No matter what her salary is, please give Lacey a raise. Her roundtables are a joy to watch.
IKR?! She is bloody wonderful! Much better than all of the other moderators, especially the Steven guy who talks over everyone.
@@SidPhoenix2211 Right. I'll take her uh-huhs over someone cutting off a good point being made or not allowing them to ask oen another questions.
Complete agree. She just let's the guests talk amongst themselves and doesn't try to be forceful in asking questions. Great interviewer
She is very good at engaging and fostering good conversations
I also love how they acknowledge that at the end too, so nice of them.

Whoever finally made the decision at THR to put Lacey in charge of these roundtables, I hope you get a raise!
Time to make some pasta carbonara and enjoy this.
She always does the Emmy's/TV roundtables. Galloway does the Oscars.
DUBMO heavy agree
I feel bad for the other guy but I totally agree, her table sessions seem much more relaxed.
@@benkylo8015 ah, i never noticed that pattern. i dislike galloway so much, i can't believe he gets that assignment.
Mmhmm! Uh-huh!
"my kids aren't happy, they're stupid" bill hader is the best!
Bill Hader can like GET IT
Absolutely!
right i’d take his laptop
Jess I see what you did there
In a heartbeat I SWEAR!!!
😂
I love when the guests start asking each other questions. You can tell Lacey makes an effort to make this more a conversation than an interview, so when they're actively engaging with one another it makes it that much better.
Rex J. For sure. Have you seen the actors on actors interviews?
Axel Arzola Yeah. I’ve kinda been binging them.
I love how awkward nervous Bill Hader always is. Thanks for representing the anxiety community! Lol
it's really relatable cause as a person with anxiety, i see some of my nervous mannerisms in him lol. i know i'd feel just like that sitting at the table with people i don't know.
We have a community?! So why haven't you bunch of dickholes ever sent me an e-vite?!
I'd love to see Bill Hader and Jerrod Carmichael do a one-on-one conversation, they both had such smart answers and they seemed to get on really well.
That comics bond.
Less than a minute in and Bill’s laugh is already contagious. Genuine laughter is the best. Love this panel already.
I love how Bill Hader mentioned the weird attraction reporter stuff and then also a person giving him bad critic for a character and you kind of see how Ali Rushfield jumps into immediate Bill-Hader-protection-mode. It's sweet to see the concerened look on her face while she is listening to him.

Bill Hader's face when they're all agreeing about the dishwasher thing like "What the hell are all those people talking about ??" 4:23
Jerrod: My grandmother actually killed herself on camera by taking pills and we watched her die...
Bill: 0_0
Is it though? You don't know the context. Maybe she was living in constant pain and decided she was going out on her own terms.
@@michaelfrey3619 watching someone die isn't horrible or sad?
like besides the context, just watching someone do that to themselves would probably change you, too
@@nefbrite6866 I've watched someone split their head open on a street pole in a motorcycle accident, that is sad. That was someone's life who was cut short without his consent. But let's be real context is everything. Watching someone be at peace with the way they are going out or taking back control over a disease that ruined their body and rendered them in constant agony. Isn't that cathartic? I don't know the scenario you are right. But I can pose an observation, she was surrounded by loved ones, she took a bunch of pills so she probably was in less pain than she had been, and she was becoming a part of her grand son's dream. I think we can all objectively say that's probably the happiest, best way you could go out. But you're right I don't know, I'm simply giving my perspective.
I don't think Bill Hader's attractiveness has anything to do with shooting a gun. His character in Barry is sorta lovable in a weird way and a romantic. He also got way hotter as he aged.
Fair but that reporter did, and said it.
it's his vulnerability and capability at his job that i find attractive tbh
I love how Bill Hader mentioned the weird attraction reporter stuff and then also a person giving him bad critic for a character and you kind of see how Ali Rushfield jumps into immediate Bill-Hader-protection-mode. It's sweet to see the concerened look on her face while she is listening to him.
