Trying to make progress on a field tile job, but there was a wrench thrown in the plan.

MBTS leaves you alone for one job and you break his tile plow. You know he is NEVER gonna let you live this one down. 😂
Man, I hate that for you DP, and I know Aaron is kicking himself for not being there with you. I know one thing, when y’all get it fixed, it’ll never fail right there again, I’d bet money on that!! God bless y’all and y’all be safe.
Material fatigue ...
Happens on all devices under constant huge load.
I'm impressed how long you actually worked with this plow no failures.
Points to a good design.
Actually, no. Fatigue doesnt happen under constant load, it happens on alternating loads... its the amount of stress and release cycles that accumulate fatigue
@@Sjanzoi do believe you win the prize.
Actually, yes - as you clearly got the message, despite your extremely correct explanation @@Sjanzo
@@Sjanzoyou can still have a yielding material failure from excessive force.
There are several different types of metal fatigue. There’s compression, tension, shear as well as cyclical or work hardening. This could have been tension or cyclical. Probably both. Could also have been a harder alloy with induced stress during welding with no annealing to redirect the stress. How energy will flow through an assembly isn’t always obvious. Even the best design assemblies can fail in surprising ways.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am......stuck in the middle.....
I can already hear Aaron, "Im gone for one day and you tear up my plow 😂. You guy's will have her fixed up better then new in no time.
That J braking on the way back to the shop was so soothing.

Safe to say that there is an intense amount of pressure when ripping through rocks/hard ground. It’s easy to understand why bigger earthmoving companies get their machines X-ray’d from time to time as visual inspections don’t always work. Hopefully you can get it sorted soon 👍👍
Thankyou for sharing 👍🤠
That tile plow has been an awesome implement for sure. You can’t complain about the failure but the timing sucked.
Wow, a big beautiful mess, but it happened to professionals like you, so I know you'll make the best of it.💪 Good luck
So that’s why you put them relief cuts in.. you’re really taking these comment generators to a new level. I, for one, appreciate the level of dedication for keeping the viewer entertained. Bravo sir.
Lol you caught me 😁
Damn..... You took that one pretty well, respect for that ! Sure you have it figured but more meat above and below the pins to take a rib plate, rib plate above the lower pin, nice deep roots and preheat before welding to mitigate weld stress lines. For something designed and built in a shed by two blokes, that thing held up really well under very very hard conditions, all credit to you for it doing so well until this. Hope you can lash it together well enough to complete your obligations.
Really solid advice. Plus If I remember right they made it all from mild steel. Being that this whole thing was a Prototype. I think it performed awesome. I don't believe high strength steel would have broke like that. I still agree more meat below the bottom pin would be ideal. At least more than the thickness of the plate used. Good luck with the repairs.
@mattdixon8750 when I build tile plows I build them out of A36 or A572 steel depending on customer budget .
WOW...that took a lot of stress to break....sorry it happened....BUT....you took it well on camera.....you will get it fixed and it will be even better than before.....good video, good work
I'm sorry for your mishap and the loss of production but man this is gonna be a huge teachable moment. Anticipating you and Arron getting to the root of the failure and the path forward. Godspeed Mike.
I’ve been in the same business as you for 39 years so I know exactly what you are going through. Sorry it had to happen but you will get through it. It takes a lot to slow a good man down.
Damn Mike I am so sorry that has happened. But I'm confident you guys will get it fixed better than before.
Finally found the video showing the incident. I've seen the future so I know you get this figured out and come back stronger than ever. I'd have been pretty gutted seeing this "failure" without knowing what comes next. I really don't know why I feel so invested in the success of some guys that I've never met on the other side of the ocean but that plough has been absolutely outstanding. Props to you and Aaron for creating such a great piece of kit.
Hello from France friends, I am sorry for the incident on your plough, I wish you full of perseverance and courage for this repair, as a proverb says "one learns from one's mistakes" and I am sure that you would mate with your favorite welder all your knowledge and technique for a new realization stronger than rock. All my regards from France. Yours sincerely. Serge GONALONS
Ouch! That hurts! You have amazing attitude. Blessings
I'd be more stressed out not being able to help farmer Chris then the breakdown what was the importance of time restraints. I'm sure you'll get it fixed and wish you nothing but the best
Wow. That plow has been really good to you so at least the repair is a good investment.
