    As a senior cat lady, I'm so happy to see how relaxed your cats are around you. And they obviously LOVE their tree. :D May you & your kitties (& your dog) live long & prosper. ;)

    Awesome cat tree! Looks much better than most I've seen in the store. I'd need a much heavier base though. My cats like to chase each other around the house and tend to knock over anything in their path!

      The ones in the store are garbage and way overpriced

  • @traceynorth9877
    @traceynorth9877 5 месяцев назад +2

    Nicely done. A couple suggestions. You need a second opening in the cat cubby. Cats don't like to feel trapped. It's better if they know they can escape a enclosed area.
    I'd put some more levels on it so the cats don't have to jump so far to move up and down. Easier on the joints. You can add to the tree over time.

    OMG!!! You did that!!! I love how the perch is so large. So many pre-made cat trees seem to be only meant for kittens...but kitten do grow up to be large cats. You put a lot of effort into this one. And the cats love it.. Thank you for this video. Great Job!! I wonder how much you would charge to create a custom cat tree.....its a thought.

    • @johnbarneswood
      @johnbarneswood  4 года назад +3

      Thank you! It really depends on the material. Here I spent roughly $100 in material alone, so I’d probably charge around $150-225 total.

      @@johnbarneswood think I might copy your design. I work in lumber yard n got 2 free sheet plywood today and I already have various lengh 4x4 from work also. I'm just gonna need lil carpet n rope

      @bud too this is to late for you probably but if anyone else sees this comment, you can usually go to a flooring store and ask if they have scrap carpet, back when I was younger working in a flooring warehouse I would constantly be giving away scraps for people building cat towers.
      Got free carpet for my own doing this recently

    It is interesting to see how well you used pieces of carpets to line the MDF. You skipped the time-wasting introductions and jargons used in many “DIY” videos and used time-lapse (“fast forward”) appropriately. The last couple of minutes with the cats in the “tree-house” was icing on the cake! Thanks John for the brilliantly created video.

    I also like woodworking. It would be easier to carpet the base, shelf and cat house before it’s assembled. Brackets could be used to support the shelf and large bolts would be better to secure the base and cat house to the posts. I like the idea of using 4x4 lumber for the posts. Your cats love it. Now to make a Catio for the balcony and a work bench. It is painful working on the floor. Thanks for the video.

      1:14 i like the idea of cutting close to the ground but does it really make clean up easier? i plan on building a bartop arcade cabinet this seems like it would be better than using a work bench

    • @johnbarneswood
      @johnbarneswood  6 лет назад

      It is an easier clean up when cutting on the ground, but the only real reason I did this was because I was building it in my apartment living room. Probably better to cut standing up instead of bending over for hours

    One of the few trees my Siamese wouldn't have destroyed within 6 months. Most are so flimsy, they wouldn't last 6 days! Strength and rigidity are essential when making these. The daily hammering they can get from an active cat is immense.
