Lisa, you are wonderful. Your personality and sparkling teaching ability shine through and encourage me as I stumble along with tangled fingers and .hands that keep mimicking each another! I will persist. Can you recommend how much time a day to spend on scales or exercises v. pieces? Thank you so much.
Just wanted to say that I have discovered your videos and I am very impressed with them. Your practice exercises are wonderfully explained and easy to follow. Thank you so very much - You haave re-ignited my desire to learn to play the piano again at 76!!
*Thank You very much Lisa for all your efforts and positivity. I have been learning to play Piano and Music Theory online. You are very encouraging and inspiring.* ❤️ from India.
This is easily one of the best channels for learning piano. I have been practicing moonlight sonata movement 1 ever since I bought the piano a couple of weeks back and the "control" aspect of it is the challenge. Even though I have learnt the entire thing and committed the notes to memory, the degree of softness/loudness that needs to be taken into account makes my playing much more amateur compared to a professional pianist, even though the song itself seems easy at first glance. This video will hopefully help big-time with perfecting that!
maybe someone already mentioned this ... on the exercise for independent hand coordination, on your second time through - when you started w the right hand ( 1 - 2 and -- 4 ) and then added the left hand you reversed back to the first way you played it, meaning when you brought the left hand in your right hand switched to 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. Love you joyful approach.
Thank you for the section on Control. I am 70 this year and have been learning piano for 3 years and I am despairing that I will ever get my hands to put expression into my playing. Lisa, you make it look so easy.
If I don’t learn to play piano I could listen to your voice for 1000 years and it would call me and all the negativity in this world you give me a life and I hope that is beautiful and helpful thank you for being you don’t ever change being who you are you bring such a pleasure for so many human beings and their confidence you are a gift from some energy from some force field from Sam god call it what you want but you are perfect keep doing what you’re doing thank goodness for people like you
When I was looking for videos about how to get started playing my keyboard, they either put me to sleep, or felt like infomercials (become a piano expert in 3 days!). I love your video because you just teach the lessons in a fun and interesting way. Thanks for the great content!
I'm actually a guitar player for 20 years, but been watching Lisa, and her piano lessons, and I'm hooked, I have a purchased £3000 Kawai piano being delivered in 2 days. cant wait to start. thanks Pianote - I am converted and will upload my progress. Thanks again Lisa, You have been inspirational.
I started learning piano as an adult in May 2021, I am following many of your beginners lessons here, please do more, they so helpful, and Lisa you’re so sweet.☺️
Thank you so much Lisa. These exercises are just what I needed. I had a bone removed from each wrist and I think these are really going to help strengthen my hands, not to mention that they are beautiful sounding. I love listening to and watching your videos and one of these days I plan to join Pianote to have full access to your site. Thanks again!
Thank you so much, Lisa, for your helpful, fun-loving videos on learning the piano. As a young boy of 6 I had my first year of piano, then 2 more years of lessons from my church music director at age 13 - 14. At that time I was just beginning to play hymns. Then, nothing for almost 60 years. Now I am reviewing and continuing on. Last year I bought a Yamaha portable, digital piano (P-121) and practice almost everyday with 2 sessions of 30 minutes each. It might seem strange, but I actually enjoy Hanon and scales because I know they are helping develop better technique. Following your suggestion I also do arpeggios, and chords with inversions. Several years ago I saw "Scott, The Piano Guy" on PBS TV and realized that someday I would again be learning to play music, but this time I have a strong inner desire to stay with it and become good. Next year I hope to buy a Kawai MP7SE portable digital piano. It is an amazing instrument which has won many international awards. Many musicians feel that Kawai is surpassing Yamaha in offering high-quality, reliable and affordable keyboards. The features on the MP7SE and the beautiful voices (sounds) simply were not available when I was much younger. Thanks so much, Lisa, for your helpful videos. I like the musical content, but most of all, I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOUR PLAYFUL, FUN-LOVING ATTITUDE. It helps to take the drudgery out of repetition when doing Hanon, scales and other finger exercises. I send you a big warm hug of support for sharing your musical talent with us. Best wishes from the USA, Jerry.
