Great info, thanks for sharing. Back in the dark ages I extended my first set of clubs with oak dowels. Sanded a slight taper, epoxied and hammered in tight then sanded smooth to the shaft and cut to length. 30+ years later my youngest is wanting to take up golf and she's too tall for standard women's clubs. I knew there had to be a better way. Again, thanks for sharing.

This procedure is only advisable if the resulting increase in swing weight will work for you.
Depending on the golfer, some can be very sensitive to swing weight/club weight changes.
This is partly why it is best to go get fitted for clubs, and buy the right shafts in terms of weight and flex, and at the custom length that best suits the player, before buying the entire set of irons or wedges.
Testing different shafts in a simulator is still the best way to go.
It's also much easier in the long run to buy a slightly longer shaft, as they can always be chopped down to the correct size later on.

I asked you in the comments of a previous video about using 5 minute epoxy on the steel tips while installing a club head. I'll have to buy some 24 hour epoxy now. People are worried about the extensions softening the shaft flex. If anything the extesions would make the butt end stiffer due to the inserted piece. Also, the swing weight would make the butt end heavier which is a good thing if you watch the commercial for the secret grip. I still don't know what to do with all the left over center metal pieces. They are too short to use as alignment aids.

Masking tape , afew people asking if it interferes with epoxy. If the part of the extension that goes into the shaft is say 2" - cut or use 1/4 wide tape on the furthest part in and on the least furthest part in . Leaving the majority free of tape . The 1/4 wide bits will get you a tight centered fit and the epoxy will do the rest. Tried and tested. 👍

Question: If you put masking tape on the extension to make it fit tight...then it seems to me that in reality the only thing holding that extension in the golf club would be the gripping power of the masking tape's adhesive. The epoxy holding it in would only be attached to the outside of the masking tape...not to the extension itself. It seems to me that the extension could come lose from the masking tape...right or wrong?

What changes with the weighting of the club? I’ve always been told that when you order clubs to length from the manufacturer they do something to them to account for the length. I’m considering extending my clubs myself because they’re about an inch too short(standard length need +1”) and I know I could do it. I’m worried about the weight, I want them to be the same as if I ordered them from the manufacturer +1”. Is it as simple as just doing the extensions and I’m done?

I dont recommending using masking tape as a shim... someone used masking tape on an extension for a graphite shaft for me; the masking tape prevents the glue from bonding to the shaft, effectively making the connection as good as masking tape. It broke within a year and I pulled it out by hand. If perhaps it was used on the end only it might of worked.

Hi Mr McGolf. Hello from Cambridge, England. I love your workshop and your attention to detail. I’m going to extend some granite shaft so am waiting on plastic type extenders to arrive. I’d also like to extend a steel shafted putter. Just wondering if it’d be ok to use the same type of extender (I’ll have a few left). I get that steel extenders should be used for steel swing clubs but wondered if it’d be ok to break that rule for a putter. I assume that it’d be ok in terms of strength when playing but perhaps not in terms of differential expansion when left in a hot car. I’d appreciate your advice. Thanks, Keith

I prefer like for like however there are some graphite extension for longer extensions. Some would like you to think 4 to 6 inches is ok on a putter and make the extender that long. However, the torque the putter receives is not from the swing but from the standing on it and other abuses it takes. I do a bit longer say 2 inches on a putter. before adding lead tape take the putter out for a spin, you might just like it the

    Clipper Ships and Captains
by Rosemary and Stephen Vincent Benet
There was a time before our time,
    It will not come again,
When the best ships still were wooden ships
But the men were iron men.
    From Stonington to Kennebunk
    The Yankee hammers plied
To build the clippers of the wave
    That were New England's pride.
The "Flying Cloud," the "Northern Light,"
    The "Sovereign of the Seas"--
There was salt music in the blood
That thought of names like these.
"Sea Witch," "Red Jacket," "Golden Age,"
    And "Chariot of Fame,"
The whole world gaped to look at them
    Before the steamship came.
Their cargoes were of tea and gold,
    Their bows a cutting blade;
And, on the bridge, the skippers walked,
    Lords of the China trade.
The skippers with the little beards
    And the New England drawl,
Who knew Hong Kong and Marblehead
And the Pole Star over all.
Stately as churches, swift as gulls,
    They trod the oceans, then
No man had seen such ships before
    And none will see again.

    from ChipNRun
I have a set of backup SLDR irons which came with stock KBS C-Taper 90 Lite (a proprietary shaft similar to KBS Tour 90); This is .370 parallel tip, and flex is Regular.
The standard SLDR shaft length came with a 37.75" 5i, with half-inch shaft increments up and down the set. In fittings, I come out needing a 5i about 38.25" long. I tend to get hits toward toe on the SLDRs.
If I extend the SLDR shafts a half inch, what would be the best route to go for stability and playability?
    * Softstep the set, and not have to butt-trim anything. (And, the grips are still good)
    * Put a half-inch extension into all the shafts.
    What would your advice be?

    • @pikeevans8559
      @pikeevans8559 4 года назад

When you extend the length of the shaft....you change the lie position of the club head. It "might" cause you directional problems. It makes the toe of the club slightly higher than the heel. The more you extend it...the greater that distance becomes.
