As a senior cat lady, I'm so happy to see how relaxed your cats are around you. And they obviously LOVE their tree. :D May you & your kitties (& your dog) live long & prosper. ;)
Awesome cat tree! Looks much better than most I've seen in the store. I'd need a much heavier base though. My cats like to chase each other around the house and tend to knock over anything in their path!
Nicely done. A couple suggestions. You need a second opening in the cat cubby. Cats don't like to feel trapped. It's better if they know they can escape a enclosed area. I'd put some more levels on it so the cats don't have to jump so far to move up and down. Easier on the joints. You can add to the tree over time.
OMG!!! You did that!!! I love how the perch is so large. So many pre-made cat trees seem to be only meant for kittens...but kitten do grow up to be large cats. You put a lot of effort into this one. And the cats love it.. Thank you for this video. Great Job!! I wonder how much you would charge to create a custom cat tree.....its a thought.
@@johnbarneswood think I might copy your design. I work in lumber yard n got 2 free sheet plywood today and I already have various lengh 4x4 from work also. I'm just gonna need lil carpet n rope
@bud too this is to late for you probably but if anyone else sees this comment, you can usually go to a flooring store and ask if they have scrap carpet, back when I was younger working in a flooring warehouse I would constantly be giving away scraps for people building cat towers. Got free carpet for my own doing this recently
It is interesting to see how well you used pieces of carpets to line the MDF. You skipped the time-wasting introductions and jargons used in many “DIY” videos and used time-lapse (“fast forward”) appropriately. The last couple of minutes with the cats in the “tree-house” was icing on the cake! Thanks John for the brilliantly created video.
Sweet, beautiful kitties! I’m so impressed! Great job on the build. I was watching all of the measurements thinking how I would never think of doing it like that…you make it look easy but omg I would be banging my head on the wall. ❤️🙌 👏🏼
Nice job ... VERY nice job ... you paid so much attention to detail. I’ve got 3 cat trees, all retail, and I don’t think a one of them was as well built as yours
Now those are 2 very fat, happy and comfy kitties who love their Daddy even more now! 😍😁 I love how precise every measurement was. High quality craftsmanship relies more on precise measuring and less about slathering everything with glue to hold things together. Keep up the awesome work dude!! 😁😁
Absolutely!! Currently kitting out my big shed into a cat palace for my 4 fluffies. Gunna have comfy af beds, loads of toys, things to climb on and into with a tunnel door leading to a catio area so they can get fresh air safely without being catnapped again!! 😁😁
The speed of this made it a no go for me. No way I’d be able to replicate this. When I saw the thumbnail it was an absolute dream come true for me. I’ve long I hope that I could make something like this but it’s impossible to know how to make one of these.
I also like woodworking. It would be easier to carpet the base, shelf and cat house before it’s assembled. Brackets could be used to support the shelf and large bolts would be better to secure the base and cat house to the posts. I like the idea of using 4x4 lumber for the posts. Your cats love it. Now to make a Catio for the balcony and a work bench. It is painful working on the floor. Thanks for the video.
Really really impressive! Job well done! The best men know their way around tools and are productive like this! Not gonna lie, this made me exhausted just watching. I think I might just purchase one online haha:) I'm not sure as a smaller woman I would have the physical strength to even do this lol. Great video, thanks! God Bless.
1:14 i like the idea of cutting close to the ground but does it really make clean up easier? i plan on building a bartop arcade cabinet this seems like it would be better than using a work bench
It is an easier clean up when cutting on the ground, but the only real reason I did this was because I was building it in my apartment living room. Probably better to cut standing up instead of bending over for hours
Looks Fantastic, Great Job! Just wondering why you didn't carpet everything before you put the hideaway box on the top, wouldn't it have been easier to carpet, before assembled? Super Awesome, I'm impressed, so is your kitty too, I'm sure it's so grateful!
One of the few trees my Siamese wouldn't have destroyed within 6 months. Most are so flimsy, they wouldn't last 6 days! Strength and rigidity are essential when making these. The daily hammering they can get from an active cat is immense.
Hi, I just discovered your video of the cat tree, which is incredible, I would have liked to know if it would be possible to have the dimensions to try to make it. In the comments you say that you released a video with the dimensions and voice over but I didn't find it Thank you in advance
The kind where the fibers stick straight out and aren’t folded back into the carpeting mesh. When the fibers stick straight out, the cats will have a harder time ripping them out and the product will last longer
I have 7 cats and they are on my bed 24/7 I think making them a large version of this with so. e soft placese to sleep will make my bed less full of hair and they might not sleep beside me all nght wish me luck guys I need to make one cause didnt find the large size needed

Awesome build and your cats love it, that's the best part and I'm thinking that the doggo is jealous that he doesn't have his/her own! 🐕 I see how you very safety conscious for your fur babies by folding in that knife, so please protect your feet as well. Sneakers are better than nothing. And I love the last part when you're playing with your fur baby so I just had to subscribe! 🙂🐈

Thank you! It really depends on the material. Here I spent roughly $100 in material alone, so I’d probably charge around $150-225 total.

Yes it would have! Hindsight was 20/20 here
It looks amazing. Where did you bought the carpet. It looks so thin compare to other stores carpet.
What a cool and great project. Nicely done sir.

Thank you very much! Very nice and you encouraged me to do one. I wish if the diameters were written in the description
I'm curious if you find it easier to carpet after you attach the beams rather than before?
Yes, it is definitely easier to do that prior to attaching posts. Hindsight is 20/20
That’s some talent. Nice job 👍🏻
awesome !!
big respect bro 👋🤍💗
love from malaysia 🇲🇾
Nice job. Might be the first one who didn't hot glue everything. How long did it take?
It took 8 hours of work. Would go faster with a tablesaw and if you’re working on a workbench
What are you using to nail the carpet to the wood?
A WEN staple gun
Thanks, john
