  • 5 years ago, I recorded the first combo spin video. And I thought it was time to do another one.
In those 5 years I learned a lot more about combo spins and about making videos. So here we are: Combo Spin - Beyond the Sliver!
If you want to find me on the Internet: I´m "schnueffeltier" on Ravelry and on Instagram.

I love the follow up, the yarn came out to well and more cohesive than I was thinking it would. The original combo spin version was how I found you in 2019 when I was learning to spin and have enjoyed watching you since. This video popped up in my feed so I figured to watch it again for old times sake 💜

I love the little whine, like there’s a mosquito who’s interested to learn about fibre!

FYI: The BFL/Kid Mohair appeared to be "compacted" rather than felted. 9/10 times, a magic trick to verify and, more importantly, fix this and will reveal they aren't actually felted is to: run the entire length of the roving through steam. I use a steam gun, but you may also use steam from a kettle. Regardless of which of the two methods you use, be very careful not to burn yourself. Anyway, back to the "magic." As soon as the steam hits the compacted roving, it will expand/puff-up/balloon. It will shock you the first time you do it.😊

Love this! Your original mix and spin the bits in the bag taught me how to let go of perfectionism in color combinations and I have had a blast ever since! Now what to do with all of the sweaters and wraps?! Thanks!!

It's a brilliant idea to make a combospin more cohesive where you have such contrasting colours going on. Thank you for sharing this technique! X

Thank you for this excellent video🙏 You are so inspiring and I want to try it now! I loved your first video on this and discovered it when I was just learning to spin about a year ago. I shall definitely be trying this when my husband has finished the drum carder he is making for me! I love your videos🙏

Wish I had the smaller carder. Mine creates batts much wider. Colours are beautiful. Doll

Hi Tracy, I hope you're OK xx
Thankyou for sharing this video podcast on Combo Spinning, for going through the whole process,.
Your first video that you did on this, I was a New Spinner ( January 2021) using Drop Spindles, so was and am still interested in the ways to prepare fibres for spinning.
The yarn and knitted swatch in this vidoe looks really nice. I now have a Blending Board and the Nano 1.1 e Wheel and i love it. Definitely will be putting the combo spin into my Spinning.
Your videos are super helpful and fun.
Thankyou for sharing your expertise with us.
    Happy Spinning.
    Take care and stay safe.
Lots of love Jen xxxx 💖 ❤ 🐏🐏💕

This is great. I did a combination spin a while ago after watching your video, and knitted the yarn into a cardigan, it was great fun. Now I need to try this technique aswell. Thanks 😊

Wow. So educational. Way too much colour for my, but I see your point. I thought the washer was too heavy. It isn't! Very smart. Thanks.

That’s so useful, thank you. I have one lovely gradient braid and I’m wondering what to do with it. Whether to bother trying to maintain the gradient, but I could manage to I suppose. It’s greedy grey, blending to a purple grey. I think I’m going to blend it with black and white silk blend merino top, or just black. Make my DH a scarf maybe

Ah! This is fantastic! I didn't know what this technique was called! I just searched for and found your first video so I could rewatch it! Brilliant. Thank you! I think there is one more option. You could vertically strip down each braid of top and hold 2 or 3 (or more, I suppose) together as you spin. I don't have a drum carder, but I might try this with my blending board.

I bought 100g of baby camel with the most gorgeous coloured silk blended in, but still in strips. I’m told silk tends to stay in strips when re carded, so I’m planning to blend the lot carefully with something longer staple (than the camel) in the hope the silk will still shine through in the yarn, and the camel will get blended and held together. It was so beautiful, it spoke to me, even though I knew it would be a problem!
