  • The Snæfellness Peninsular is often nicknamed ‘Iceland in Miniature’. This ride around the peninsular gives you much of what Iceland offers in two stages. You will see volcanos, glaciers, lava fields, villages, lakes, waterfalls, beaches, the ocean, cliffs, and mountains. It is a loop with jaw-dropping scenery on a road with very few cars. The ride starts and ends at the iconic ‘Kirkufjell’, probably the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Without long and steep climbs this loop is a relatively easy multi-stage ride. Few rides around the world offer such variety and beauty. We rate this ride as a virtual bucket-list ride, a ride that one should do at least once virtually in one's lifetime.
Stage one features an extremely beautiful coastline with beaches and wonderful seascapes. Along the road, you also get to enjoy beautiful views of the glacier-covered Snæfellsjökull volcano and its surrounding lava fields.
In this ride-along video, you ride at the speed of a very fit cyclist. If you want to ride at your own speed, please look below for how you can make that possible with our indoor cycling app Open Road.

Take your indoor cycling to the next level with our indoor cycling app Open Road:
Dive into an immersive indoor cycling experience with our training app ’Open Road’ for Windows. The app transforms your effort into speed and lets you ride the ride as if it were a real outdoor ride. With the app, you get a better and more realistic indoor cycling experience compared to our ride-along videos on RUclips. The app is compatible with all ANT+ cycling devices, including smart trainers, power meters, and speed sensors. Athletes with spinning and exercise bikes without ANT+ compatibility can control the speed manually and enjoy riding with all the important cycling data such as altitude, distance, speed, heart rate, etc. displayed during the training session.

    Just add music:
Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is outstanding. But with music, opinions are very mixed. So we have added no music. Instead, we recommend adding your favorite music to the ride. It is quite simple. Mute RUclips and open a browser window. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, RUclips, etc.) pick the music you like, and enjoy the ride... We have left the original sound of the ride out. This is because the noise from passing cars, vibrations from the road, wind, and the rider's breathing drowns the natural sound of the surroundings.

Watching this I realized something. I've never been to Iceland, but I've seen a lot of pictures and videos - and I don't think I've ever seen a tree. Not a single one.

Was there two weeks ago and climbed Mt. Kirkfujell, but no time to cycle and the wind and weather would be daunting! Thanks for letting me do it from the comfort of my exercise bike!

Love love love your videos! They help me stay on my bike longer! Thank you for adding some Iceland in the mix! It's easier to ride on my stationary bike than it would be to ride there! The wind has the potential to blow you right off your bike! Maybe let us know what time of year you shoot these videos in these great locations. That way I can plan my trips accordingly. Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much for your contribution. Much appreciated. And glad the videos are helping you to stay longer on the bike. And yes, the wind is quite harsh on Iceland, so we are extremely happy we can make these 'out of this world' rides available virtually. This rides was filmed in July ;-)

The only scary part of riding your bike on this road is if you get a mechanical break down!…. Only God can help you then

That is why we rate it a virtual bucket list ride. Doing it for real requires some remote bike touring experience.
