The fibres were spun into beautiful unexpected coloured yarns the bluebell and green and the lovely soft almost peachy orange loved the episode the folding technique was all very interesting Im really enjoying watching you spin Angela more please 😜 thank you 😊
Oh wow that is just amazing Valerie. I hope that will be me one day, with all of your spinning experience 🤞🥰🧡 Do you gave a favourite spinning technique? Thank you so much for watching and for leaving such a kind comment too
Dear Angela, Thank you for posting these informative videos where you try different things... I'm sure they are very helpful for people who are starting out and thinking about new techniques. Spinning from the fold is my favourite way to spin combed top... somehow I feel the fibre secure in my hands when I do that and hardly ever get breakages. Lots of kisses. Ivana xxx
Great to catch up! 😁 Both yarns look lovely 😍 The colours in the spring one are especially beautiful 🌼 I have no tips for spinning from the fold, I’ve never mastered it! Starts out ok, then ends up spinning from the tip again, then I give up 🤣 A tip for finishing off a 3 ply though-when 1 bobbin runs out, use a Nøstepinne to wind a centre pull ball from the fuller of the remaining bobbins. Spit splice the starting end to the end of the strand that ran out and carry on 3 plying. When the ball runs out, use the loop at the end to start chain plying 😁 🐑🤗
Hehe I’m glad that it isn’t just me I was so tempted to give up particularly when working the first skein but enjoyed it so much more with the second blend of fibre. Thank you so much for the tip with the bobbins will definitely give it a try 😃 Hope you are able to enjoy a wonderful relaxing Sunday 🧡
Oh I saw some bluebells this week. I can't wait to see a woodland carpet of bluebells! I Love your music choice for the spinning. It sounded gentle but happy ☺
I haven't tried spinning from the fold but having watched your video, I might just be brave enough to give it a go. Your green yarn is beautiful. I'd never have picked out that fibre colour to spin but it's transformed. That has taught me a lessen, never judge a yarn by it's fibre! 🤗
It’s so true isn’t it. I think the more you spin the more you can make an educated guess as to how your yarn might turn out but you never can tell. If you try spinning from the fold you’ll have to let me know how you get on 😃🧡🧶
Way to go Ange, this was fabulous experiment to share with us! As I've mentioned my spinning mojo has disappeared....might be incentive enough to get back at the wheel and PUSH ON!!! Thanks my fiber friend.:)
I just started spinning 3weeks ago. Isubscribed today. I wanted to say how much loved the spring yarn you made I was sad it was a chore as it really is beautiful. The mixed yarn was very good as you said you it was better to use and you enjoyed it more. That shows in the spin I think. Thank you for your intstruction it was great to follow. Think I will try fold spin when I have got the easier ones right. sue
Thank you so much Sue for watching, subscribing and for also taking the time to leave a lovely comment 🥰🧡 I hope you enjoy spinning from the fold when you do get to try it, now that I’ve gotten used to it it’s definitely become one of my favourite spinning techniques 🧡🧡
I really enjoyed this Ange, I was taught to spin from the fold when I got my wheel. I am pleased that you found a use for that fibre it looks great in the skein and I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
Thank you Pamela for giving me the gift of such beautiful fibre, I really enjoyed working with it and appreciate the opportunity it gave me to experiment and learn something new 😃🧡🧶
Love watching you spin, especially using e spinner. Both yarns are really pretty. The first turned out much greener than expected. We have a new arm chair and spinner is set up on the table next to it. Hoping it'll encourage me to use it regularly. Hope your ok. Xx🌈💕
Thank you so much Angela. I’m suffering a bout of sciatica again at the moment so I love having the espinner to use as I wouldn’t be able to treadle at the moment. Yay sounds like you have a new cosy corner, hope you are able to find some time to enjoy a little bit of spinning every day
Hi Ange, just about to attempt to spin from the fold for a first time experiment and found your video! You always seem to pop up somewhere to help me out! 🤣🤣🤣
Aww that’s fantastic. I hope the video helped in some way. How are you getting on with spinning from the fold. I remember being on the fence about it when I first tried and now it’s my favourite way to spin on my support spindles 😃
Oh that’s so exciting it’s always fun to try out something new. I hope you are having fun with it. I don’t think I can claim to be an expert but I do really enjoy spinning from the fold now 😃🧡
Great episode, I really enjoyed it and love watching you spin. I haven’t yet tried spinning from the fold, I need to have a go. I am spinning whisper from FibreHut at the moment, it’s the Daybreak colourway and is gorgeous to spin.
Thank you Belinda I’m so happy to know you enjoyed it 😃 Ooh what a lovely coincidence that we’d be spinning the same blend. It’s a beautiful fibre isn’t it 😃
Wonderful video Ange! I’ve literally just finished spinning some mixed fibre that I was having trouble with so I’d be excited to try this technique next time 💛 I’d love a video on your chain plying process as that’s something I struggle with and want to attempt again for my sock spin.
Thanks Lottie. Oh yes I’d say definitely give this a try next time you have some troublesome fibre 😃 And thank you for the video suggestion I started recording for it yesterday but knowing me it will take a few weeks to actually finish getting all the footage and edit together but it will come 😃
Thank you for being so inspiring! I’ve only tried spinning a couple of staple lengths from the fold and then reverted to my default! I saw Sara’s tutorial too and at the time I had just spun a mixed fibre braid which I think would have worked well. I have some blends in my stash and you’ve inspired me to spin a whole braid that way! 🙏
Aww thank you so much Beverley. I hope that you do decide to give it another try. As I said in the video after the first braid I wasn’t a convert but really enjoyed the technique for the second so I definitely think it’s about finding the right fibre. If you do decide to try it again you’ll have to let me know how you get on
I think you can definitely make an educated guess and the way you choose to spin something can also help determine what it will look like but there is always a bit of an element of surprise/unexpectedness too 😃
Well this was fascinating! I've tried spinning from the fold and really didn't enjoy it. I struggled a lot with the fibre turning into a matted nest, and it was really hard on my arthritis in my knuckles. But now I'm wondering about tryit again. I didn't know about it being particularly suitable for a blend, and I reckon I could use a bit of wooden dowl rather than my finger. I could try using one of my batts as I think it's a good technique for semi-woollen and woollen yarn? 🤔
I was the same after spinning that first braid I was so tempted just to let it go and not try again as I wasn’t particularly enjoying it, but I’m glad I persevered with a different fibre and I am happy with both of the yarns. I’m sure a wooden dowel would work as something to fold the fibre over. Spinning combed top like this does create a semi woollen yarn as you are jumbling the fibre as you spin so I don’t see why it wouldn’t also work on a batt
Hi Angela , I have never spun anything in my life but watching you do it makes me want to!!! Question is , where do I start ? Any suggestions / advice would be very welcome . Thank you as always for a lovely segment , I always enjoy your vlogs even if I don’t always comment on them . Kind regards , Karen x
Thank you so much for your kind words Karen, it makes me so happy to know that you enjoy the videos. I do hope you decide to dip your toes in to spinning. I’d say start with a drop spindle, it’s a really affordable way to give spinning a try. And when groups are allowed to meet again in your area I’d say also try getting in touch with your local spinning guild if you have one as many groups have wheels for hire or members that would be willing to let you have a try on their wheels
Really interested in what you were saying about merino feeling like you were starting a lot. I found that the John arbon merino I'm using is better than some other merino stuff I bought.
I love the yarns you have spun, Angela! I find it magical, how the fibers change into a beautiful yarn! 🧶 ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Zoi, it really is such a fun process 😃
The fibres were spun into beautiful unexpected coloured yarns the bluebell and green and the lovely soft almost peachy orange loved the episode the folding technique was all very interesting Im really enjoying watching you spin Angela more please 😜 thank you 😊
Thank you so much Morag. Spinning is definitely my favourite thing at the moment so I will be happy to share more 😃🧡🧶
I’ve been spinning since the 1980s and thoroughly enjoyed you podcast. Each new spin is another adventure. Thankyou.😊
Oh wow that is just amazing Valerie. I hope that will be me one day, with all of your spinning experience 🤞🥰🧡 Do you gave a favourite spinning technique? Thank you so much for watching and for leaving such a kind comment too
I actually really like how the green one turned out! It truly does have that hint of bluebell floral. Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you so much Leila 🥰🧡
I can see the joy on your face whenever you share spinning.
Is it that obvious 😃🥰🧡🧶
Oh dear am I about to get an e-spinner lol. Love your vids, keep them coming xx
🤣 I do enjoy using mine. Thank you so much, there will definitely be more spinning videos soon
Thanks for highlighting off the fold, I haven't done it since I learned to spin. With your encouragement I am ready to give it another try ☺️
I had a lot of fun with this technique once I got going. Hope you enjoy revisiting it Francine 🧡 Happy spinning 😃

