OSMC gave new life to my old RPi 2. I use it for retro cartoons, 80s/90s shows, etc on my B&O CRT via composite. It's a real time travel :)

I have 2 osmc raspberries, one for living room and one for bedroom...
And i have media server with NFS (network file storage) and MariaDB (sql database)...
Something really cool happens when you make both kodis point to the same database.
I can stop a video in the living room and continue watching it the bedroom.
    That's my favorite feature :)
Edit: Forgot to mention. i've had this setup for 2 years now... and probably wont be changing it any time soon :)

Whats the video streaming like on the Pi? I just watched a video about the Pi4 and the video handling was trash. Screen tearing, lagging, temp spikes without a fan pointed at it.. Not good.

@@DrHappybone Thats a oneo f the problems with the pi 4, they rushed production, they say that later versions will have less of a problem, and this is running off of a pi 3, i imagine it doesnt do above 480 and if it does is probaly cause of the os managing resources

@@SourScotchOnTheRocks Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking of getting a Pi3 to make a Kodi box for the tv in the bedroom. I would only need 720 I think, 1080 would be nice but not demanded. Would a Pi3 be able to handle that?
I know theres the OpenELEC OS that can run on the pie but I don't want to sink money into a project that wont work. Any thoughts?

@@DrHappybone kodi on pi3 can handle 720p and 1080p no probs. Check prices though as a new pi4 with 2gb ram is only $35, which is around same price as a new pi3. Pi4 runs a version of kodi call libreelec, not osmc but it's pretty much same.

Doesn’t work well on the Pi 3, that’s why everyone is doing it for the Pi 4. Works way better on a minimum of two gig version. They stopped production of the one, but it’s still out there, get the two at least. I’ve played around with the Lineage version and it works well, I’m just having issues with my external keyboards not working great. They’re older so I broke down and spent $14 on a new one, just waiting for it to arrive.

"Libre ELEC" is the savior of all Raspberry Pis.
The OS is lightweight, highly reliable, and compatible with Pi4.
An OS that can allocate 640MB to the GPU memory of all Pis.
If you use "LibreELEC", you are not afraid of "video failure".

Hello guys, I've got a question for the community: I'm owner of a DeWalt radio (the dwst1), on the top it has a generous waterproof compartment were to store the power adapter and another compartment with an usb port and an aux input. I thought that I could easily intall in there a raspberry pi with a touch lcd screen and take advantage of the usb for power source and the aux for the audio (obviously) and with my 3d printer, create a nice cover to set everything tight and nice. Maybe then I could install an hdmi port and connect direct to the battery soket another port to connect a small monitor. Do you think that the idea is worth the money? Do I have to worry about temperatures? Any suggestion and opinion is greatly appreciated :3

I'm using a Pi Zero, it won't detect my keyboard. I can't control the interface at all. I also have a PC controller with a usb receiver. The receiver and controller do detect each other, but they don't connect properly. Any ideas?

Hi, i noticed you had an Amiga file there. I have OSMC on a RPi 3 and have just recently installed the Internet Archive Game Launcher addon. I can’t get my second controller to work at the moment though. It’s a PS3 controller and the other working one is Xbox one. The PS3 Con functions to scroll through Kodi itself but does not work during the emulation. I also have a bit of a stupid problem with getting retroarch to work as in its settings, I cannot find the appropriate directory paths it asks for. I can’t open it at the moment or addons that use it. The screen just goes black. I was thinking it must be because I haven’t inputted the appropriate location asks for. But I’m still learning my way around this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Benny Boy OMSC isn’t updated to work with 4 yet, according to some people it should be updated 2020 or 2021

Funny was trying to find with a google search best media player to create a "stand-alone" media player for travel and come across one of your old videos. Should have known if it was pi related you had covered it ETA 😂. If looking for new video idea would love to see an update especially now that we have m.2 drives for pi and you can get 4tb reasonably. I just ordered Pimoroni back for my Pi 5 plan for 4tb drive and 3d printer case if aftermarket doesnt catch up. Palm sized internet free media player for travel. 👍

I would think so. Most raspberry pi are backwards compatable, so yoou should still be able to run the OS

Help please! I have a WD Elements 2tb drive that works fine with a PC but the RPi 3+ will not mount this drive. The RPi 3+ will mount the WD 2tb Passport drive every time. I was thinking maybe it was a power issue, so I used a powered hub, but it would not let either drive to auto mount. Please help since my son wants me to build him one for his library.
I currently have a standalone RPi3+ running librelect to play videos in the RV for those rainy days (if we can get out ever again).

Is it a problem with the "SMB authentication protocol"?
Step 1 Set the SMB setting of "OSMC" to SMB1.
Step 2 Change the "Detailed sharing settings" of the PC from 128-bit encryption to 40-bit encryption.
Alternatively, port the data to a NAS with a low SMB authentication level.
