- Take a ride with us as we explore the history of one of the world's most beautiful trains - the Southern Pacific "Morning Daylight", along with its accompanying steam engine the Lima Locomotive Works 4-8-4 GS-4!

My grandfather piloted the first Daylight LA to SF 1937. My age is 91 and I treasure all the stories he told.

This was when the railroads had their own passenger trains. What a beautiful train. I was lucky enough to ride the Union Pacific and ATSF passenger trains, way before Amtrak was formed.
We should put together the GS-4 and passenger cars of the Southern pacific, and run it in the year 2023 down the same tracks. From San Francisco to Los Angles as a fundraiser. Just a grand though!

I have the Kato GS4 locomotive number 4449 in the Southern Pacific Daylight colors & the 10 car Morning Daylight set which I run as my excursion train on my N scale Pacific West Coast model railroad. I bought it in September,2019 from Obie’s trains in Apache Junction,AZ where I buy most of my N scale model railroad freight cars, track & wire for my planned permanent layout.
I think we model a lot of the same things! It is my excursion train, too, with additional replicas of private cars.

SP 4449 and some of the cars do run occasionally as an excursion service.
I wish they would do a fan trip version of 4449 with the auxiliary tender.

Very much planning to get this set. Are there plans to release decal sets for additional road numbers for the articulated coaches like in prior runs?

Dose the daylight pull the Milwaukee road cars what other excursion cars can they pull besides there own set?
Are you going to release more 2 car articulated sets with different numbers?
I ordered DCC/sound version7 months ago. Shipping delays are still delaying the locomotive.

The Daylight was "most beautiful" until degraded with simplified colors of red-striped stainless beginning in 1958. After 1971 the Daylight became a tri-weekly Amtrak train. Neither of these qualify as beautiful.

Sorry to say that my 4449 model actually broke on the first day after a short, small fall onto my carpet. I have no way to fix it, nor can I get a refund from the hobby shop I got it from.