For prototype 2.0 it held up to some incredible stress loads. Would be really cool to put load cells on that thing to see what the forces actually are. You guys got this. I am sure that stick welder is ready for a workout!
Looking back at the amount of tile this unit put in the ground, I suspect you are still way ahead of the game on this one. The next version should be a beast!
You are correct way ahead
@@DirtPerfect looking at the design, there's tons of pressure on the lower pin (origin of the break), maybe consider more plate below the bottom pin and run the diagonal support toward the lower pin rather than the way it is now. The tile plow series has been epic, and I look forward to the next revision! Bravo
Well that sure puts a damper on the day. But, in reality, failures in equipment, especially those under this type is to be expected. I am still extremely impressed by what this plow has endured. My compliments. Thanks for sharing.
The most truthful statement you have ever made on youtube.
As I recall what you said.
An owner operator wakes up in the morning planning to do some work and make some money to pay the bills, hoping something will be left over for them to pay the family bills. Reality shows up and changes everything inside out, upside down. Planning to take one step forward and end up taking two steps backward! Right on. You people not in the construction world this is the "real world". By the way this job, with out the youtube show money generated by the video, the job has become a money losing job, Dirt Perfect would have lost money on it, not good, but reality in the real world.
I think I communicated what Dirt Perfect was communicating.
Major bummer for sure DP! But, look how many miles of pipe you’ve plowed with it. That right there is a testament to the in-house quality that you and Aaron put into the build. It’s served you so well, now it’s time for the 2.0 version. Thanks for sharing DP.
Impressive attitude you have. I'd have been cursing a blue streak and still be going
That's repairable, most important thing to take away from this is you can see the weak point at the bottom of the lower pin, you need a bit more meat under that pin and the top plates need filleting to get a full thickness weld. In fact all the repairs will need filleting to get full thickness welds.
You and Aaron can do it 😉
It is repairable but look at the side plate further to the front. The paint show’s stretching of steel above the ripper frame. So unfortunately there will have to be a complete replacement redesign of the frame that boot mounts in. Yes a bandage could be put on it. But there’s signs of structural integrity of the rest now. Not anyone’s fault in the making of. We are have been down this road on at least ones with fab projects. Only hurts the pockets of cash that hurts the most.
@@kevink4914 quite right, Mk 2 should have a deeper section plate, not necessarily thicker, unfortunately the design left not a lot of material under the lower pin where the failure started ripping up to the next weakest point.
Wish you the best on getting it fixed. Hate to see a working man down, who is trying to make a living. Take care and be safe. ❤
Sorry about that Mike. I have no doubt you'll make it even better.
Well at least the plow has put alot of tile in and has been very reliable for you . I know Aaron will be able to fix and make it stronger than it was .
Tile Plow V2 - Now with added rock hammer! Seriously, she was and still is a very robust design, the proof is in the beating she took, be proud. It doesn't matter how well or tough something is, truth is unfortunately it will inevitably break and normally at the most inconvenient time. Can't wait to see the fix, oh and Aaron's face when you till him it's his fault lol
Man o Man, what a bummer. But I know you guys can fix it. It is great to have Aaron around. I think you snagged one boulder too many.
Ifeel real bad about this for you but probably nowhere as bad as you feel. But, it's great to see how positive you are in the face of a major setback. It's inspirational.
39:44 Excellent camera placement!
My heart goes out to you on this one.❤
Hello from Las Vegas Nevada
Every time you go thru the garage door with the machine, scare the heck out of me 😂
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Awesome video!
Sorry for the plow failure, but I agree with you in that "nobody got hurt."
I pray that the repairs will last you for a very long time.
I personally think that you, as well as Aaron, have done amazingly well with all your designs and fabrication (I hope I'm naming this part correctly).
Wishing you the best.
Peace.
Dang buddy this is why we can’t have anything nice lol😂 I know you will get it fixed better than ever thanks for sharing
You just wanted to make sure Aaron had some practice welding Lol. I'm sure you"ll build it back stronger good luck Dp.
Your attitude in the face of adversity is admirable.
It's unbelievable how you can keep such a good attitude..if that had happened to me I would have found a place to cry but you are Awesome DP...Aaron's comments are going to be priceless when he sees that plow though...