I used to eat alot of street food, and there is something mesmerizing about seeing someone who has been doing it for years prepare your food. The skill, the competency, quickness just makes you want to keep watching them. It's the same reason why I get distracted when I am scrolling down on youtube on phone and see the thumbnail play the video of a person decorating a cake or a person turning a simple word into a drawing of a superhero or a dude making a swimming pool out of nothing or a someone making a goldchain from scratch. I haven't even clicked the video, but I am watching this thumbnail for 15 minutes without sound. The way Barry shoots those chechens in the first episodes just oozes competence. He is not trying to show off like an action hero either. It's understated. I am a guy, so I don't want to bang him over that, but it helped me separate Bill Hader, the SNL guy from Barry, a skilled assassin. It made me take Barry seriously.
Lacey is hands down the best moderator The Hollywood Reporter has ever had. Her roundtables are always a joy to watch and she knows how to keep the conversation flowing and control the room without it feeling sterile.
Host: How did your dad react to you referencing his illegitimate kids in your work?
Jerrod: Like a dad.
Host: What does that mean??
Jerrod: Suppressed violence that manifested during Cowboy games. You know...like a dad.
Me: 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Me Xavier that was genius I swear 😂😂😂
@@tionak right? I was dying. And if you looked at at.thwor facing Bill Harder was the only one laughing. The rest just seemed concerned. And that made it funnier. 😁
Me Xavier EXACTLY. You could tell they had no clue where he was going with the joke so they all looked nervous but Bill was all in. You can tell he loves dark comedy. I’d love to see them work together.

I liked how Bill and Alan were reserved in the start and got comfortable by the end especially when the walking thing came up.

I'd pay alllll the money to hear a podcast with Jerrod Carmichael and Donald Glover. They seem like they'd really get along and have amazing conversations!
There's an a24 podcast with a jerrod episode!

I agree
I didn't know Jerrod Carmichael before and he instantly became one of my favourite people in showbusiness here.
To hell with all the TV talkshows with their fake interviewers and stupid games. Conversations like this or Actors on Actors allow people to shine as who they really are - great artists!
Watch hid HBO special, 8.
Jerrod is a gem. Support that brilliant man😌✊🏾
Dude is real af.
These roundtables provide a rare look at what seems to be authenticity from some incredible creators. Very fun to watch 👌
djksquallzz for sure. Some of my favorite channels on RUclips.
I really wished I could hear more from Alan Yang because I was fascinated by how Forever casted a lot of Asian actors for not-necessarily-Asian characters ykwim. None of them had weird accents, none of them had over the top caricatures. It was dealt very casually and I was grateful.
Man, I'm not familiar with Carmichael, but it was so refreshing to hear someone speak these truths. I'm so tired of people talking about what you can't 'get away with' in movies now, or on tv etc. Doesn't stop the rest of them from continuing to fret about their content, but at least he has a head on his shoulders.
His prior show with NBC (The Carmichael Show) is on Hulu, and he has multiple stand up specials on HBO Go, as well as some mini documentaries (Home Movies and Semron on the Mount) too that examine the men and women in his family.
Jerrod is a young man very much worth paying attention to. Hes a great writer, actor and is a hilarious dude to boot.
His world view is entertaining and exploratory, always taking the viewer on a thought provoking journey while making sure you laugh to balance out the sometimes heavy subject matter.
Im a big fan of him & his work and will recommend people from all walks of life to check out what hes doin.
bernard wallace I think u like him so much cuz u wanna be like him, well you’d hope, but ur prolly socially awkward and have a hard time explaining yourself
@@barmeloxanthony724 Whoa. That's a really random, extremely insulting comment.
I've been watching Bill Hader videos for a week now... thanks quarantine?
"Then she could get eaten ... " ... I'm as uncomfortable with explicit stuff like this in these conovs as Bill Hader appears to be
Jerod will become one of the greats in comedy if he keeps continuing to push the boundaries
dude seems a little Sus to me
Joshua Davis agreed
David Mckesey even if he was what your eluding to I don’t understand why that matters since when does somebody’s sexual preference stop them from being a legend? Because through out history in any field of entertainment there’s always someone who has something to say about who people sleep with yet they still prevail do your research because I’ll be here all day naming names of legendary people who are “sus” you probably look up to
@@davidmckesey7119 go watch his interview with charlamagne
Joshua Davis who said anything about sexuality u buffoon, Jerrod weird af to me and he makes no sense when he opens his trap, their for he is suspect
I agree so much with what Jerrod Carmichael said about forced diversity, because, most of the time, it's just tokenism. And tokenism isn't genuine; it's just a lot of virtue signaling by writers and directors to show everyone how liberal they are through their movies and TV shows instead of focusing on making an actually compelling story. I'm all for diversity and representation, but not when it's done just because it's trendy.
