Nice idea! I’m planning this for my CRT and RGB-scart. My ultimate “time-machine” would be to boot RGB-pi for gaming and that you can switch to OSMC as well
I have 2 osmc raspberries, one for living room and one for bedroom... And i have media server with NFS (network file storage) and MariaDB (sql database)... Something really cool happens when you make both kodis point to the same database. I can stop a video in the living room and continue watching it the bedroom. That's my favorite feature :) Edit: Forgot to mention. i've had this setup for 2 years now... and probably wont be changing it any time soon :)
Whats the video streaming like on the Pi? I just watched a video about the Pi4 and the video handling was trash. Screen tearing, lagging, temp spikes without a fan pointed at it.. Not good.
@@DrHappybone Thats a oneo f the problems with the pi 4, they rushed production, they say that later versions will have less of a problem, and this is running off of a pi 3, i imagine it doesnt do above 480 and if it does is probaly cause of the os managing resources

Would a Pi3 be able to handle that? I know theres the OpenELEC OS that can run on the pie but I don't want to sink money into a project that wont work. Any thoughts?
@@DrHappybone kodi on pi3 can handle 720p and 1080p no probs. Check prices though as a new pi4 with 2gb ram is only $35, which is around same price as a new pi3. Pi4 runs a version of kodi call libreelec, not osmc but it's pretty much same.

Noob Ninja It is possible, though it’s buggy and not really optimized. There’s lineageOS 16 available for the rPI, and to get the full TV experience you can flash the TV gapps. But trust me I’ve tried it on my rPI 4b and it’s laggy af.
Doesn’t work well on the Pi 3, that’s why everyone is doing it for the Pi 4. Works way better on a minimum of two gig version. They stopped production of the one, but it’s still out there, get the two at least. I’ve played around with the Lineage version and it works well, I’m just having issues with my external keyboards not working great. They’re older so I broke down and spent $14 on a new one, just waiting for it to arrive.
Hi I know this is 4 years old but can you tell me how to get sound I can get it with Bluetooth but not the speaker jack but if i switch it to raspberry Pi os everything works with OSMC I have no sound and no wifi then I use the Kodi & LibreELEC I have no sound and cant find my external hard drive

yes, I run this on my pi in my car actually. OSMC as main OS and installed RetrOSMC, paired my extra PS4 controller on RetrOSMC and got a mini bluetooth keyboard for the OSMC part of the OS. I also got a SanDisk 128 GB USB with about 50 movies

I’ve followed this tutorial and still seem to be getting a rainbow screen when I boot up on my raspberry pi 4 4GB. I’m using the latest image for the 2/3/3+ but still get a rainbow screen. I’ve also tried 2 different SD cards but still having no luck 😓 any help would be appreciated

So I’ve had Kodi on everyone of my retropie builds and have used it for awhile now my question is I have a new setup and for some reason It will now play RUclips it keeps telling me that access is not configured I’ve never run into this issue before any suggestions
You should have mentioned at the beginning of the video to use a 'New' sd card or usb for this. I follwed the process using the sd card from my rasperberry pi which already has lots of content on it. It's downloading to it and I can't stop the process

What if your searching for a more TV OS interface with some PC functionality like Virtualbox to run Home Assistant server and Grafana. What OS should I use. Ofcourse, I will be using something that can handle more than a Pi does.
I take it apps like netflix and youtube have some sort of janky homebrew UI and not the official one you get with any roku/smart TV/DVD player/mobile device/etc. Is kodi and obmc the only game in town for the PI?
While this is amazingly great installation and configuration, I have to wonder why so much work and detail was put into this installer. If I were to guess, the answer would be found in the EULA, specifically where it reports on how the user uses the media center. Just a guess.
@@Stoppskylten yep, i switched to a shield tv. Plays just about any media i throw at it and also is a great retro machine. I have 2 raspberry pi 3 bs just sitting there because i stopped using them as a retro machine and a media player...
@@Beyondesp Shield does seem a nice box. But, like all things Android I guess that one will fall to OS updates being either too much for the hardware, or to little for most new apps. No cheap ways to anything forever working of course. I turned the old Pis to pure music streamers, security systems and watering guards. Always some things even the first ones can still be used for. :)
Hello guys, I've got a question for the community: I'm owner of a DeWalt radio (the dwst1), on the top it has a generous waterproof compartment were to store the power adapter and another compartment with an usb port and an aux input. I thought that I could easily intall in there a raspberry pi with a touch lcd screen and take advantage of the usb for power source and the aux for the audio (obviously) and with my 3d printer, create a nice cover to set everything tight and nice. Maybe then I could install an hdmi port and connect direct to the battery soket another port to connect a small monitor. Do you think that the idea is worth the money? Do I have to worry about temperatures? Any suggestion and opinion is greatly appreciated :3
I really dont get why would you recommend 2 or 3 over 3+ if this works the same in 2. You could have a preference if you are planning to do something that requires extra processing, if you don't it is just throwing money away.