What a nightmare! Tough luck. Expecting MBTS to mention this at least once in each of the next 20 videos!😂😂
WOW! That's a bit of carnage. I've always been shocked that that thing could withstand the forces being exerted on it, but I thought the boot (a hollow tube) would be what snapped like a twig, not the ripper frame. Kudos to you for keeping your calm. I would have had to stop the video abruptly because of the 10-minute tirade of swear words that followed. 🤬🤬 Good video.
He probably did...
@@valdo345jr yeah he is good at editing 😁
Ouch, glad you were able to get all of the pieces home.
That mat you put down outside the garage to protect the concrete from damage from the track on the dozer looks almost like a conveyer belt from a coal mine. When I was growing up in WV guys would repurpose it for truck bed liners.
That’s crazy good luck on getting it fixed. Hope all goes well.
I thought yall had all of Chris’s fields finished! Good luck Mike running alone and crossing the road! Maybe you should cut a ditch with the excavator first! Might start checking the welds before you get started after that my friend! That’s a lot of stress on the plow! You got this Mike, what you have, works! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@34:36, there go's those stacks playin that special tune, that we all like.
Oh man ,,,bummer ,how the heck are you going to fix this?????😢Well I guess I'll find out,, Good Luck DP and friends.
Great attitude! You are encouraging to us who face other types or problems! Keep it up and thanks!
I suppose it was to much rock Mike, shocking how much force must have been to stretched and snap 3/4" hard steel like that, can't wait to see the damage report.
The crazy thing is the plow ripped miles of rock being pulled tandem with 850b or 210 without issue. Can’t wait to see the repair and upgrades
Captain kleeman your time to shine with your welding 😁 great video despite the misfortune. Keep on keeping on
Pretty impressive that it didn't happen sooner. You've put a whole lot of ponies on pulling that plow through the ground. Aaron has his work cut out on this one. Full pen welds take a while on stuff that thick.
😢 poor little tile plow ,big rock& a stump then pull so good. Next pull just started then so easy 😮 . But it was not her first time though the woods and across the yard back to the shop. Can not wait to hear what Aaron has to say about it😂
Man, if that had happened to me, I would have filled that whole farm field full of foul words.
it just shows how well that plow was designed from the beginning since it lasted so long. Ya'll are amazing!! I'm really looking forward to your 'fix' and know it will be better than the original. You handled that failure well, as with others I think a flow of superlatives that would cause would even make a sailor blush!!!!
Wow Dp that's impressive that road must have some major sized rocks in it to sheer that heavy plate like that and by the way is that still covered under the MBTS warranty
That plate didn't shear, it pulled apart under extreme tension........ the power that dozer is putting to the ground is phenomenal.
Sorry about that. It’s very impressive how you can maintain a positive outlook.
That tile plow has been through hell and back. It didn't break at any of Aaron's welds. I know y'all will get it fixed and now you can improve the design for better strength. By the way that plow has been awesome especially for the money invested into it.
I had a few of these happen. You and Aron will fix it and it will be better than ever. Good luck, I will keep watching.
What's it going to take to make u see that u need one big ripper to do the pre ripping. Before u put the tile plow on....yea it might work most of the time. But u wouldn't be so rough on it if ya done some preventive maintenance
I feel your pain. Being self employed has its good days and bad days and this day just took a dump. However, you and MBTS have the abilities to fix anything and no doubt, it’s already fixed.
Considering all the tile that you have installed and some of that while being pulled by another piece of equipment, there is no shame in that break. The timing couldn't be worse, but def no shame. I have no doubt that you guys will have it back to work in no time.and prob with a few design upgrades.
Why upgrade? It has worked great, and if you make it stronger, then next weakest point to break may be more catastrophic than you want.....especially to the wallet $$$! I'd say upgrade the expectations, know when to tag in your excavator partner, then tag back in with dozer when you're past the risky spot.
Thank you! All special thanks for handling adversity the way you did. And I’m guessing you’re getting whether we got last night or you got it this morning. From the mid Midwest.
I must say that the plow has put down a few miles of pipe before this. That says a lot for just how well you built it. Version 2 will be much stronger.