Can you see your own reply? I see a preview but when i click it then it disappears.
Agreed. There is this weird assumption that every ethnic person wants a diverse cast just for the sake of it, but that's not true. Those are Hollywood actors complaining about that, the average ethnic person mostly wants to see a good, well told story on screen without forcing this diversity agenda down their throats. Also, it's all about people being a prisoner of their own perspectives, which everybody is to a degree. For example, you cannot expect, say, Bo Burnham, a white, upper middle class guy who makes films about personal experience, to include black and brown people just to be'diverse' because his upbringings simply did not involve interactions with those types of people.
What IS needed is more people of colour giving opportunities to write and direct material - that's true diversity, not having token character this and token character that.
And he had a perfect example of that kind of mentality sitting right next to him.
@@carmichaelk.5214 Except she is the characters you're calling a token and she knows people like the people she is writing. That is not tokenism. That is creating a story around people that she and others would love to see represented.
I agree with him about the forced diversity leanings, but disagree with his school thing to a degree. Sure, on the macro level you will see races dividing off, no different than what America looks like generally from neighborhood to neighborhood. But if you look closer you will see breaks in those groups featuring other races which also represents many neighborhoods. On the micro level shared interest come into play regardless of background which is where natural diversity lies.
Tokenism is a slippery slope for me and I'm not quick to label something as such unless it actually feels out of place or is actually in your face about what their trait is, whether it's race/gender/sexual orientation. A character may be the token character or it may be someone who just happened to be there and is not integral to the story and could have been anyone, but folks will say it's token anyway.
I'm a very simple woman. I see Bill Hader, I click.
Same 😂
The whole laptop conversation is exactly why we need women in writers rooms.
The transaction thing mentioned by Tanya was on the money, it's fucking creepy and I say that as a male. I completely agree, that limited perspective was awkward, glad to see most of the group agreed
In the context of the show, though, it comes from the character's hilariously naive romantic wedding/romance fantasy where "...and that was the moment I knew he was the one".
Wholly creepy but a lot of people do see relationships very transactionally to a much lesser level of financial spending. Any transaction is creepy to me.
@@adamdrakestudio I came in hot like landing a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier but I stayed on target and didn't insult anyone I think. It's just genuinely confusing to me why that specifically is the reason women should have a place in the writers room.
@@ianschmitt4991 because if you cant undestand what a real woman would react to and you need one to explain it to you, at least they should be paid to do so.
Jerrod always seems to be the smartest guy in the room. Love it!
At least he's CONVINCED that he is. Still not funny, though. Go figure...
MiSTaH bOmBAsTiK real shit, dude is a cornball

He's also really, really funny in his standup.
Here for Jerrod Carmichael and Bill Hader👏🏽
Same!
Bring back the interrupting guy
Said nobody ever
Everyone always says this, but he does the movie ones, never television.
Ainsley Harriott haha. For real. I stopped watching some of this because it felt like they were always fishing for gossip.
I completely agree, I just found this collection of videos and devoured a dozen of them. I friggin hate the way Golloway moderates. He clearly has an agenda, be it political or otherwise, which is fine. However, he should never allow his (or THRs) agenda get in the way and detract from the conversation.
Came for Hader stayed for Jerrod

The moderator is just excellent!
edit: even the guests in the end said she was great, too. :)
Jerrod Carmichael talking real talk.
Finally showrunners, my favourite panels.
And writers too
I'm not "into" TV like this, but Jerrod Carmichael's take on network television (and the jumps his show took is so insightful. I'm an immediate fan of this dude.
0:40 the tiny hands through the water are adorable.
God bless Jerrod Carmichael. Way to speak up.
Jerrod looks like Dave Chappelle playing Tiger Woods in the racial draft sketch.
I have never seen anyone, anyone of any race or ethnicity whatsoever, who eats a taco like a sandwich.
Jerod had some interesting points that no one pushed back on.
I would let Bill do anything to me.
Did I click on this for Bill Hader? Yes. But I really loved this whole discussion. I've been thinking about trying comedy writing for a little while and this really gave me a lot to think about. It also gave me some new shows to check out. I really enjoyed everyone's input, and the host did a great job of keeping the conversation from getting stale or repetitive.
