Rob and Matt from Mantic Games join Gerry in the studio to take him through a round of the third edition of Kings of War.
Being a keen enthusiast for previous editions of Kings of War, Gerry is excited to finally get a game of this new third edition of the rank and flank game. Giving an introduction to newer players this round breakdown also highlights the subtle differences between editions and why they were implemented.

This has re-kindled my hobby interest in big table top battles, thank you Mantic.
The guys do it realy good and Gerry is enthusiastic as always. I enjoy how he enjoys wargaming. It's a pleasure see him and the Mantic guys interacting . ☺

GW Exile, here. Got back from second tour in Iraq and found out that all three of my GW armies were no longer supported and literally unplayable. I left the miniature wargaming hobby for several years. Just discovered KoW, and now I am ready to dust off my old figures. Thank you.
Basic but important rule question. If you were charged and are Wavering can you strike back in your Melee phase as you are in contact or not?

I got super interested in Kings of War, I bought the third edition book and loving all the rules, looks alot simpler and to the point than 40k. This will be a nice change of pace but cant wait to start building and painting up my basileans!

Can you play with individual character removal to simulate loses? Or is the entire unit removal sort of set in stone?

So looking at this video is this a game where if you charge you win? I am interested in this game but it just seems who ever charges dumps all the damage and wins, at least from this video. Sadly If that's the case it doesnt look fun.
I can confirm that's not the case, but appreciate from the way this demo played out the combats were very lopsided! Where two more equally matched units fight, or a unit with a lot of nerve is hit, they can hang around for multiple turns, getting to fight back in their own turn. The game is very much about getting the right units into the right fight at the right time, so if you imagine the ogres had played very cunningly to get into the position you see unfold here, that would be the sign of a good general. Instead this was set up as a sort of highlights match giving the ogres a very favourable set up.

Piercing brutal and crushing are all the same rule, why have three keywords?
Just call it deadly + (x) instead of making it confusing with three keywords for literally the same rule no?