After finding your videos, I'm wanting to play again after 50 years...and even if I don't, I'm thoroughly enjoying the beauty you bring out of the keyboard...thank you!
I watched this video while away from the keyboard. The exercises look like they will be very challenging and effective. I can’t wait to get to the keyboard and start working on these! Thank you so much, Lisa!
I am a Pianote member and LOVE Pianote!! If I can learn to play the piano, so can you. Lisa Witt and team are patient, talented and teach in an inspired way with a big dose of humor. What are you doing with that keyboard collecting dust? Try Pianote! I did and have no regrets!!!!
Thank you so much for your lessons, Lisa! Your resources are so helpful. I am a piano teacher so your videos really help me when I am teaching my beginner students! -Adreanne
Good luck. I'm 66 and bought a digital piano about four weeks ago. I played in band while in my 30s to make money played many different instruments. I was a decent piano player. But my new piano is like a long, lost relative.
I am 71, and also learning for the past year. It is not going fast, but I am not disheartened, nor will I give up. I absolutely love it because little by little, beautiful music emerges from my efforts. I know more will come as I learn more. Keep up the good effort 81 (now probably 84).
Thank you Lisa! What I love is that you help me to make and enjoy music from my first piano-baby-steps while not shying away from theory and "doing the hard work of practice", I never thought I could learn music theory/sheetmusic/chordprogressions but you helped me to get started AND enjoy it!
Wow.. you're the best music teacher in the world, mam..! So amazing skills you have presented here... I am your piano student on RUclips from today...! ❤️ from New York...!
I’ve just ordered the Yamaha P125 today. I’m so excited to start my piano journey I’m watching these videos before I even have a piano! I have a good musical background in guitar with music theory so with enough dedication piano will be the same hopefully. Thx for these videos you put out very informative and educational.
I fell in love with the third exercise . can you feel how she was like a butterfly flying at 11:46 , it is so beautiful to have that mutual feelings . Thank you
Hi, since the comments are turned off on another video of yours( obviousli I'll come back to check out the video at some point), I came here to express my outmost sincere gratitude for the time and effort you put into making these videos. I used to play piano as a kid and now coming out of a dark time of adulthood I picked up playing piano Thanks To You. Lots of love. 🙂 I'm happy to have stumbled on your channel 💙
I've been struggling with piano tutorial For years... And can't understand any but i saw you..... Thank you I believe with time I'll perfect it. ❤️ From Nigeria
A side comment you made about hand independence is probably one of the most helpful ever. “You never really master it”. I’ve been trying for years to separate the two and while now I have no idea why I struggled with swing beats or simple arpeggios etc I now struggle with complex blues rhythms. Maybe hand independence is not a skill in itself, you just have to get one of your hands in autopilot eg a repeating arpeggio pattern, but if you learnt a new pattern you start again. I’ve been frustrated that after all these years I haven’t mastered “the skill” of hand independence . Love your lessons by the way.
I haven’t truly played the piano in over 10 years-and I used to instruct beginners and have OMTA certificate. OMG! I am looking forward to starting again and seeing where I go! Thanks for your input and energy!
You are so talented! I was going to give up on piano until I came across you. Thank you so much for being an inspiration. Thank you for touching my soul.
I just wanted to say thanks. Your classes have kept my interest and help improve my playing ability, sometimes the class is a little too fast so I slow it down to 75% so I can watch fingers better and get a laugh it’s like watching drunken history. You’re getting great information and a couple giggles. Thank you very much.

got the Hanon book a few weeks ago and got stuck with exercises no. 1 - 3 because, frankly, they are boring - surely they are useful though. Now I will add no. 10 to the list, always helps to get a little extra motivation. Thanks!
Stumbled on this channel while looking up a random song to play around with on guitar, so glad I did have a JDXI and a looper and just mess around with them. Been playing keys for weeks now. Excellent lessons and very helpful 👌 Thank you