I'm here for Bill Hader
At 15:00 Bill Hader joking about his little girl mock speaking is adorable and hilarious 😆
Dessapointed that Mike Schur is not here. Probably the most sucessfull comedy showrunner nowadays
debatable. The Good Place didn't fair well neither the Supermarket show either. but i hear ya.
I mean like all comedies of his in streaming era, good place doesnt have blockbuster ratings but appeals to a lot of young people and foes well in Netflix and rewatched just like parks and rec and the office back in the day. I think between good place, parks and rec and Brooklyn 99 he has a good stable of shows under his name. I don’t think superstore was his but I’m not sure.
Alan Yang is a producer on The Good Place and Parks & Rec. But yeah i totally agree, Mike Schur should've been in this roundtable.
Interesting that there are no network show show runners.
I believe he did the Comedy Showrunner roundtable during GG season last year
edit: it was the Emmy showrunner RT in July of last year
I can't say Barry was the best show i'v ever seen,
i can say it is the most unique show iv ever seen and it is good....
My feelings exactly.
Seriously, the best round table. I literally sat and watched the whole thing. Brilliant and the moderator was FANTASTIC
Bill talking about trying to get to writing the truth is so nice. I think that’s why these shows are so cathartic sometimes because they’re just trying to get to the core of a real feeling or situation in just a harsh truthful and sensible way. It’s hard to write shows in a way that really resonate with people and I think Barry does that so well.
I need a Bill Hader to keep in my pocket at all times. He's so cute (and also a mad genius).
Why is Lacey running all the interviews? And FYI I'm not complaining.😊😊😊😊
Bill Hader ❤
Bill Hader is so lovely😍💙🌈🏳️🌈
I love these. J. Carmichael's one of those once-a-generation brains, Alan Yang's always picking interesting projects, Mandel and Rushfield are such pros, Saracho you definitely want to talk to for an hour.
Soon as Hader said Taxi Driver, I thought of the phone scene, with which I had the exact same experience; single instance learning about what a movie can be.
Alternately : In the info on top here, should it say "Vido" for Tanya Saracho? Not Vida?
This has become one of my favorite things to watch on RUclips. Love the content
PDXenvy me too. I have a whole watch list to catch up on.
I hadn't known about Jerrod Carmichael but after watching this he seems like a very honest filmmaker as far as someone who has to express what they've experienced and seen through their own life. Kinda refreshing to see that honesty.
Came for the Hader! Loved the talk and critique of the writers room and self-censorship. This makes me want to check out 'Forever' and everything Jerrod Carmichael does. Saracho was literally incapable of doing anything but promote and echo "The Latinix Story", and her being at this table is the "lying for the sake of representation" that seemed to earn universal disdain in the room. Carmichael KILLED it over and over.
I love these roundtables. Please keep doing them. Even though I only watch for one or two people I know, I always find the others interesting and find new things to watch.
I love Bill hader
Every time Jerrod makes a comment, David Mandel responds to correct him; "I disagree and here's why."
Seems like they finally got the formula right lol This is like a damn near perfect room. Comedians who create drama that’s diverse and humble. I dig it
Let BILL TALK
Bill looks great in the thumbnail
Lacey did a great job, my favorite one yet. Love Barry. Now i want to check out the other shows!
Lacey is SUCH a good interviewer. She is so much better than that rude guy who always interrupted everyone!
She barely speaks. And that's a good thing, she let's the natural flow of the conversation carry on.
I came for Bill Hader and landed up REALLY enjoying the whole conversation.
Attempt (4): Can your team do a discussion with Child Stars? Past/Present? Love the Roundtable series! Lacey you’re the best!
Catherine Daniels pretty good idea.
@@AxelAxe Thank you! Experienced actors can relate to the younger ones; Stars who've recently detached themselves from the title 'child star' express how they navigate their career today now that they're independent.
I-SPY: Tiny hands in a glass 😂😂. 👍🏽 when you see it

There's no way they set that angle up on accident 😂. Hilarious
Bill Hader forever
Bruh I've been waiting for this roundtable and I'm so glad it's finally here!
I would take that laptop,thanks for present😂
Thank you for including the explanations of the "insider" terminology!