Thank you so much lovely Sheri. I hope you are doing well and that your spinning mojo works it’s way back to you soon 🤞🤗🧶
both of your spins are gorgeous. I dream to be able to spin as well as you.
Aww thank you Angie 🥰🧡🧶
Love your spinning videos!! Thanks! I’m spinning Polwarth my favorite 😊
Thank you so much Deb. Oooh what a lovely spin, I love Polworth too 🧡

Your spinning vlogs are my fave! I loved spinning from the fold too. Well done-- yours look beautiful. Can't wait to see what you make. Xx
Thank you 😊 I’m so happy I tried out this technique and am happy with both of the yarns 😃🧡
I love alpaca to spin with! It can be spun so thinly, but it still stays strong ☺
I just tried spinning from the fold for the first time yesterday. You must be quite expert by now.
Oh that’s so exciting it’s always fun to try out something new. I hope you are having fun with it. I don’t think I can claim to be an expert but I do really enjoy spinning from the fold now 😃🧡
You make is look so easy ❤️🇨🇦❤️
Aww thanks Judith. I just try and take things slow until I find a rhythm whenever I am trying out something new

As a non spinner I find the transformation in colours from braid to yarn fascinating. Can you tell how it will look before you spin? 🥰
I think you can definitely make an educated guess and the way you choose to spin something can also help determine what it will look like but there is always a bit of an element of surprise/unexpectedness too 😃

Yes well prepared fibre makes such a big difference to the spinning experience
