Kevin Clements “...and did he favor the peasants over the nobles...” I would say, overall Louis XVl did favor the peasants over the nobles because even though he heavily taxed the peasants to build the Palace of Versailles, in which he got all of Europe to venerate and mimic him, the nobles traumatized Louis XVl in the Fronde and he never forgot about that. He always held a grudge against the nobles and always made sure they had the least amount of power possible.
