The "Join servers for you" permission is used by Patreon for Discord benefits. Just yoinking the permission would jeopardize a lot of creators on Patreon, though that's not to say it's impossible for Discord to arrange something with Patreon like they did with Twitch.
@@littlecatking Because that someone may have a private server and not share any invites publicly. So the only way to join their server is through the bot integration.
I think the one good use for 'join servers for you' is as a reward tier in some services such as Patreon (which they do ask for this permission). However, I really think Discord needs to implement some sort of safeguard that informs the user if they leave then get auto re-added. Imagine leaving a server, getting re-added, but getting a prompt "We have detected you have left and are being re-added with . How would you like to proceed? [Re-Join] [Prevent Re-Joining] [Prevent Re-Joining & Remove ]" along with a "never ask again" button for those off chances where it is a good use. A simple confirmation for abuse is such an easy answer/solution to an otherwise shady scam. Discord probably assumes users know 'where Authorized Apps' is, but the fact is most users are... well, if they fell for the scam, do I need to say it? As someone who works in IT, users constantly surprise me at how unwilling they are to use their brains. Trying to think of a way to say this without flagging the algorithm.
Discord support is fast asleep with stuff like this, but as soon as you accidentally join a server as it's being raided they'll ban you and ignore all of your support tickets
One of my suggestions to improve Discord Bot's is, they have to verify once a month. If they dont verify within week of the start of the month, the discord bot will be taken down/unverified. This would eliminate the issue of bot developers losing their bots, and being sold on the discord bot black market, and turn into a scam bot
An idea to get around this is first make sure the user knows what bot brought them to the server and give an option to disable the application, next if a user keeps leaving a server only for an application to bring them right back perhaps another button/popup would be useful (also reporting the bot or something)
Thanks so much for this. I realized I had given access to a few of the bots shown in the video, but was never "jailed." I just went through and took out the sus bots and left bots that are used for discord server list that have the join servers for you permission alone
Solution: limit the amount of times a certain authorized app can pull a single user into a sever. Maybe the counter resets once a day or something. But this only delays the problem. Discord could also add a notification that a authorized app joined you to a server.
(9:00) honestly. its like the desk goose virus. some viruses steal information, hold your items hostage, or fry your computers. but the desktop goose gets INTENTIONALLY INSTALLED by people because its just a cute little goose thats programmed to harass you, but its cute.
I had a problem similar to this, I just went into the authorized applications tab in the discord settings and removed the sketchy bots It was seriously scary waking up to the server that you left 5 hours ago tho, I even made a ticket on support but as usual they didnt help out at all.
Discord should just either 1) make a flag system over all bot messages saying nitro (and deriv's like n1tr0) Or just ban same messages. Also to make that permission page to be more "dangerous looking" and to alarm more of "hey, if you don't know who sent this or know what you are doing, go back"
I think for the join Servers Permission you should need a approval, where you need a extreme good reason to get it. All Scam Bots won't be gone, but it would reduce the scams massively.
There is a solution - make it a privileged scope that requires approval from discord. There's already privileged intents, so it shouldn't be too hard to implement.
@dawn I'm talking about a full-on whitelist: the scope cannot be used whatsoever until you submit a ticket and are approved by discord, similar to the messages.read and the rpc[.**] scopes.
@@SquidScopes It depends on what you define as the problem. If the problem is malicious use of guilds.join, then requiring approval from Discord is a perfectly acceptable solution. If the problem is balancing the malicious use of guilds.join with the work of Discord's staff, then I'd still argue this is a good option. Why? Because there are so few use cases for guilds.join. It would amount to probably at most 10 requests per day.
A bot should need your express permission to join a server for you, the UI should make it clear that it's a bot doing it, and you should be able to revoke that particular permission at any time (including directly in the theoretical new approve/deny window for letting it add you to a server) and not see the prompt again unless you go into the Apps screen and reenable it.
i honestly did not know bots like that still exist and it was possible to get stuck in a server. thank you for telling us how to actually leave if it happens!
removing the join for seems to be the best option. In fact I don't know how it could be useful. If you want to join a server you definitively have your word to say in the process. Factually this could end to some extra steps option like : Establishing some manuals autorisations on the account like having a section with check/unchek to accept or not this option for any proposition. By the way a bot/application can ask me if I want to authorize it, but if I uncheck, by default it'll be unauthorized. It's the first modification to add. That lead to also add the possibility to edit the right you give to an application. When it display the panel with all access asked, you need to be able to uncheck that you don't want to have.

Yes, Discord should definitely just remove "Join servers for you" and also remove "direct message members" mainly because both are constantly being abused by scammers.
The Join Servers for You is also important for many Patreon-RUclips-Twitch users in the form of patreon/member only Discord. Many use it as a form of allowing their subs the opportunity to join the creator, others use it as like a tuition fee for classrooms like artists. I say Discord needs to have a verify feature that you want to join the server the bot is inviting you in. You're given yes and no, and below no is an option to "don't ask me again for this server" so that the bot can no longer try to get you to join.
Imagine waking up everyday knowing that you're a nuisance to everyone else. I really hope the bot and the server goes down. This is a really sucky thing to do.

