    For those of us that live in places where we’re part of the food chain, gaters also provide an extra layer of protection from snake bites.

    • @dogdadoutdoors
      @dogdadoutdoors  Год назад

      Oh OK, thats a new one on me. We don't have any snakes that are dangerous to humans in the UK, the most poisonous we have are Adders and the biggest worry with them is smaller dogs, plus they are pretty good at keeping out our way. Do you get them made to be bite resistant then? I can see the protection they would offer.

    • @yorkshirecoastadventures1657
      @yorkshirecoastadventures1657 Год назад +1

      😂
      Nearly stepped on a Puff Adder in Zimbabwe and regular Adders in the UK. Dont think gaters would help,if they'd actually struck.

      @@yorkshirecoastadventures1657 Leather gaiters. I have some Meindl ones from Grüber in Germany. Expensive, of course, but easily repaired should anything ever break. I expect them to outlive me.

    Excellent for wet weather walking in muddy conditions. Or over heather, bracken or grass. Also keep you a lot warmer.
    I am apparently a " dirty walker". My trousers always got filthy, because of the way I walk.
    Useful to have for wet weather walking.

    Can't say I've really used full size gaiters before however I recently bought some trail running style (Dirty Girl but another brand) ones that velcro on the back of the show and hook to the very bottom of the laces. That in combo with waterproof trousers worked amazingly well. I had a line of clean to dirty on the side of the shoes by the end of the day

    HAHA what a stupid idea ......
    ... until I came back from a camping trip to the Scottish Highlands with midge and mosquito bites from my ankles to my knees.
    I didnt realise it until I came home but I had bites up my sleeves, and up my trouser legs, and dont give me any of that shit about "fire smoke scaring them away".
    Personally I used to think gaiters were a thing of the past until I went into deer country in Scotland.
    Drench them in repellent, and worse case scenario is that they stop ticks and biters climbing up your trouser legs.
    There is a reason that you can still buy them, and why the army still issues them.
    Great video btw

    Gaiters would make sense on short dog walks but on longer hikes I find they make my legs sweat,so end up with moist trousers. I do have abnormally sweaty legs though.

    I still have that dillema abt gaiters when hillwalking. in particularly wet weather I would take them. but when you do a long distance and many uphills, that add app weight to my kit, especially when they r not needed most of the distance.

    • @dogdadoutdoors
      @dogdadoutdoors  11 месяцев назад

      Ah they don't have a lower lace to hook into, do they? I see the snow monster look like they have a d-ring you could hook into but not all models do. I imagine they would probably still be OK, but you would need to make sure you had straps that went under the boot and make sure there were adjusted properly to stop them riding up, but I've not tried them with that particular brand.