Mike you’ll bounce back stronger than before! With your drive and determination this is just another challenge for you! Hopefully everything works out! Thanks for sharing! Kevin
Crap happens, and I think all farmers know this. I'm sure that they understand.
Hopefully it is already repaired, considering the delay in posting videos.
Man I’m sorry that happened but it happens, I know a guy that has these for laying cable in the Texas panhandle, his plows take a beating, I like your outlook on this, no matter who builds anything, stuff will break down from time to time, it’s a given.
Either to have the patience of steel or awesome editing skills!👏 Either way I'm sorry it happened especially in the timing but it will give great content when you get it in the shop to get it fixed. I will certainly be watching!
I'm sorta glad that Arron wasn't with you on this day. Because we never would of heard the end of it. But I'm sure we still will.
There is no such thing as fail proof when dealing with the pressures your placing on such small stress points constantly, The green beast is too strong considering the amazing piece of kit you both made, (we all enjoyed the ride when you made the last one for sure)
Now how do you top your last outstanding effort i am wondering, Good luck and i love your channel to bits.👍👍👍👍👍
I think you found the stash of rocks they used to fill the trench for the previous drain pipe.
I'm thinking Gorilla glue not up to the task. Major bummer.
Boy, you sure have your hands full today, bad time that Aaron had to go into work his other job. Good video. See you on the next one.
aaron leaves for 1 job 🤦
You have a wonderful attitude I wish more people had the same way of looking at things 😀
Boy that really sucks! Hope you get a solution quickly.
Thank God it's only metal and most important your not injured and can plow another day. I know you can fix that plow Mike and Aaron will definitely be working dubble time to get you running again.
Micah I watched you build the top plow from beginning so proud of you having that top plow Aaron welding everything job on well and everything
Ouch, Sorry about your Breakage........ Good Luck with the rebuild.
Good morning DP ,Aaron and friends
God bless you, man. I stopped watching this video about 2 minutes before the failure and then when I tuned in for the next 1, I went, 'Wait...What?' It had been going so well!
Hope you were able to get those hydraulics without too much trouble.
Like to see Aarons face when you tell him and he sees it! Well same design just thicker plate? Backed with side plate opposed/vertical shark fins between pins? The fins may even help with twisting when turning!
Great view of the spoon from atop of the dozer cab. Clinton at c&c needs 2 spoons for his latest himit flat bed build just a suggestion lol
That's when bad things happen at the most unopportuned times.
That big rock did you in. I was feeling for you bro.👍
It shows how well that tile plow was designed! I am really looking forward to your fixing the tile plow and I know it will be better than the original, definitely looking forward to the next episode!
Wow! Looks like tanner needs to come down to do some welding for you Mike! 😂😂😂😂 That crazy. It Evan split the two shocks too.
Man, you guys worked so hard on that plow. As soon as MBTS goes out of town YOU break it😂😂😂. Love the fire extinguisher form C&C.
Even with al of the carnage and time pressures you are under you still bothered to bring us along with you! Thanks DP. I know you'll get it fixed.
Yes, i would be less patient with that camera if it happened to me. But its great content 😉😳
39:40 I thought us "people" were goner's lol Hope ya get it fixed soon! Poor Chris has to wait on Aaron now lol
Oh SH*T Mike. Considering how many MILES of tile this plow has put down it has held up very well. It sucks that it broke where it did.
Hey Mike, Sorry about the plow I'm confident you will recover. I wanted to say how much I enjoy hearing your Mack run. Very nice exhaust.
Definitely show's how much power the dozer has bud hi everyone from northwest Missouri ❤
It’s going to be a hell of a surprise when farmer Chris finds the price of a new plow added on his bill 😉!
Mike you have a great attitude. Too bad MBTS was not there to witness the catastrophic failure.
Great job great video. Enjoy watching the machines work. That is so awesome.👍
Mike I really enjoyed the original videos on the design/ build of the DP Plow… so I’m hoping you have time to film all the “RE” design/ “RE”build!
Sorry for your loss.... But as subscriber I do love the videos of you and Arron fixing stuff. Mixed emotions.
Thanks
Hello Mike. Like you, I would not have thought the plow would break. I am confident that it will not happen again. Have good days!
Sorry that happened Mike. You'll get it going better than before, guaranteed 👍