Too bad 95% of the links create some type of error. I got the newest build, and every time I click something, gives me an error and tells me to check the log (which I have no idea where it is.)

I'm using a Pi Zero, it won't detect my keyboard. I can't control the interface at all. I also have a PC controller with a usb receiver. The receiver and controller do detect each other, but they don't connect properly. Any ideas?
Hi, i noticed you had an Amiga file there. I have OSMC on a RPi 3 and have just recently installed the Internet Archive Game Launcher addon. I can’t get my second controller to work at the moment though. It’s a PS3 controller and the other working one is Xbox one. The PS3 Con functions to scroll through Kodi itself but does not work during the emulation. I also have a bit of a stupid problem with getting retroarch to work as in its settings, I cannot find the appropriate directory paths it asks for. I can’t open it at the moment or addons that use it. The screen just goes black. I was thinking it must be because I haven’t inputted the appropriate location asks for. But I’m still learning my way around this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
Funny was trying to find with a google search best media player to create a "stand-alone" media player for travel and come across one of your old videos. Should have known if it was pi related you had covered it ETA 😂. If looking for new video idea would love to see an update especially now that we have m.2 drives for pi and you can get 4tb reasonably. I just ordered Pimoroni back for my Pi 5 plan for 4tb drive and 3d printer case if aftermarket doesnt catch up. Palm sized internet free media player for travel. 👍
Help please! I have a WD Elements 2tb drive that works fine with a PC but the RPi 3+ will not mount this drive. The RPi 3+ will mount the WD 2tb Passport drive every time. I was thinking maybe it was a power issue, so I used a powered hub, but it would not let either drive to auto mount. Please help since my son wants me to build him one for his library. I currently have a standalone RPi3+ running librelect to play videos in the RV for those rainy days (if we can get out ever again).
Is it a problem with the "SMB authentication protocol"? Step 1 Set the SMB setting of "OSMC" to SMB1. Step 2 Change the "Detailed sharing settings" of the PC from 128-bit encryption to 40-bit encryption. Alternatively, port the data to a NAS with a low SMB authentication level.
OSMC gave new life to my old RPi 2. I use it for retro cartoons, 80s/90s shows, etc on my B&O CRT via composite. It's a real time travel :)

I prefer to use a Rii keyboard/mc remote with Kodi as it handheld and RF and has dedicated buttons for media playback

So...OSMC is Debian based. Little known fact: you can install retropie on osmc for the raspberry pi.

Check your physical connectors first by either using a different cable or testing it with a different device.

this is pretty self explanatory… he clear says you are going to flash OSMC onto the SD card. Also pay attention at 4:32 to what he says.

When you have older tv you sont have youtube. And rpi may be connected to your tv all the time

Hopefully it has a decent web browser and torrent client or a way to download them now. Tried it a few years ago and it had neither at the time.

Have they improved osmc over libreelec? I had used libreelec for a while until i had a bunch of h.265 videos that the pi just couldnt play.
The hardware decoder just don't support some newer things. Heavy 265 is a some cases. 10bit video, just forget about it untill a new Pi revision.

How do you get the movies loaded on an external hard drive to show as a picture? They are all .m4v files and only show as a list of titles.

Benny Boy OMSC isn’t updated to work with 4 yet, according to some people it should be updated 2020 or 2021
Funny was trying to find with a google search best media player to create a "stand-alone" media player for travel and come across one of your old videos. Should have known if it was pi related you had covered it ETA 😂. If looking for new video idea would love to see an update especially now that we have m.2 drives for pi and you can get 4tb reasonably. I just ordered Pimoroni back for my Pi 5 plan for 4tb drive and 3d printer case if aftermarket doesnt catch up. Palm sized internet free media player for travel. 👍

I would think so. Most raspberry pi are backwards compatable, so yoou should still be able to run the OS
New version has WiFi a issue so you have to ssh to reinstall with WiFi pi3,4 all other OS has built in terminal so don’t need ssh
Help please! I have a WD Elements 2tb drive that works fine with a PC but the RPi 3+ will not mount this drive. The RPi 3+ will mount the WD 2tb Passport drive every time. I was thinking maybe it was a power issue, so I used a powered hub, but it would not let either drive to auto mount. Please help since my son wants me to build him one for his library.
I currently have a standalone RPi3+ running librelect to play videos in the RV for those rainy days (if we can get out ever again).
Is it a problem with the "SMB authentication protocol"?
Step 1 Set the SMB setting of "OSMC" to SMB1.
Step 2 Change the "Detailed sharing settings" of the PC from 128-bit encryption to 40-bit encryption.
Alternatively, port the data to a NAS with a low SMB authentication level.
