I'm teaching a mindfulness for bjj seminar today and part of it will be breathwork. I'm watching videos to keep me in the mindset and so I came across this and it's EXACTLY what I was teaching today. Makes me feel like we're on to something. Thanks for sharing!
Recently started BJJ and was gassing out quickly but then came across your channel for yoga and stretching which started helping while rolling. However, now finding these breathing techniques, I’ve been practicing them to and from work. After the last couple days rolling I am starting to notice a bit of a difference in lasting longer. I absolutely appreciate your channel and content. Thank you!
My chiropractor suggested I check this breathing technique. Wow was I in for a surprise. Thank you for the calmness in your voice and your coaching. Was a bit harder to inhale for the 10sec n up. Holding no problem just the inhaling …..so I learned to inhale slower that way I get more calmness with it too! Thank you
Thank you for these breathing techniques. It really helped clear my mind, relieved stress and I felt calm and relaxed!!!! Especially needed and useful!!!!! ❤🎉❤
Wow first intro to breathwork, felt very concentrated. Will look at other videos im 40 and a year plus into bjj. Was looking for ways to help ribs not be sore 😅
Flo, bro, your classes are fantastic. You guys have helped me to minimize stress, and to get fitter, tighter, and healthier. Looking forward here to seeing what you and Bri will do next. Thank you for everything!
You asked if we might share how we feel doing the 3rd exercise. This is my 3rd time to practice these. I have been doing it at night before going to bed. I’m sleeping better for sure. My experience so far with 3rd exercise is one of enthusiasm. I’m experiencing right away that I have abilities and ways of working with my mind/body that I did not know before. So I’m becoming more curious and I would say I am feeling like I’m meeting myself for the first time….and I’m happy to meet him! It feels a bit like coming home. Thank you.
Thank you, I found this to be a remarkable and enlivening experience. I am not a martial arts practitioner, but I am a meditator, pianist and am teaching myself to play the flute. I have been discovering the need for more breath awareness while playing piano and now with flute it is an unavoidable element!! I found these three breathing practices WONDERFUL and I will use them. I am curious how they will shape me as a musician. Thank you, again. I will also try the tummo breathing you mentioned. Best wishes.
Fantastic follow along sessions! I am finding them immensely helpful, and for once beginning to enjoy breathing practices ...actually being able to breathe and flow 😊😇
I don't practice martial arts but I enjoyed these exercises to start my day. I wonder if I can use them while climbing. I find myself in challenging situations when on the rock, breathing has always helped my focus
I'm a 48 yr old blue belt with COPD. I really need to work on breathing correctly while rolling because sometimes I wonder if it's my COPD effecting me or if I just flat out forget to breathe. I'm getting close to getting my purple and I believe these exercises can help me achieve that.
This is without question a must for me to incorporate into my training. I’m one who use to and occasionally struggle with the breathing aspect. Most definitely will take up your advice. One thing I didn't realise with the Ujjayi breathing was I’ve been doing it on the exhale portion only and NOT on the inhale. And yes, I was sounding a bit like Darth Vader- lol. Oddly too I found Sama Vritti a little more challenging than Visama Vritti. Finally as you instruct to inhale and exhale during both Sama and Visama Vritti, I take it one should be do applying the correct form of Ujjayi and not simply in and exhale? Really appreciated this video. Thank you 🙏🏽
Do all breathing exercises as described in this video and for a deep dive watch the individual breakdown of each technique in the videos linked description 🙏🏽 it all comes with correct practice ✌️
Thank you for this lesson. Breathe control is one of my jits goals. Any advice on “catching” your breathe? Specifically transition from guard to getting guard passed, catching your breathe, to refocus and regain guard/escape.
Wow who knew just breathing was so hard. Thank you for this video, I’m always gassing while I roll, it’s like you were talking about me at the start of this video😂😂😂 I know this is gonna help my rolling
really appreciate all your (BJJ specific) content on this channel brother! This may be "too specific" a request, but any input on what poses can be done with recently sustained (yet manageable) injuries to ankle/elbow/wrist etc.? I appreciate Yoga for the restorative, ROM-enhancing and meditative effects but find it strongly inhibited (esp. my balance) when I carry an occasional, manageable yet not insignificant injury.
first heal the injury, possibly with professional help and then get back to movement. all classes will help your recovery and improve movement capabilities.
check in how you're doing and how your energy levels are. you can always meditate, do some gentle breathwork and move in a gentle way. you decide on the intensity.
Hi Flo, I was wondering if I was too short for the breathing techniques. Could you tell me how tall you are? You seem quite tall. With love and gratitude, namaste!
Hi Flo I've got a question. I train BJJ at a Rickson Gracie's and now also a bit of yoga through your channel. I've found that with a lot of movements, yoga and BJJ seem to oppose eachother when it comes to breathing. When I bridge in BJJ for instance, I am taught to exhale on the movement, whereas when bridging during yoga, we breathe in while raising the hips. What are your thoughts on that?
@@BreatheAndFlow Okay, you do this also when rolling? Following that logic it would make sense to exhale during a shrimp, and inhale during a bridge. Correct?
I’m diving deeper into that in the individual breakdowns of the techniques. Ujjayi all day. Sama vritti at least ten rounds. Vishama vritti also at least ten. For the bonus one I recommend you watch the video on it 🙏🏽
I have a question: When I practice the 2nd and 3rd of these exercises do I use the same technique of “fogging up the mirror” for those as well? Thank you.
so do you count when rolling? or is it more like in the choke hold, you're able to hold your breath more easily and then when you exhale you explode to escape? cos i think i'd completely forget to count haha
you're training your breath when practicing and counting but of course when you roll you don't count. your breath then is automatically slower and perhaps buys you time to escape or do sth else.
What level of Patreon would I find Jiu-Jitsu specific yoga, breathing&meditation practice. I also need help with shoulder and hip flexibility. Thank you for all your videos 🙏
none, that's all for free here on youtube in the yoga for bjj playlist in addition to the 250 other classes we have here. they'll all benefit your bjj.
@@BreatheAndFlow ok thank you. Your BJJ for hips is great. I’ll be trying those shoulder routines on the regular to help with my Jiu-Jitsu and day to day aches.
I'm trying to learn belly breathing to improve my cardio while rolling. Belly breathing while sitting is pretty easy but as soon as the roll starts the body goes back to the old , bad habits of chest breathing and mouth gasping for air. Do you have any suggestions on how to train and master this breathing while rolling? The conscious brain can only do one thing at a time and mine is too busy thinking about position and submissions and forgets to breath this way. How do I make it come naturally without thinking about it? Thanks!
Nice content you've got here. ^^. I am actually looking for flow state yoga videos for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of C Wilson Meloncelli Channel? He's been sharing some flow state hacks highlights. Come check him out!
all yoga practice is supporting you to enter a flow state. the flow state is something you create by being fully present not something someone can give you from the outside.

