very helpful. I'm switching to an a6600 from Canon and I'm trying to figure out what glass to buy. I think I'll start with this lens and the Sigma 16/1.4 and build from there. SUBSCRIBED!
get an a6400 and use that money on the lens. they're are practical same sensor and processor. same camera. And you're paying $400-500 + tax less. Use that money for a better len or a set of sigma lens.
Hey thanks for watching. Yes that's on the a6400. You can see more of that here: ruclips.net/video/57C8T2D66q8/видео.html in a comparison I did of the a6400 to the RX100. And here's one more clip here from another video as well: ruclips.net/video/Izvme9sm4IY/видео.html But long story short is the OSS definitely makes the vlog footage usable on the a6400.
@@CreativeTechLab absolute legend bro, you even gave the timestamps! Yeah that footage is totally usable! And I don't see the 18mm being all that tighter than the 16mm. Yeah, you might need the extra extension like a joby 3k but still great! I can't get over how nice and smooth the look of your videos are. So nice!
Not sure why that would be. But the camera should tell you what setting is preventing it from working. Like if you were shooting RAW photos it will tell you that the feature doesn't support that setting.
Thanks for watching. TBH I take far more video than stills, I typically shoot wide open. However in my small amount of tests and what I've seen from othe creators, things start to look good around F7. But I guess that's all subjective. I do use a VND. On this lens I have a Gobe. But I also really like Hoya.
I’m literally filming a video about this now. But yes. If the you’re going to be vlogging the 16mm will be your lens. It’s the most versatile of the 3. And if video is what you’ll mainly be shooting, clear image zoom will give exactly what you need.
Creative Tech Lab so a good choice!? 16mm for vlogging/clear image zoom for low light & the 18-105 f4 for a versatile zoom lens?? My Dude Bless you! Gracias!!
Thanks for watching. Yes I would! With the crop it gives you almost a 135mm look. The compression is really awesome and the bokeh is amazing. Really great for events. The only drawback is at the focal length, the lack of IBIS is really apparent. However it's not that big of a drawback.
That's a tough question. I think it would depend on the situation to be honest. If the environment and shoot were more predictable and I was able to move around to get my angles, I'd take the Sigma every time. For events, travel, and more fast moving shoots, then I'd say this lens