I love watching these. Shoutout Jerrod!
comedy roundtables are always fun because they aren't afraid to be themselves/be self aware.
Holy shit, the Forever showrunner dropping David Lynch, Paris Texas, and In the Mood for Love as inspirations for the show just sold me on it big time.
I'm only 10 minutes in and this is the best line up of people holy shit thank you.
Tanya hit the nail on the head - its creepy because it feels like a transaction, some men feel they entitled to something paying for dinner let alone a laptop or ipod. Its unfortunate men can't jst be nice if they have the means but often than not women are expected to be super easy in return.
R maybe he didn’t want anything in return and legit just wanted to buy her that iPod
@@TALEOFA yeah this is why I said its unfortunate they can't just be nice if they have means.
R and I said it doesn’t matter if they buy someone something if you feel a type of way about it that’s on you because just like he did it doesn’t mean he wants something in return just could mean he bought something just cause he wanted to or she wanted to like it’s not always they want something in return but
@@TALEOFA we saying the same thing. I recognise that its not his fault but my point is more to explaining why she would have felt like that. Its up to the other person whether or not they can understand or accept that reason.
R ah got it and I believe people can if the reason is good
Guys, I think Tanya Saracho might be latina
every time she said latinx i cringed a little. that word sounds so dumb. she was so annoyingly preachy.
@@vanessa0111 she annoys the sh-t out of me. latino is already a gender-neutral term, but of course she has to use ~inclusive~ liberal jargon for everything. when she said "brown queers" i swear to god bill looked like he was going to laugh.
diane cry-anne nguyen yeah I know that’s what’s so stupid about using that word it’s totally unnecessary! Im starting to see it more often and it just bugs the shit out of me haha. And yeah I wouldn’t be able to not laugh if I heard someone say “brown queers” in front of my face 😂
Fun Fact of the Day: All of these showrunners run shows with one-word titles. :)
I’m only here for Jerrod, no offense to the other writers.
I can’t tell if Bill Hader hasn’t ever eaten a taco... or if he was joking... 🌮 🌮 🌮
...I’ll be bill haders laptop
Jerrod calling out the scared, lazy writing really gave me rekindled hope in somebody that there are people who see it as redundant. I was unfamiliar with anybody in this panel, save for Bill Hader. Jerrod calling out the fact that Trump is essentially a dead horse that the whole town is perfectly content to beat. I don't know his political views or anything but, at the risk of generalizing, safe money says he leans left. I say this because he is at least famous enough to be a feature in one of these videos, and if you hadn't noticed, there's a particular tone on these videos or in Hollywood in general.
Speculation aside, this very new hero of mine stated what I think a lot of the people who aren't left or right feel about some of the writing nowadays. I can't get through 15 minutes of a talk show or a late night without a tag at Donald Trump.
Even these roundtables, which should be organic free forums of great artists and creators, are marred when someone like Golloway comes in with some politically charged shit out of left field.
Do not misinterpret friends I think you can write jokes about anything, Trump included. I also believe that a good joke is a good joke. But c'mon, looking at it objectively, don't you at some point find something else? Y'know, let the supervillain catch a long rest (Rpg term) regain some HP and lay into him again when it's not so..... tedious. Eh, what do I know?
The state of things almost could be compared to a pond in an old folk community.
You got a bunch of people feeding ducks by throwing bread to them.
Why are the people feeding the ducks? Well, they don't have much else to do.
Why are they using bread? It's cheap.
Why do the ducks keep eating the bread? Because by the time it gets to them its watered down and has very little substance to it. And the ducks can be dumb and not realize that shit sometimes....
The interviewer is excellent
Such a great roundtable, each and every one of them. And Lacey is BY FAR the best interviewer in these👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿
I like how all these shows have one word names. And 3 of the 6 are named after characters in the show.
just awesome. Just finished Barry season 2 and to see the common ground all these creatives has is really a great insight into the creative mind.
15:20 Why did you interrupt lady?! Hader was about to say something funny about his daughter :/
That water is so clear
Jerrod is hilarious
You can tell that Carmichael and Hader are kindred spirits and vibing with each other. Love to see brilliantly talented people get excited and talk about their craft.
They were both on SNL.
Favorite commentary: Veep in the current political climate is like, “If ‘Leave it to Beaver’ came out after the Civil Rights movement.”
