This is absurd! No way. For one, the guilty people who committed these crimes against humanity were acting on the accepted norms of their time. Secondly, those that committed these crimes are now long dead, just as those that suffered at their hands. Lastly, there is no amount of money in the world that can compensate ALL the sins of the past. If we approve monetary compensation to descendants of Africans who were enslaved, then every country that were colonised by Europeans should also be compensated. Mayan, Incas, American Indians, Filipinos, Australian aborigines, etc etc etc, would all be entitled to compensation, using this logic. Australia was created as a penal colony. Prisoners were sent there against their will. They would surely wan compensation as well. Where does it all end? Crazy!

American blacks may have an argument: When slave ships were illegal in America, 1808-1865. Any enslaved shipped during 1808 and 1865, from Africa to America were illegal, American blacks and reparations is possible, if moved forward. Not to mention, Jim Crow.
Britain outlawed slave ships to the Caribbean and elsewhere in 1807. West Indians deserve some reparations.
Urgh! I can't stand it! It's sad how so many ignorant people , from both sides of the reparations argument , are commenting. This is not or at least should not be an argument about race. This should be about wondering if the former colonial powers are really responsible for the mess that many Caribbean countries are in. My belief is that there's a mix of both. The former colonial powers are responsible for some of the ways Black Caribbean people see themselves and how so many of them view anything that's European as superior or better and anything that's too African or Black as unimportant and something that one should be ashamed of. But anyway , I've ranted. I just hope there's a sincere effort from Caribbean governments to actually pursue a meaningful form of reparations; perhaps not just hard cash as is being portrayed.

Here in the USA youd have to your race be listed as either negro, colored or African American on your birth certificate, social security, drivers license/ID, census etc. especially helps if you can trace your ancestry back to a African slave here in the USA. Im black and Hispanic but both sides of my fam have done this. it helps that weve lived in the south for over 150 years.
