Thank you for the kind words Gary. Unlike many of today's products, thes bicycles literally outlive their original owners. They are simple and sturdy. Heavy? Yes. But the way I see it, that's more excersise per distance. Happy wheels!
Hi Nick. Part of the process is to select the right project. One that has original paint. The paint on these can usually be brought back to life by purchasing a sample compound kit at your local automotive store. The chrome cleans up will using steel wool of various grades. I thrilled to know that there are other people out there that appreciate classic bicycles. UK is home of Sunbeam, Raleigh, Sturmey Archer, etc. I've seen some fine projects on Ebay. If I only lived in the UK!
Hello! Such a nice and nostalgic video to watch! I am an old bicycle enthusiast from Indonesia, one of my dream bicycle is the one from Japan such as Maruka bicycle. Thankyou for making this video!
@Ryoichiwatanabe Hi there. Glad you enjoyed the video. Also happy to hear you are into cycling it is ecological. economical and good exercise. Unfortunately, my specialty is rod brake bicycles from the 1950's and I'm not familiar with 90's bicycles. But plenty of people out there with the same interest that are able to share information. Happy wheels!
Hi there. Thank you for your kind words. The saddle bag is original tube type saddle bag which fits between the rings in that saddle. These tube type were popular in the 1950's. It was purchased on Yahoo auction used but in good gondition.
Hi there. Thanks for the kind words. You say you have a Hattori? Yes, it is a vintage Japanese bicycle manufacturer that had its operations in the city of Osaka. And it says "King Homerun"? My guess is that on the head badge or elsewhere there is a baseball with crossed baseball bats. Yes, it would be a genuine Hattori Works bicycle. Feel free to send me detailed photos and I will try to help verify your bicycle. Ride with pride and happy wheels!
@Microglia1 For Japan ,early to mid 1950s. Nichibei Fuji, Yamaguchi, Mayam, Miyata, and many more. UK around 1920's(?) Sunbeam, Ralleigh (?) Germany I'm not well enough informed to have an opinion. Interesting question.
Great video! It made me wonder if the really old bike I have is Japanese. Have you ever heard of Hattori Works? On the tire it says manufactured for Kyokko Kasei. I can't find a serial number but there is a hand painted 22 on the seat post. It also says HTR King Homerun.
Awesome! Yes it does have a baseball with crossed bats. Do you have an email address you want me to post pictures to? or do you want me to post them on here? (not sure how to) Thanks so much.
Hi thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, decals (stickers) like these are not sold anywhere, at least to the best of my knowledge anyway. The stickers (decals) in the video are all original. Good luck with your MERKUR restoration.
Unable to post links here, but my email address is at the end of the video (5:52). Or, search for my blog Vintage Japanese Bicycles my email address is in the profile. Hope to hear from you soon.
you did such a beautiful job on the restoration of this bike , it inspired me to find one.
