wish this had been in the documentary, it was such a shame they didn't include any men's experiences with EDs. It was also good to hear from someone with atypical anorexia as we very rarely hear about it and there are a lot of misconceptions. I really hope you're happy and doing well!

Devastated that this didn’t make the documentary. I have never related to somebody’s experience more! So so so eloquent and insightful in his explanation. THANK YOU❤️

Yes! The part about eating 3 meals and snacks. People who don't have to go through refeeding have no idea how painful and uncomfortable physically and mentally it is.

For those still asking, this was filmed in the summer of 2017, with the documentary itself airing I believe in October 2018. It is me in the video, back when I was a University student.

I have a friend who was very thin at aged 18 and he said he didn’t know why because he said he ate a lot. I spent the weekend with him and saw what he ate and it was barely anything. In his mind because he wasn’t getting hungry he thought what he was eating was a lot but actually compared to what the body needs to gain weight he was under eating by a lot… these days aged 32 he has bulked up a lot and looks very good literally has the ideal body. A calerie proven diet is probably the ideal way to ensure under eaters eat enough and not their own judgement on what is a lot and what is not.

Big misconception: Everyone is emaciated. Weight loss is a symptom of the illness, not the illness itself.
No one becomes skeletal overnight. It can take years, meanwhile the person suffering exhibits the same behavior at every BMI.
In my experience no one took my illness seriously until my BMI got below 15 and it was so disheartening.
Binge eating disorder is the most common eating disorder. Within the anorexia diagnoses are two subtypes: Restrictive and Binge/Purge.
50% of all anorexic patients develop the binge/purge subtype at some point.

Why was this scene not included in the final cut ? I may be remembering incorrectly but I'm sure wheb it first aired there was a disclaimer about some people not being featured but I can't remember why

Why did the Dr say you can't diagnose osteoporosis until you are 35-40? I was diagnosed at 26

As someone who has an ED (I have Bulima) I do not anymore talk about weight/diets as it will trigger me...I've not weighed myself since 2019 as this causes my ED...Ive been dieting since i was 14 & stopped dieting/weighing myself at 34 (I'm almost 37)...So all in all, I've been dieting half my life.... As for the BMI, it's all Bull shit...Your weight doesn't define your health...x

I'm so glad the doctor said that we can't diagnosed him with osteoporosis cause I'm sick of hearing girl having anorexia for barely 2 years saying "I had osteoporosis, I had the bones of a 70 year old"... That's very unlikely, you had a reduction of bone density, but not osteoporosis, and no it's not after a few months that you're gonna get the bones of a 70 y/o

Most people with eating disorders aren't just not eating properly for months. This is something that affects people for years. My sister has early onset osteoporosis and she is 24 but has hidden her low food intake for almost ten years. Eating disorders cause real physical issues as an eating disorder is both mental and physical. It's not only in your mind but also manifests in the metabolism too.

I had my period once in my life and now Ive had anorexia for 3 and a half years. At my age that's severely reduced the amount of bone density that I had developed. So I don't have osteoporosis but I haven't reached near peak bone density. It's more complicated than a yes or no.

    • @anovemberstar

The Dr is gull of crap , ypu can be disgnised with osteoporosis under the age of 40. Also, Its different for women because of link between hormones and bone health - in women - low body fat = major drop in oestrogen = osteoporosis. Add to that, lack of periods (women post menopause are high risk of it), and reduced vitamin D /dairy content- yes, women can get osteoporosis at such earlier age.
