Thanks for the book recommendations on Arminian theology. I like to study different theological perspectives but not locked into any one theological system. This can help understand Classical Arminian theology. I have noticed that Calvinist tend to misrepresent Arminian theology as what they say is Arminian is actually more Finnyism. Most churches in America anyway tend to lean Arminian without knowing it. I did tend to lean more Calvinistic because there is more theological material out on that system but the philosophy within the system I started to question as unbiblical and also looked more at the known Calvinistic verses in context that it was not what the scriptures mean in context that your reading yoru presuppositions back into the text. But there is a tremendous amount of Calvinistic material out there in why I think we are seeing a resurgence of Calvinism. Wonder why that is? Is it Calvinism is more of a developed theological system than say Arminianism or any other theological system? But glad to learn what true Arminian theology teaches so I can point out to Calvinist where they are wrong in misrepresenting Arminian theology.

@Arminius One thing i will ask you : Do you believe you are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone .Or do you believe you play a part in your salvation .Do you believe it's a co working between you and Christ .So it wouldn't be Christ alone ,it's a venture between you and Christ .Read Galatians over again, the jews then said you were saved by faith plus you had to be circumcised .The arminian theory says it's faith plus you have to agree and then later if you fall into sin you can lose your salvation .That my friend is a "Works" based salvation .These people Paul said are cut off from salvation and are "accursed" .You would be in the same classification as the Catholic church ,the Jehovah"s witness and all the other faith plus works denominations .
What about the Lutherans, Eastern Orthodox, and Traditional Southern Baptists aka nowadays as Provisionists because it’s not limited to Southern Baptists. Calvinism and Arminianism are NOT the only Christian soteriological views based on the Bible. Eastern Orthodox and Provisionist soteriology are more in line with the views of the early church fathers before Augustine.
Great question! Thanks for posting. I chose Arminianism and Calvinism for the topic of this video because that's where the debate usually happens and that's the debate I usually find myself in. With regard to Southern Baptists, I've not run into the "Provisionist" label yet. I will say that Baptists who reject unconditional election and limited atonement and affirm the perseverance of the saints are rightly labeled as Classical Arminians, though many of them would be resistant to the term because it's so often misconstrued as Pelagian. Roger Olsen, whose book I mention in the video, is a great example of an Arminian Baptist. With regard to Lutheran soteriology, I just took a quick look at the LCMS doctrinal statement and I think an Arminian could probably sign off on that in good conscience. As I say, it was a quick read, so if I'm missing something, let me know. Thanks for your comment. Feel free to follow up or share some resources that shed light on these issues.

The Lutheran view of the atonement is slightly different than the Arminian view, particularly with their universal atonement sub-doctrines of objective justification and subjective justification. I can write later and explain that. It might take some time. In my opinion, the Lutherans have thought deeply about the atonement better than all of the other views. As for the Provisionist, it’s a brand new title for the Traditional Southern Baptist view. Some of the leaders of today, such as Leighton Flowers, Braxton Hunter, Adam Hardwood, and David Allen, have changed the label recently because it’s growing outside of the Baptist group. It’s similar to the Eastern Orthodox view that appeals to the early church before Augustine. They view original sin as a slant toward sin (everyone will sin) and not Adam’s imputed guilt, just as the early church fathers believed. They also don’t believe in the Arminian view of prevenient grace, persay, but they believe all of the revelation God has provided (natural revelation, the Bible, preaching, conviction of the Holy Spirit, etc) is a prevenient grace from God that enables a person to respond. This aligns with Paul’s teaching in Romans 1 that no one has an excuse for unbelief because God has sufficiently revealed himself. They believe it total depravity but not the total inability of Calvinists and Arminians.

What's the arminian view of passages like Romans 8:28-30, Romans 9:17-24, Ephesians 2:1-10? How are those passages resolved with man's free agency? Also is there a particular passage that arminians claim actually teaches God's choosing not to violate God's free will?

I have studied both theories over the years and what it boils down to is this :are we in control or is God in control .Is it Grace plus our cooperation with God equals salvation or is it Grace alone .The arminian theology is very unstable ,you can chose God one moment and disown him the next .There is no assurance of salvation .Its a works based salvation .Your sins can cause you to fall from grace ? Really ?That is not grace ! If i gave you a gift and later in the day you insulted me and i took the gift back that would not be a gift anymore would it .A gift depends on nothing ,thats why they call it Grace !

Any systematic doctrines created by men is bound to be influenced by their 'total depravity' according to Calvinism. I believe it is the epitome of arrogance that some theologians believe man can actually put God's Will into a man made system! His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not ours. I rest my case. I can easily trust God with all of it because He has given me a capacity for mystery.
Truly no one can straddle the fence on this issue. Either you believe that God ALONE saves or you believe that God needs men to cooperate with Him in their salvation. In all ways I see very little difference between arminianism and catholicism. An arminian has something to boast of. A Calvinist is in awe of the fact that God would choose a wretched sinner like himself. Romans 3 is ever so clear: "No one understands. No one seeks after God." God would have been just to have chosen no one but in His grace and love He has chosen some to be saved. Jesus went up on that cross knowing exactly who He was dying for. Please read Romans 9:20 again.

To me election and predestination are looking at salvation through God’s eyes, and He is not bound by space or time, so it is all of time is started and finished from the foundation of the world. The moment God thought it it was already complete. But from our perspective in time and space we are making choices and acting on them. God knows those that are His because He knows all things inherently. Both realities are true because they are two different sides of the same coin. Neither Calvinism or Arminianism is correct. Though from our perspective Arminianism is the reality we live in, which is space and time.
John 1:13 ..........children born not of natural decent ,nor of human decision or a husbands will ,but born of God .This scripture clearly stands out to show it is not your "decision " to chose Christ but Christ chooses you .How did you contribute to your birth ? You did not ! That why Jesus used the analogy "you must be born again " .You also notice as you read down in John ,Jesus did not give you any steps on how to be "born again ".John 6:63 the Spirit gives life, the flesh counts for nothing .There is nothing you can do to be born again .People are born again by the proclamation of the Word and the quickening of the Spirit ! And that is the power of God !!!

Classical Arminian theology doesn't teach that. Grace comes through the preaching of the gospel.

The book Prevenient Grace by W. Brian Shelton gives the biblical basis for Prevenient Grace.
