    Hand Independence is a big deal when it comes to learning the piano. One of the questions I hear most often as a piano teacher is "how do I get my hands to do different things at the same time?!"
    While developing hand independence is a gradual process that happens naturally as you learn piano, here are a few quick tips to help speed that process up. 😎

    To all the people saying they cant do it. I literally started really slowly. So slow that i literally sounded like i was pressing random notes in no rhythm whatsoever. I really really slowly picked up the speed and now i can do it really easily. This probably wont help because im terrible at explaining stuff but hey-ho i tried

    • @eventhorizon

      Exactly, start off going as slowly as you have to while trying to play at a consistent a speed as possible, and speed up as you can. I went from not having touched a piano in over 20 years to playing Mad World, playing the piano part righty and the vocal part lefty.
      To say I went so slowly to force my hands to do 2 different things that it was any sort of musical piece would be an understatement of massive proportions. I would literally play 1 measure in ultra slow motion, at a time, until I was able to bring it up to speed. If you do that exercise, even if you have to count to 5 for the 1/4 notes so that you can make your 1/8 note hand play at the right time, start off that way.
      I would say a metronome is likely the best way to go one you get a few passes at an inconsistent speed, as slow as it needs to, to help become consistent, and from there it can be sped up to help you so you don't really have to count during.
      There are free metronome apps for cellphones, so people don't have to get one.
      The metronome is probably the best friend any musician can have for practice, but especially one starting out who don't have an internal one just yet... and probably the most neglected one as well by most!
      And I say this having a beautiful metronome that's somewhere in my home collecting dust... I'd lie if I said I was good about it majority of the time, I really need to use it more when practicing the piano and guitar... lol.

      @@PianoteOfficial does playing the song minuet work as well? Just started a week ago and been working on minuet for a while now. Reading the music sheet is pretty basic but hand independence and knowing when you should really press and release is the hard part. If this could work are there any other musics I could practice on for beginners that has trouble with hand independence?

    • @DonutEatingDoggo
      @DonutEatingDoggo 5 лет назад +4

      @@eventhorizon I tried using metronome which is built in with the synthesizer I bought only to know how long I should press each notes. Didn't know I could use the metronome that way as well!

    • @eventhorizon
      @eventhorizon 5 лет назад +2

      @@DonutEatingDoggo the metronome is great for playing consistently at any speed, no matter who you are, it's very easy, over time, no matter how slightly, to speed up at parts your confident in, and slowing for parts that are tough.
      Once I have the idea of the song down, I'll practice at whatever speed I have to so I can play at a consistent pace, even if it means I play the majority of the piece slower than I need to because there's one part I find tricky.
      Then, because any time I work on something new my instinct is to stop at mistakes, which doesn't help if you're playing in front of people and need to just play through errors, I practice at speed, so I work on playing through mistakes, working on fixing them next time through.
      I find the metronome helps for both of those... I'm no where near where I could, like, be a musician in a band, but it helps me tremendously.
      And it's something anyone who has been a teacher to me with any kind of instrument has drilled into me. Even professionals can benefit by using their metronome.
      Even knowing that I practice too often without it, and always notice the practicing is noticeably improved when I do.
      Once you have an internal "metronome" you can count on, I'm sure you need a physical one less, but it's a good tool to have around.

    A little more than a month ago, I started learning to play the piano. Everything was simple, until I came to the use of two hands at the same time not in simple compositions. Your video helped me to finally deal with this problem, for which I am very grateful to you!

    My brain keeps putting everything into specific patterns making it so that I can do the exercises perfectly but I still have pretty bad hand independence when it comes to playing actual music.

    The exercise worked well on me! At first it was a bit tricky but I got the hang of it. Try to relax your mind and not overthink that you'll hit the wrong key.
    Start of slow and gradually fasten your pace. Thank you for this! 💜

    Great video! Maybe because I'm ambidextrous, that I have some kind of edge.. It's still hard to separate the roles of each hand though.
    The way you explained it all really went over well for a beginner like me and many others.
    Cheers