No they don't need that permission in order to give you a role. I manually revoked the specific "join server" permission, and it will still give me a role if I manually join the server via an invite link.
To fix this: -Go to user settings -Go to authorized Applications -Remove any applications ( bots) that have the option "Joins servers for you" After that, leave the server. This should prevent the server to pop up again. Besides joining servers on your account, I believe whatever else these bots can do are harmless.
I really hope Discord doesn't take your idea of removing the joint servers for you permission, I use it with my website for anybody who purchases anything so they can get all the customer perks that are in my Discord server and make sure that they're in the server and they're not banned and blacklisted from purchasing. It makes it a lot easier to manage things if I can tell someone's band from the Discord server because they can't join and therefore they're not allowed to purchase whether that being somebody who leaked my assets, other people's assets, or something even worse.
Btw just for the people who dont know the bots are bought from devs that used to have verified bots they change the code and they make the bit so that it blends in with the authorization people dont know you can just aunothorize a similar way to do this is by joining a server and adding a bot to your acc that just invites to random servers and there baxkup incase other gets banned they use like maerya or a public source and they just slammed it on the bot
hey guys just a reminder that if you have a server saying to join servers for you it's quite normal. if the server you in that need you to give perms to join servers if they server gets raided the people can redirect you to the new one. only delete sketchy ones
But I am too scared to visit a server of a scammer. Who knows, what sort of 💩 can happen if you stay there. Don't know if that's true, but I've heard about viruses that can enter your PC by merely loading an image or even a file icon.
Hopefully they don’t remove the join servers scope, I use that on my site and it’s the only way to join my discord server since we are a whitelisted FiveM community :(
i love how no matter how sophisticated a scam gets, its core idea is that the target is stupid. its beyond funny how with even some slight scepticism it becomes so obvious
I was added into one of these servers, so i just went to the rules channel and did everything they told me not to do. Safe to say I was perma banned from that server soon enough.
Yeah that's the polite thing to do. You didn't wanna be there and they put you there, tit for tat. If people don't want people being assholes they won't force you into a server because the server is so shitty and full of assholes they HAVE to force joins coz no on would join of their own free will.
I think the permission “Join Servers for you” should stay, but with more restrictions. Like a mandatory popup that displays asking if you want to join the server, and if you have 2FA…and you press accept, requiring your 2FA code.
Trying to correct discord comments demostrates your own insecurities. When people write comments, grammar/spelling are not incredibly important to them, Instead, they focus on their message or point, Trying to point but grammar mistakes, while you clearly haven't passed 5th grade, is pretty entertaining for me. While I'm all for people using the correct forms of words, calling them out doesn't demonstrate intelligence, but rather shows the lack of purpose you have in your own life. You spend time on discord correcting people's grammar for no reason, other than attempting to fill the void left behind from the lack of attention you get. I would suggest debating people with ideas and counter-arguments, rather than pointing out trivial mistakes that have no effect on the overall message that the person is stating.
I once joined a server with the invite link "familyguy" for fun and when I left it kept joining me back in until I finally removed the bot from authorized apps. Yeah not a good idea to join random server invites and verify yourself with a bot there

No they don't need that permission in order to give you a role. I manually revoked the specific "join server" permission, and it will still give me a role if I manually join the server via an invite link.
To fix this:
-Go to user settings
-Go to authorized Applications
-Remove any applications ( bots) that have the option "Joins servers for you"
After that, leave the server. This should prevent the server to pop up again. Besides joining servers on your account, I believe whatever else these bots can do are harmless.
I wish I could see Abee's face watching this video 😂😂😂😂🤣

One way to get rid of this, and that is what you’re already doing and that is spreading awareness.
Hmm... Nice paragraph you got there. Whoopsies, do I detect a MINOR spelling mistake????? "JOINT"???? YOUR ANSWER IS NO LONGER VALID!!!!!

2:23 when will there be a bot that can buy me a "nice seafood dinner"?

We should all try to get on the server and just spam and tell people how to leave
But I am too scared to visit a server of a scammer. Who knows, what sort of 💩 can happen if you stay there.
Don't know if that's true, but I've heard about viruses that can enter your PC by merely loading an image or even a file icon.
@@robertwildschwein7207 it's fake, as long as you don't click any sketchy links, you'll be fine
do it via dms and ask them to do the same

Like a mandatory popup that displays asking if you want to join the server, and if you have 2FA…and you press accept, requiring your 2FA code.
nah you shouldnt need a 2FA code to join a server
2FA is excessive, but a simple confirmation message is a good idea
@@ME0WMERE Yeah, probably is excessive…maybe that option can be enabled/disabled depending on user preference…but yeah a confirmation would be nice.
@@malkat8914 Obviously not, I’m referring to bots joining servers for you.
4:17 can i get a copy and paste for that?