🌌 definitely would recommend this video must watch if you really want to know how to get control of your breathing rituals
This was a very educational video. I like to use the Pranayama app to help me with the timing of the inhale/exhale/hold cues.

Visama Vritti sounds like what I need for my competetion coming up in a couple days
Wow! thanks for all your videos.

Hopefully if I breathe correctly I won't have to catch my breath. Especially having bad lungs.
Thanks for the advice..BJJ life
Very educational, thanks

thank you! 6'2" and 180-185lbs ✌️
Which exercise would you most recommend while rolling?
Awesome 👍

When I bridge in BJJ for instance, I am taught to exhale on the movement, whereas when bridging during yoga, we breathe in while raising the hips. What are your thoughts on that?
on a bridge for example you inhale because you can backbend better when breathing in as the diaphragm is making space for the backbend.

How many rounds a day should we do these breathing exercises

Yes you can, but is not mandatory. See what feels best for you.
@@BreatheAndFlow Excellent, thank you.
I use nasal breathing when I go for a long run.....forces me to run slower keep my heart rate low.

He is the most attractive man ALIVE. And his voice relaxes me.
Is it just me but inhaling during Sama Vritti was the hardest thing to do from it all? Felt almost painful, maybe I’m doing it to intensely (?)
inhale using a normal breath but yes for many slowing down the breath is very challenging. keep it up!
last one ok i made it
