There such humble champions its very refreshing,I don't quite see enough of it in boxing these days hah, yeah I mean of course Koryan wanted to win for the record he is one of maybe like 3 people period to ever beat Joseph in either this championship or the monthly online tournament, they have played in Monthly tournament against each other I believe 4 times now or 3, with Joseph winning either 2 or 3,and Koryan winning 1, though it must be stated that was with not the same rng sequences so that is a factor as well a luck factor out of there control so to speak that isn't a factor here at the main annual event, but still I am sure Koryan was happy for Joseph and I mean even Koryan who was a grand master 2-3 years ago has improved tremendously, even just last year his biggest flaw was he seemed to go for big points as fast as possible then top out before kill screens, but now hes developed into a better more well rounded player himself and can basically 9 out of 10 times make it to level 29-30.
This just puts in a very stark relief how rare it is in sports/competitions that finalists under so much pressure can still be smiling and enjoying what they're doing. This is amazing.
This scene is SOOO WHOLESOME. Watching this after watching Smash is like drinking a bottle of cold fresh water in the middle of a desert. Absolutely refreshing and a joy to watch.
Me and my family: *Watches Joseph Vs. Jonas 2018 on TV* Me watching other Tetris matches: “Oh my gosh! A drought!” “Boom! Tetris for [INSERT NAME HERE]” “Ohhh!!!! He topped out!!”
Yeah I saw that, I thought to myself awww man why's he tearin up?? He's just a humble type of guy who wears his heart on his sleeve as they say. Just overwhelmed by the whole thing. People cheering for him and his family there. I've never had anyone cheer for me so I'd probably cry too! haha
This is so wholesome because of how much the competitors have fun, but also awesome at the same time because of how thrilling it is to watch those pieces fall
Here's why I think the Tetris community is the most pleasant of all esports... They're just happy that there are people who love this old game as much as they do. It's a yearly gathering of friends and respectful newcomers...and the competition is just a bonus. This is only possible in esports where the veterans can still hang with the new blood.
@@shush1329 There will never be unhealthy rivalry because the two players aren't truly playing against each other like in a fighting game. Playing with the same pieces means that you can never really blame the other person for your own loss, they just won fair and square every time

Tetris players always look like they're enjoying themselves while competing, comments on these videos are really lighthearted. Almost makes me wanna leave the toxicity that is the FGC and start playing tetris lol! Good match guys

6:06 I'm Japanese and I think 互角(hiragana: ごかく/gokaku) is equivalent to neck and neck. It literally means equal or even. By the way I found the existence of CTWC in 2018 and it's really amazing. Actually I kind of wanted Jonas to win but I enjoyed so much watching them play. Now I really love tetris. Thank you!
@@randomstuffs26 I know. But if you say 'kubi kubi' in front of a Japanese, they might think they are fired because 'kubi' sometimes means 'fire someone'. Language is surely interesting.
Genuinely, Joseph is one of my favourite competitors of any sport to watch. Not only is he amazing at his game, he's so gracious - when he tops out, I genuinely believe he's rooting his competitor on to win! Case in point 32:09
Why is this SO freaking engaging? I am so tense the entire time and my eyes can't leave the screen. Plus these guys (especially Joseph) are so charming and fun, man this is good
yeah, by the end of the fifth game i was screaming at the screen for each mistake they make lol (screaming as in the sense of feeling like your team is losing, not the wise guy "you should've done this" sense)

I'm so happy I got recommended this. Tetris like I've never seen before, just awesome! And that commentator in the blue shirt and tie has such a hearty voice, both are awesome commentators but he's my favourite of the two! *BOOM TETRIS* ✊😂
WHAT?!?! Alexey Pajitnov, the man who created this fabulous game, at the Tournament?! Wowwie wow wow, I am amazed! Without him, we wouldn't have Tetris! Thank you, Alexey!

Koryan was happy like he was Joseph's dad
Not to mention this is Koryan's first final
Space Alien he’s Asian American
Space Alien That I’m not sure about, it’s never really talked about.
35:55 Gonna need that J piece, unfortunately he gets the L instead
why was that such a perfect sentence
This just puts in a very stark relief how rare it is in sports/competitions that finalists under so much pressure can still be smiling and enjoying what they're doing. This is amazing.
I‘ve never thought tetris would have such a huge community. just discovered this few days ago. love it already
This scene is SOOO WHOLESOME. Watching this after watching Smash is like drinking a bottle of cold fresh water in the middle of a desert. Absolutely refreshing and a joy to watch.
I asume you mean super smash bros.
Dat boi 827 what else
@@dasenv i think he thought you mean watching tetris finals after smashing your gf
Really? What's not wholesome about baby's first fighter? Smash is practically for little children or ppl that can't play real fighting games.

“Oh my gosh! A drought!”
“Boom! Tetris for [INSERT NAME HERE]”
“Ohhh!!!! He topped out!!”
Joseph was crying at the beginning 😢
He was probably touched by the invitation of creator of Tetris.
Yeah I saw that, I thought to myself awww man why's he tearin up?? He's just a humble type of guy who wears his heart on his sleeve as they say. Just overwhelmed by the whole thing. People cheering for him and his family there. I've never had anyone cheer for me so I'd probably cry too! haha

Joseph at 3:00 : crying because of RNG.

Nobody is saying that

Here's why I think the Tetris community is the most pleasant of all esports...
They're just happy that there are people who love this old game as much as they do. It's a yearly gathering of friends and respectful newcomers...and the competition is just a bonus.
This is only possible in esports where the veterans can still hang with the new blood.
Maybe with the new blood being so competitive we will start seeing some unhealthy rivalry
@@shush1329 There will never be unhealthy rivalry because the two players aren't truly playing against each other like in a fighting game. Playing with the same pieces means that you can never really blame the other person for your own loss, they just won fair and square every time
@@compulsoryevacuationdevice Haha, fair and "square". How fitting!
couldnt help but laugh when he started crying 😄 he thought he wasnt gonna cry this time, but he got like 4 words in and bust out in tears lol its so wholesome, i love it.
Tetris players always look like they're enjoying themselves while competing, comments on these videos are really lighthearted.
Almost makes me wanna leave the toxicity that is the FGC and start playing tetris lol! Good match guys
Same thoughts here. I always thought that the whole gaming community in general is absolute cancer toxicity until i discovered competitive tetris community.
Thats why i play trackmania for 10years. Community is key in every game :D
i wish i could get classic tetris without having to order an old nes on ebay. i was so mad that the classic mini nes didn't include tetris. i have a ps3 and ps4 and have no desire to play stupid games like tetris effect, i want the classic version. would be nice if they included the vlassic version on these silly modern tetris games.
@@Jack_80 Emulator. It works great. You can even plug in a controller if you want to compete at a higher level.
@@Jack_80 I recommend Mesen 0.93 as an emulator, worked brilliantly for me as I only have PAL NES at home!

Welcome to the Tetris Community. I found this tournament when RUclips recommended the 2016 CTWC Finals, I still don't know why it was recommended. If you haven't yet, I recommend watching the explanation video by aGameScout on this link: ruclips.net/video/9RaqVGzhQTM/видео.html or you can find the video at thectwc.com.

Thank you!

Plus these guys (especially Joseph) are so charming and fun, man this is good
yeah, by the end of the fifth game i was screaming at the screen for each mistake they make lol
(screaming as in the sense of feeling like your team is losing, not the wise guy "you should've done this" sense)
Tetris is a great game!
